My XL4 has spontaneously rebooted 4 times in the last six weeks and under the exact same conditions. On a Sunday I will be recording an early NFL game on one tuner and a second and later NFL game on second tuner and a different channel. While watching the first game I press the left arrow on the Select Pad to go back to the menu and the screen goes black and the TiVo XL4 reboots and then resumes recording the two games.
I was using the SD menu during above incidents, which brings me to another problem I encountered. Again using the SD menu I was watching a show I had recorded a few days earlier when I began to get artifacts, pixilation and sound distortion. Ive encounter this before but it only lasted for a few seconds, but this time it continued for several minutes until I gave up on the recording. Out of curiosity I changed to the HD menu interface and went back to the supposedly corrupted recording and now it played perfectly. One of the things I checked when I encountered these problems was to see if the TiVo was perhaps recording 4 things and was overloaded, but in each case there was never more that 2 red lights indicating a recording in progress.
Ive owned TiVos for about 12 years and I was pleased that TiVo gave me the option to use the SD menu as I found the HD menu to be some what sluggish while responding to the remote. I am starting wonder if using the SD menu contributing to my problems.
Since I have been feeling in a contrary mood lately - and aparently haven't already stirred the pot enough... I have another thought.
I was reading this article on Engadget for the TiVo Mini. I do love the idea of the Mini and I think we will all agree that dynamic tuner allocation is going to be the driving feature.
And according the the article it is coming:
At launch, the Mini will take over one of the four tuners of the XL4 if you want to watch live TV on it, but dynamic tuner allocation is on the road map
But I had a sinking feeling as I was answering another post this morning. Is it possible that the road map for dynamic tuner allocation exists only in the next platform upgrade?
Is that an S5 feature only? Dave Z brought up an interesting thought about the current sales and what could easily be inventory reduction strategies...
What do you guys think?
I forgot how mad the topic of video conversion makes me sometimes. I am new to TiVo and want to be able to stream all of my home videos and ripped movies from my Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 6 but they are currently all in a WMV format...which won't work with TiVo. How can I convert these to a format that TiVo can play and also be playable via Windows Media Player and Xboxes? I tried converting a movie in Handbrake but it converted the movie to an M4V file which won't play in Windows Media Player...so I am assuming it won't play on Xbox.
I've noticed, for the last years or so, that all my recordings start about 20 seconds before the previous show ends. I noticed this on ALL channels, so I was assuming the TIVO time is off by some seconds. Also noticed they seem to cut off about 20 seconds early too.
Way back, I took my hacked series 2 and have a script that ran to move the clock in the tivo ahead 15 seconds right after it calls out to Tivo, which seemed to have worked fine.
Now, Looking at my tivohd and premiere tivo, I think I'd suggest to tivo people a Global time offset value a user can set in this situation. Meaning after the time is network time set, the offset it applied, in my case 15 seconds or so.
Anyone else seeing this issue? You think this would help? It would be alot cleaner that trying to pad and unpad every recorded show :)
I was wondering if I could use AirPlay, Slingbox & TiVo to watch my TiVo recordings away from home on a TV?
If I have multiple Premiers, and they are all networked with wired Ethernet, can I stream from each one to the others? I currently have 2 Premiers (bought 1 off of eBay and the other off of Craigslist) but only 1 is currently activated. My intention is to eventually have a total of 5 TiVo's which if they were all Premier's would in effect give me a total of 10 tuners to record things on. I had originally thought about buying 1 XL4 to get a box that has 4 tuners but if I am able to record against all 10 tuners and watch any of the content on any of the other TiVos...not sure it would be cost effective to buy an XL4. I am currently upgrading the 1 activated Premier I have with a new 3TB hard drive and would do the same for the other TiVos so space would not be an issue.
I have just switched to Comcast and TiVo from DirecTV and was excited to learn about the value add I was getting because of the partnership formed between TiVo and Netgear to integrate TiVo with ReadyDLNA devices. I enabled the TiVo feature on my ReadyNAS Pro and entered my TiVo Media Access Key. I now see the ReadyNAS as an option on the TiVo and can see the folders for each movie on the ReadyNAS but I don't see any files in the folders. Based on past experiences, I believe it is something to do with permissions...just not sure where to change that or what to change it to.
Is there anyone in the NYC/Brooklyn area that can replace the capicitators, as well as perform a 2TB drive upgrade on my Series 3 oled? If so, please PM me.
Does anyone know if I can use one of my old Tivos, which are no longer subscribed, to transfer and watch videos from my subscribed Tivo?

Thought an episode thread would be in order given the events of this one.
Sybil! I can't believe they wrote her out. She was my favorite one! As this story developed, it seemed like either she or the baby wouldn't make it, though. There wouldn't have been much point, plotwise, in beating up the local doctor just for the heck of it. One more sign that times are passing the Granthams by... they can't just hole up in the estate and count on their money getting them through anymore. I'm sorry to see her go.
Of course Mary remains ever true to herself, telling Edith this won't bring them any closer.
I hope we're not stuck with Tom for long. I don't really think the character works. He's more an archetype than a person.
I am selling my trusty Series 3 TiVo box with LIFETIME service included. This is the 250GB model and I am including a 500GB eSata drive expansion unit as well for a total of 750GB storage. It's the Tivo-approved expansion drive, I researched that when I bought it. Integrates seamlessly and provides 200% more storage than the built-in hard drive. Never had any problems with it!
This is a dual-tuner unit with HDMI output. Has two CableCard slots, wireless adapter NOT included, can connect through Ethernet to wired network or you must buy wireless adapter. I'm throwing in the orginal glow-remote, some of the buttons are a little worn from lots of usage but it works well.
This unit has performed FLAWLESSLY but I have recently purchased a Premiere unit so I am letting this go.
$300 / obo
I have an old TiVo series 2 dual tuner that is stuck on the "Powering Up" screen. I think the hard drive is shot, where can I buy a new hard drive for it? Thank You in advance,
I just noticed that on my TiVo Premiere's guide that a lot of shows the season and episode information is missing. Usually when you bring up a show on the guide at the top you see the name of the show then under that the Episode name is listed followed by the season and episode. Well the season and episode are both missing. This is happening on main broadcast channels like ABC, NBC and CBS.
Is anyone else experiencing this ?
I've emailed TiVo support but I'm still waiting to hear back from them.
Hey all, I'm getting ready to ditch my Comcast HD DVR for a TiVo, but before I do, I wanted to check and make sure now is a good time to buy. Has anyone heard any even remotely credible leaks about new TiVo models on the horizon? How far into the product cycle are we exactly? Will we see the equivalent of a series 5 TiVO in 2013?
I have a series 3 (OLED) TiVo that was having some issues. Fixing a power supply bad cap seemed to only temporarily fix it. I replaced its hard drive with a 500GB one and was finally able to put its original 250GB hard drive in a desktop and ran the Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostic utility on the entire thing. Did the "extended" test (took about 90mins).
It came back with bad sectors and I chose the option to repair them, but it was unable to. I then ran the report and it says the following:
TEST ERROR CODE: 08-Error was detected while repairing bad sectors.
Does this pretty much mean the drive is not useable for TiVo purposes? OR can I possibly "write zeros" and this will fix it? Nothing important on here so I don't mind losing it all.
