I have Cablevision/Optimum service and I noticed that all of my recorded shows on all of my TiVo boxes are now copy protected. It seems that this started at the same time that Optimum started pushing their new TV To Go service in the last month or so. It smells a lot like they are trying to force people into using this service by quietly making life hard for people with an alternative. Has anyone else had this issue?
In the past, if all tuners were scheduled to be used and then I attempt to pad a show that will run into those shows, I would get a conflict error. Even if 2 shows were on the same channel, they would take 2 tuners for the overlap. This does not appear to be the case with Roamio. I have 6 shows scheduled to record tonight at 9 but then needed to pad Big Brother because of the sports overrun, pushing it past 9. Now there are 7 shows recording at 9 (but only 6 channels) with no conflict error. If they added this ability that is great news. I've always wondered why that wasn't done. Good job TiVo!

I was in Best Buy today and they actually had a base roamio setup on display.
I must say the demo was totally lame and whomever at Tivo headquarters designed the setup should be fired. The roamio was in a mode where all you were able to do was play 4 or 5 short video clips through a single menu which had several entries which were linked to playing these short video clips. I mean the video clips were maybe 30 seconds long at best.
No cable nor antenna was hooked up.
No live tv.
No channel changing.
No EPG was avaliable to schedule recordings.
No NPL was avaliable with recorded content.
No IP based services.
No DVR capability at all is presented to a potential customer!
Lame & Sad at the same time.
Come on Tivo. I thought you actually wanted to sell these things.
After a hiatus from Tivo, we are back with a lifetime Roamio base model along with a Tivo Stream.
Was excited for the first NFL game of the season until we sat down to watch the recorded game.
I don't know exactly how to describe it, but it seems like big parts of the recording aren't accessible. If we try to watch or fast forward to a spot, the show jumps to a different earlier/later spot. It's like the recording is corrupt. It's the same behavior whether we try to watch the recording on TV using the Roamio or streaming on the iPad.
I'm really disappointed. I doubt there's a way to fix the recording, but if anyone has hints, I'd love to hear them. Also I want to make sure to properly report this bug to Tivo. I haven't rebooted the unit yet.
For reference we are using Moca networking and are on Comcast using a Motorola Cable Card. The recording was scheduled using the Tivo app on an iPad.

it would be nice if tivo could add error correction to all boxes especially starting with series 4.
make the error correction like it is on a pc.
while recording if a bad sector is detected then it locks out that sector and re writes the data to another sector.
and do this on the fly using something like crc checksum.
tivo you may say this cant be done retroactively.

the data is written to the drive then verified and rewritten if bad sector is detected and sector is locked out.
I'm currently transferring shows from a Series 3 over wifi, which I know isn't supported. This is maxing out the wifi, so the Roavio is having problems getting any other network data.
I was watching football behind the buffer, and had added an hour to the end of the game just in case. When I reached the end of the game, the show was still recording, so I tried to stop the recording. TiVo told me that there were network problems and I couldn't do that.
The TiVo shouldn't need to check with the network before manually stopping a recording.
(It was an autorecord wishlist, if that proves to make a difference.)
Is there a way to add season passes to tivo before they are available in the guide?
As I see new shows that are coming up in the Fall, I want to add them but can't find a way until they show up in the guide.
After two days with the roamio have no complaints. Love the fast interface. Was going to buy a mini for the kitchen after i sold my premier XL4 but after setting up the moca on the roamio I hooked up premier in the kitchen. Was lucky after hearing the horror stories here. Worked first time. Figure this way I have 8 tuners at least to use for recording things in case Cox doesn't have a cable card that will stream 6 tuners. Can live with the slower interface in the kitchen as it isn't used for Netflix or anything like that. Cox only charges 1.99 a month for the cable card and tuning adapter so it isn't a bad deal.
Any thoughts from anyone?
I have an Asus router connected to a Netgear 16 port switch. The switch feeds most of the house and one cable goes to my office to a Netgear 5 port switch. My Roamio and Premiere plug into the router. In my office, I have the Mini, my printer and PC in the 5 port switch. I had to set all Tivo devices to static IP to get them to work with each other.
After setting all this up, my Wife's PC couldn't get on the internet. She is plugged into the 16 port. I unplugged the 5 port and rebooted her PC, then it worked. I reconnected the 5 port all was fine for a day. Next day my Office PC was dead slow. I unplugged and reconnected the 5 port and it got better, but then we find hers is slow. More uplugging and restarting and it's better for a while.
Could the mini be hogging all my local bandwidth? Both switches are the 100mbps series, would gigbit models be better?
Should all my PCs have static IPs? Is there a downside to doing this?
TiVo is sending out emails for those who recently activated the Roamio. It is generally just stuff anyone who has used a TiVo knows, but I noticed the one that went out today is actually for a survey so keep your eyes open for it.

Just curious if there are any cons to leaving your TiVo unit or Mini on all of the time. I always felt standby mode would help with longevity but is it only power consumption?

I just setup my new TiVo Roamio - Plus and experienced multiple issues. I essentially removed a Tivo 4 and replaced it with a Tivo Roamio, so I know all the connections work. The first software and guide update completed without any issues. However, it took *hours* with multiple forced connections and reboots to get the Tivo to activate so I could use it. Once activated, I noticed several messages indicating the Tivo was losing network connection to the network. Those messages lasted only a few seconds before it appeared the network was restored. I tried streaming from my other Tivo and it wouldn't let me because it stated the network wasn't working. In addition, Netflix and Hulu would play about 15-30 seconds of a show before indicating a general failure.
I had my Tivo connected to the network as follows:
Tivo 5 <-> NETGEAR GS108Ev2 <-> NETGEAR GS116E <-> Home Router
I even flashed both NETGEAR devices above to the latest firmware, but that didn't resolve the issues.
I was able to resolve all the network issues by simply moving the network connection from the NETGEAR device to my Apple AirPort Extreme.
Tivo 5 <-> AirPort Extreme <-> NETGEAR GS116E <-> Home Router
It looks like the Tivo doesn't like my NETGEAR GS108Ev2 switch.
I hope this may help others that are experiencing issues getting their Tivo Roamio activated.
I have a Premiere XL connected to an older Sony rear projection TV (KDS 60A2000) via HDMI which has worked pretty well.
I just purchased a Zvox sound bar for my TV. My Sony TV won't pass through the digital sound from my Tivo (a design limitation of the TV), so I have connected my Tivo directly to my new soundbar via a Toslink optical cable.
Usually it works fine. But sometimes I lose the sound. After a while - many minutes - it usually comes back. Troubleshooting is difficult since the problem is intermittent, but it seems to be an issue with the Tivo's toslink output, that does not affect the HDMI audio signal.
Anyone know of unresolved problems with the toslink output of a Tivo Premiere? What would the recommended audio setting on the tivo - Dolby or PCM audio?
Is anybody else experiencing issues streaming video from the Roamio?
I keep getting the overheating message. Or it can't connect or find my stream device. I never had this issue with my in elite box and stream device.
Just tried to set up a season pass from the guide on my Roamio, set it up then notice that it was set for my Tivo Elite. Went back to guide and set up another season pass and it defaulted to the Elite. Had to start a recorded show from the Roamio then quit the recording, went back to guide and the season pass defaulted to the Roamio tivo now. Any one seeing this problem?
Update: I have 5 Tivo's on my home network, seems season passes will default on the last Tivo I streamed from. Don't remember doing this before the Roamio (but I've slept since then:).
Everything that could go wrong seemed to go wrong. Whether it's a bad card or bad Roamio or both remains to be seen. But I chatted or phoned with TiVo and Verizon for hours and hours over a 2 day period. Verizon is sending a new card and TiVo is sending a new Roamio. I don't fault anyone, ***** happens.
My question which I hope to get a quick answer - I need to disconnect my Roamio and reconnect my Premiere until the new stuff arrives. I have a new cable card from Verizon which was paired to the Roamio and told them the older one was no longer being used. Do you think it's still okay to use the old one in my Premiere without any setup problems? The thought of having to contact Verizon or TiVo again is bringing me nightmares as I type this. -)
Btw, I do find Verizon chat to be infinitely better and more efficient than calling. Though, they have their issues too. The chat all seems to come from India (I've had about 5 chats) and I give them credit... they're not like the stereotypes you hear about that give you subpar assistance and there is no language barrier since it's a computer chat.
I haven't seen anyone else mention the change in the color scheme of the TiVo screens on the Roamios. The Yellow highlight bar is atrocious and way too glaringly bright. It's driving me crazy. I'm Ok with the other changes, but that yellow bar has got to go.
Am I the only one that prefers the old color scheme? It seemed cleaner and much classier.
Several people who have purchased Roamios are have tuning issues. Some are previous Premier XL4 owners who state they also had tuning issues on their Premier. I thought we should take a poll of Premier owners.
