Toslink issues

Sun, 09/08/2013 - 09:18
I have a Premiere XL connected to an older Sony rear projection TV (KDS 60A2000) via HDMI which has worked pretty well.

I just purchased a Zvox sound bar for my TV. My Sony TV won't pass through the digital sound from my Tivo (a design limitation of the TV), so I have connected my Tivo directly to my new soundbar via a Toslink optical cable.

Usually it works fine. But sometimes I lose the sound. After a while - many minutes - it usually comes back. Troubleshooting is difficult since the problem is intermittent, but it seems to be an issue with the Tivo's toslink output, that does not affect the HDMI audio signal.

Anyone know of unresolved problems with the toslink output of a Tivo Premiere? What would the recommended audio setting on the tivo - Dolby or PCM audio?

Roamio Plus/Pro Streaming Issues - Overheating?

Sun, 09/08/2013 - 09:06
Is anybody else experiencing issues streaming video from the Roamio?

I keep getting the overheating message. Or it can't connect or find my stream device. I never had this issue with my in elite box and stream device.

Strange Season Pass behavior

Sun, 09/08/2013 - 09:04
Just tried to set up a season pass from the guide on my Roamio, set it up then notice that it was set for my Tivo Elite. Went back to guide and set up another season pass and it defaulted to the Elite. Had to start a recorded show from the Roamio then quit the recording, went back to guide and the season pass defaulted to the Roamio tivo now. Any one seeing this problem?

Update: I have 5 Tivo's on my home network, seems season passes will default on the last Tivo I streamed from. Don't remember doing this before the Roamio (but I've slept since then:).

The installation from helllllll

Sun, 09/08/2013 - 07:47
Everything that could go wrong seemed to go wrong. Whether it's a bad card or bad Roamio or both remains to be seen. But I chatted or phoned with TiVo and Verizon for hours and hours over a 2 day period. Verizon is sending a new card and TiVo is sending a new Roamio. I don't fault anyone, ***** happens.

My question which I hope to get a quick answer - I need to disconnect my Roamio and reconnect my Premiere until the new stuff arrives. I have a new cable card from Verizon which was paired to the Roamio and told them the older one was no longer being used. Do you think it's still okay to use the old one in my Premiere without any setup problems? The thought of having to contact Verizon or TiVo again is bringing me nightmares as I type this. -)

Btw, I do find Verizon chat to be infinitely better and more efficient than calling. Though, they have their issues too. The chat all seems to come from India (I've had about 5 chats) and I give them credit... they're not like the stereotypes you hear about that give you subpar assistance and there is no language barrier since it's a computer chat.

Roamio Interface Color Scheme - YUCK!

Sun, 09/08/2013 - 07:37
I haven't seen anyone else mention the change in the color scheme of the TiVo screens on the Roamios. The Yellow highlight bar is atrocious and way too glaringly bright. It's driving me crazy. I'm Ok with the other changes, but that yellow bar has got to go.

Am I the only one that prefers the old color scheme? It seemed cleaner and much classier.

Tuning issues

Sun, 09/08/2013 - 07:17
Several people who have purchased Roamios are have tuning issues. Some are previous Premier XL4 owners who state they also had tuning issues on their Premier. I thought we should take a poll of Premier owners.

relace xl4 with roamio vs. buy mini

Sun, 09/08/2013 - 07:14
im wondering if i should sell my xl4 with lifetime and buy a base roamio with lifetime or keep my xl4 and buy a mini with lifetime. It seems to me the costs of either would be about the same. Around $300. Im having a hard time justifying the cost either way but will either option be cheaper if i hold out for a sale? I worry the longer i wait the less value my xl4 has. My situation is as follows:
I have a tv in a second room currently connected with a 30 ft. Hdmi cable to my xl4. i am able to use my slide remote reasonably well from this other room. I live alone so im not bothered by the fact that i cant watch two different things simultaneously from both rooms - A conviance buying a mini for my second room would provide. The main reason i would buy a mini to go with my xl4 is to get faster apps\menus in second room. The problem with this solution is my main living room would be stuck with slow premier. Does anyone know is youtube app much better with roamio? That is only app i really use from main room.
Alternative is to sell my xl4 and buy base roamio (i dont care about streaming) and continue to mirror my living room tivo to 2nd room and avoid buying a mini. I will loose moca ability that my xl4 has if i do this but Im not currently using moca anyway. Im running Ethernet. If i do decide to keep my xl4 and buy minis and go moca i know the xl4 can serve as a bridge to other network devices. Can the minis also do this? The only thing base roamio seems to be lacking for me is analog audio. In my main tivo room i currently use component video and composite audio out to a 3rd sony crt hdtv. With base roamio are there breakout cables for component and composite? What would they cost? If i decide to replace my xl4 with roamio basic instead of buying a mini for my second room, it occurs to me instead of buying breakout cables for my 3rd crt tv i can buy a powered hdmi switch with 3 hdmi outs since my third sony tv has a dvi input. unfortunantly dvi means id have to use a hdmi/dvi cable which means no audio out of sony crt speakers but i guess i can still buy just the composite break away cables for that? Having a powered hdmi splitter has another advantage because currently im hotswapping my hdmi port on xl4 everytime i switch from Plasma for bedroom or projector for living room. Anyone know the price of a 1 in 3 out hdmi switch. lastly Ive heard picture quality complaints on both mini and roamio compared to premier and wonder if i should consider this in my decision..

Lips out of sync with sound/ plus romio

Sun, 09/08/2013 - 05:51
Hello,

I have a roamio plus and this is my first TiVo. I like the UI a lot and it has a lot of cool features and hope to replace my sling box as the out of home streaming comes to fruition. I have cox and TiVo currently goes straight to Sony xbr TV through hdmi no receiver or any pass through devices. All channels have a slight but noticeable lip to sound sync issue maybe 1/4 to half a second difference. Anyone else have these issues or can help me? Using no tuning adapter and cox here in Vegas is as of last month starting Sdv or whatever converting analog to digital. Anyhow all comments appreciated.

Thanks,
-Mike

Series 2 with Premier XL4?

Sun, 09/08/2013 - 00:53
I'm waiting on a cable card to arrive so I don't actually have my Premier XL4 up and running yet... So some of this may become obvious once I do have it up.

With that in mind, the other day I was at the local Goodwill Computer center and noticed a Series 2 TiVo they had for $5. I figured I couldn't go wrong for $5 and got it. I'm able to power it up and it looks like it works (using the remote from the XL4).

So now, after the fact, I'm curious. What, if anything, can I do with the Series 2 to "enhance my experience" with the XL4? I do have a SD TV in the spare bedroom that I could connect it to. Could I use it to watch stuff from the XL4 somehow? If so, would I be able to always record in HD on the XL4 and still be able to watch it in SD (If I chose to).

Thanks in advance for answering these newbish questions!

Matt

P.S. If it matters I'm asking in the Premier forum because no matter what I can do with the Series 2, I don't have any intention of recording in SD on it. I plan to have the XL4 be the center of any "media network" that I set up.

POE filter kills my MOCA

Sat, 09/07/2013 - 22:55
Hi.

I just got a Roamio and Moca adapter and POE filter from TiVo.

I cannot get the Moca working when I use my POE filter. I'm on Cox cable.

I've plugged the POE in multiple places with no luck. I know it's supposed to go on where the cable comes out of my wall.

Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how did you fix it?

I wrote TiVo and all they said is that I MUST use the POE for security and increased Moca speeds.

FYI my wireless connection seems FASTER than my Moca connection.

Help?

Thanks.

Video Capture

Sat, 09/07/2013 - 21:50
Since I have TWC and there are certain things I can't transfer, I have been looking at other options, the best of which right now is my old series 2 which over the years has degraded in image. Most of the things I want to transfer and keep are streamed, so I found video capture software and got a free trial but when I run it, the memory required makes the images...not great. Maybe if I try to plug right into the router I'll have better luck, but in the meantime I thought I'd ask if there are some reasonable capture cards or devices (under $100, and maybe way under if possible) that anyone can recommend for a laptop. Thanks for the help.

Roamio and Cox Cable

Sat, 09/07/2013 - 21:18
Has anyone had any luck getting the new Roamio to work using a Cable Card from Cox Cable? We've gotten 3 different cards from them since Thursday and none work. Spent many, many hours on the phone with their technicians. Still can't use our new Roamio! Very sad that I may have to send it back. I hate COX Communications! I love Tivo and have had one since 2003. If I can't get this to work I guess I'll have to switch over to Direct TV because I refuse to give another penny to Cox and I certainly won't spend more money on their ridiculous DVR system! Any advice?

Copy to ipad & stream outside home with TWC???

Sat, 09/07/2013 - 20:56
Any Time Warner clients out there that confirm you're able to copy shows to your ipad & stream inside and outside your home with TWC, specifically maybe Oceanic Time Warner? I'm just unboxing my Pro now and haven't tested yet.

On a side note of weirdness, I noticed the tape on top was already slit across the top but not the sides, so the box was still sort of sealed. When I was taking everything out I noticed "hey this remote reminds of the one that came with the premiere and minis I took back a few months ago, especially since it has those weird slit lines diagonally from each button if you look close enough in the light". Then I looked at the remote's picture on the box and then online and realized, "damn, they sent the wrong remote (or because tape was split, someone swapped it out!)!!!" I immediately called Best Buy and they are opening a brand new pro just to get the correct remote out, and are shipping it to me. Now THAT is good customer service!!!

If possible, please let me know your TWC copy and streaming experiences ASAP, thanks!

PS - Well of course no one can stream outside home yet as its not activated, so share in home if you can.

Mini taking long to download info.

Sat, 09/07/2013 - 20:54
Setting up a Roamio and Mini combo.

Concerned about the old RG59 and splitters being good enough for MOCA.

So the set up poster for the Mini says to go to your Premiere tivo and allow video sharing under settings, cable card and device menu.

Well there is no such menu item on my Roamio Plus.

The poster doesn't mention it but the Roamio has menu under network settings to create MOCA network so I activated that.

Then I tried selecting the MOCA Option on the Mini and after a few minutes, it asked how the IP address should be set, obtain from DHCP or manually set.

Taking this as a sign that MOCA is working I select dhcp and then it starts to download info but it took about 5 minutes, longer than the Roamio did the first time.

Maybe this means the throughput over MOCA is poor? Should I be concerned about poor streaming from the Roamio?

Now installing but also taking long. Presumably there's no network activity so maybe it's just device speed?

Hey y'all...

I made a YouTube video to better show off my issue. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance...

pyTivo w/ Roamio Plus

Sat, 09/07/2013 - 20:21
Howdy-

I'm trying to get pyTivo to play with my Plus, but for some reason it's trying to connect to the "stream" IP address rather than the regular IP address.

Here's what I see in the log when I first start up pyTivo:

Quote: Unable to Connect to TiVo

pyTivo was unable to connect to the TiVo at 192.168.1.109.

This is most likely caused by an incorrect Media Access Key. Please return to the Settings page and double check your tivo_mak setting. My MAK is correct as I am able to access my two Tivo HDs without any problems, and I can login to the "regular" IP (192.168.1.108) with the MAK.

Any ideas?

Running wmcbrine's branch from 8/15 on Mac OS X 10.8.4, if it matters.

install ftp server on tivo box

Sat, 09/07/2013 - 19:28
i have the series 4 tivo and i would like to install an ftp server so i can bypass tivo's own crappy downloader

i suspect tivo's downloader is to blame for the server crashing when ever it tries to download a show that is on a bad sector.

or is there a way to reboot the internal server without rebooting the box?

video pc to tivo

Sat, 09/07/2013 - 17:43
In the past downloaded TiVo recordings to my pc using TiVo desktop, because wanted to put on dvd. I needed to clear more space on TiVo and did not want to watch them right away.

I now have more space on TiVo and want to watch them on large screen tv, not on a small pc screen. I will have to upgrade to new TiVo desktop but wanted assurances I could copy videos to my TiVo.

Not sure about conversion formats but used defaults with Direct Show Dump.
Wanted to know before upgraded.
