My Configuration (MoCA, TA, POE, Roamio Pro, Mini)

Tue, 01/14/2014 - 07:28
One of the main advantages of my new TiVo equipment is that is provides a whole house solution via the coaxial cable without requiring me to re-wire to my home with Cat 6 ethernet cable. So, having TiVo Mini's connected over coax via Roamio Pro's built-in MoCA network is of great value to me. However, there were no configuration diagrams for how to connect this (mainstream?) configuration. Also, there were no instructions as to how to connect a Tuning Adaptor coexisting with a MoCA network. An additional (2-GHz rated) splitter is required. If you use a 1-GHz splitter your signal levels could be severely attenuated (it will depend on the characteristics of the splitter).

Here's my working configuration (see attached pdf ... a picture is worth a thousand words). I hope this helps you get your set up working in less time than it took me! You may have a different configuration, so you may need to alter to fit your specific situation.

My configuration includes the following elements:
Cable Feed with MoCA POE filter
Cable Modem for internet
Router
E-switch
TiVo Roamio Pro configured to provide MoCA network over coax
TiVo Mini connected via a MoCA network over coax
Tuning Adaptor (TA)
One 2-way (1 GHz) splitter for CATV and cable modem
One 2-way (2 GHz) splitter (connects TA, Roamio, and Mini's via coax)
One 3-way (2 GHz) splitter for up to 3 Mini's via coax MoCA network
An additional MoCA POE filter to optimize MoCA network

My configuration has the following benefits:

1) Provides highest signal strength and SNR to CATV signals and Cable Internet Modem.

2) Isolates and optimizes MoCA network. If there are issues with your cable provider, this isolation makes trouble shooting (and potential finger pointing) much easier.

Hulu Plus Issues Tivo Roamio

Tue, 01/14/2014 - 07:21
Hello...When going to Hulu Plus on my Roamio Plus, "Browse Movies" or Browse TV", I get 0 results in the menu. 0 TV shows, Episodes etc. In Movies the only result I get is "Trailers". The rest of the Hulu app works fine. Search, Queue, etc... I just get 0 results in TV and Movies, except for trailers in the movies I do get results.

My Roku 3 has a different app than Tivo and works fine. I do get results in those menu's on my Roku.

Have been back and forth with Hulu and Tivo support on this issue. Is anyone else getting the same results in the Hulu app?

Thanks!

How I Met Your Mother - OAD 01/13/2014 - Slapsgiving 3: Slappointment in Slapmarra

Tue, 01/14/2014 - 06:37
This was such a random episode in the middle of the wedding episodes, and I actually enjoyed the break.

It got a few chuckles out of me, including the slapping tree and the slow 10-15 minute death of 'The Calligrapher' as he would say a last line and then have nothing to do for the next 14 minutes.

And we still have 1 more slap to go. Nice.

The Boyz II Men cameo was a little weird though, but I did like Jason's introduction "Ladies and gentlemen, Boyz II Men" as if he were on a variety show.

Australia Home Networking Package discontinued

Tue, 01/14/2014 - 04:16
The problem I have is: I need to download some shows from TIVO to Mac. I have Roxio Toast II but no Home Networking Package. The HNP is no longer available and can't be purchased here (TIVO's and TIVO software are no longer sold in Australia) - which means I have no MAK. What are my options?

IS there an issue with the Stream and H.264 ?

Tue, 01/14/2014 - 04:06
IS there still an issue with the Stream and H.264 ?
An issue with H.264 was mentioned earlier in this thread.

Has this been resolved, or fixed ?

Is it hardware or software , and is TIVO going to fix it ( either way ) ?

Anyone like to provide any further clarifications or descriptions of this issue,
and if it is not resolved,
and where it's current (and possible future) status might be headed.

Thanks.

Anyone know if the Series 3 is able to properly record and/or play mp4 sources or recordings?

Thanks for any responses.

Tivo 4 Input from FIOS Cable Box

Tue, 01/14/2014 - 00:17
I would like to be able to use FIOS on demand service which I can't do with a cable card. Can I use a cable card, and output the FIOS box into my TIVO 4 so that I can record the on demand content?

Any insights would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Intellingence 1/13/2014

Can forgive a lot...but seriously, you see a guy holding a detonator that is going to kill dozens of people and you don't shoot? I know she claimed not to have a shot, but it damned well look like she did. Also, how did the terrorist wife know where the bad guy would be running in order to do a high speed pickup?

Then on top of that, after holding back when seeing the bad guy not only try to use the detonator, but then get into a car, the agent decides to shoot wildly at a car speeding away?

Automatically switch between unused tuners with channel change

Mon, 01/13/2014 - 21:24
When I am changing channels on my Premiere and Roamio basic, it continues to use the same tuner. When I am surfing like that, I am changing to programs in which I am interested. I am not necessarily ready to commit to recording them when surfing but if after turning away I choose to go back to a prior program, I miss everything that happened previously (unless I had chosen to record it).

I am aware that hitting the Live TV button switches tuners but I think that the Tivo should automatically switch to an unused tunerwhen I switch channels so that the channel from which I am turning continues to record the 30 minute buffer. That way, if I switch back 15 minutes later, I can rewind and catch what I missed.

Dukes of Hazzard -S1E2

Mon, 01/13/2014 - 21:21
So, I'm a bit behind on my tv watching :D..

But seriously, I was channel flipping the other day and ran across this episode and tried to recapture some of my youth by watching it. This was an episode where Daisy got swindled out of $50 by some music "pirates" or some such. Anyway, the a Duke boys were talking with a guy at some point that was maybe a manager of some country singer, I believe. During the conversation one of them mentioned a country singers name and you could plainly tell they dubbed a VoiceOver and said Loretta Lynn. Later one of the pirates also said another name but again a dubbed voice said Loretta Lynn.

Yes, this is an obscure question but I wonder whose name they really said and why the voice over??

Premiere XL & cable co. going all digital

Mon, 01/13/2014 - 21:07
I have a Premiere XL. I subscribe to Charter basic cable and watch on an analog TV. Charter is trying to go all digital, I suspect they will be successful.

I don't understand what this means for me. On the news they are saying subscribers will need a set top box.

Is the Premiere sending digital channels to my analog tv? I know I can't get all channels since my TV only get ch 2-99 (or something like that). For example, how will Charter going "all digital" effect say, the CBS network reception? Do I need to get a set to box or cablecard? Or will the Premiere handle the all digital signal, and my limitation will be the channels of my Analog TV?

thanks, Jon

The Incredible Dr. Pol

This show is terrific! It reminds me of the book All Creatures Great And Small. It is a reality show about a vet and his family in rural Michigan. Dr. Pol treats small animals in his clinic, and big animals like horses and cows out in the field. Anyone else enjoy the program like me?

Lifetime Won't Happen until November

Mon, 01/13/2014 - 19:31
I activated my new Roamio and asked for $99 on my XL4. Which qualified but since I had just renewed under $99 a year the representative put it in as renewing November 2014 for lifetime.
It still shows account as 3 "good Standing" not lifetime. I did get an email that says I will get lifetime in November 2014.

Any ideas how I can sell this on Ebay with "lifetime" even though it won't get lifetime until November?

Should I call back under the 30 Day refund policy and drop the lifetime? Or just wait until November?

The whole thing was to get the liftetime on XL4 so I could sell it and recoup some cash.

My third box goes to no commitment $14.99 on February 1st just a basic Premier with external drive. I could just drop that box then and have the other two lifetimes (Series 5 Pro and 4XL) and forget the option of selling the 4XL. Don't need three boxes and 10 tuners, dropping a box also recoups $2 a month cablecard.

Any suggestions?
TIA

mini access recordings on non-Premieres? (S3, pyTivoNAS)

Mon, 01/13/2014 - 19:26
I have a new Roamio, 2-tuner Premiere and old S3 (which is my main box)...
I am considering swapping the Premiere for a Mini, to make more portable and simplify ToDo / now playing lists...

However, I have significant recordings on my S3, and would want to watch them on the mini.
I know of course I cannot stream directly from S3 to mini.

But is there a way to "browse" other tivo's NowPlaying list, from the Mini UI?
eg can I select my S3 at the bottom of Mini(roamio) NP list, transfer a recording from S3 to Roamio, then stream from roamio to mini?
Same for recordings on pyTivo NAS...

or would I have to actually go to the Roamio UI, transfer from the S3, then go to Mini UI and stream from roamio?

Can I stream a program, that is still in process of transferring?

Changing Cable Provider

Mon, 01/13/2014 - 19:02
I was just wondering.....I will be switching to Cox Cable from Verizon. Do I have to re-program all of my season passes to the new channel numbers when I switch cable cards? When the Cox tecniction puts in the new cable card will the Tivo loose any of the information stored in the season pass section. Thank you all in advance!!

TiVo online Season Pass Manager down

Mon, 01/13/2014 - 18:55
Hi Folks - I assume this is down for everyone else as well? I just bought (3) TiVo Mini's on Friday to replace 3 of my old TiVo's since they work so well with the Roamio. And before I do that, I need to transfer my season passes (some of the Tivo's have a lot) and content.

Since Saturday I haven't been able to get it to work online - and when I chat with support all they can say is "we don't have an ETA"... very frustrating!

Does anyone have any other information about this?

Matt

Directv Tivo

Mon, 01/13/2014 - 18:49
I'm getting rid of an HR-22 for the tivo HHR?? whatever it is, can't hook it up for some reason so they are sending an installer.

Some questions:

Will the tivo be faster than the Hr22-100 as far as the guide and recordings? That's really my goal here. I would have stayed on the whole home if the rep could guarantee me an HR25 but she couldn't.

Other than whole home and 3d, what will i be missing with the tivo powered unit?

Tivo Sparks When Plugging In

Mon, 01/13/2014 - 18:26
Hello,

We've had our Tivo for 10+ years, and changed out the hard drive about 5 years ago. There's been no issues up until today. My wife tried to unplug the wifi connector and accidentally pulled out the power plug instead. When she tried plugging it back into the Tivo, a ton of sparks came from the inside. I tried and the same thing happened.

If you plug it in quickly and leave it alone, then the sparks go away...but if you wiggle the connector, the sparks come again. Obviously this is a fire hazard and it's unplugged right now. Any ideas as to what it is and why all of a sudden it's doing this?

Thanks
