Hello Tivo Community,
So having spent a couple of hours combing through the forum, I could find absolutely no workaround for the problem of "Backup Target not large enough" that occurs if your target drive is even a few MB smaller, even when using a truncated backup image (eg: backup -f 9999 -6so /dos/mybackup.bak /dev/hdc /dev/hdd).
Is this the general consensus? Is this really the sad state of affairs that backup/restore is in? Should I just give it up, and start collecting old >80GB PATA drives so I have a ready supply when failure inevitably occurs again?
Or have I missed something? (An alternative to winmfs/mfslive, perhaps)
I should also mention, I also got this error when trying to restore an image to the same drive it was taken from. /boggle
We have a good wireless network in our house and have been streaming to Apple TVs and iPads for years with no problems. We've just starting using TiVo, and unfortunately we're having problems with the iPad app. The app is fantastic with a beautiful interface and a lot of functionality. The problem is with playing video on the iPad. The video always starts up without problem, but after playing for a few minutes it will stop playing. The video just freezes and nothing happens. Tapping to bring up controls and selecting "Done" returns to the listings. Starting the video again will pick up where it froze. It then plays on for a few minutes and freezes again. It does this with both prerecorded programs and live shows, but interestingly a live show will go much longer before freezing. On a live show this morning, it went for over half an hour before freezing. Going back and replaying the same program from the beginning, it froze in less than five minutes. Anyone else with this problem? Any hints?
With enough RAM (about 1.5GB per tuner to hold 30 minutes of HD video), the hard drive wouldn't need to spin 24/7. This should reduce TiVo's power usage by an order of magnitude.
College football game is going late. Don't know if late local news will insist on entire 1/2 hour or will allow SNL to go on live.
How do I get rid of that annoying tickler that comes up at the bottom of the screen .."CBS for Comedy" Says "press down to hide". I dont wanna hide, but delete it ....
Can the slide remote use a generic bluetooth adapter, or does it require the specific one that comes in the box?
I bought an Asus RT-AC68U router to replace a Netgear router. All of my TiVos worked on the Netgear router. With the Asus, every device I own, wired or wireless, work fine except for my 5 TiVos. 4 are wired, 1 is wireless. The 3 Premiers pass the DNS and port tests. All of the TiVos fail the network test connection and fail to connect to the TiVo service, Netflix, etc. All of them see each other and the TiVo server and can stream and transfer OK. They just can't get to the outside (internet). The router has no blocked ports, URLs, IPs, or anything that I can see. TiVo support blames the router and that seems logical up to a point. But obviously TiVo is doing something that no ther device does. I have desktop and laptop computers, my Andriod phone, several tablets, a Sonos system, 2 RoKus, an XBox, a Sirius radio, and probably other stuff I can think of. Every one of them work perfectly whether wired or wireless:confused:. Only the TiVos do not work.
Does anyone have a idea of what the problem may be?
Craig's not working. Come and get it.
Just watched the pilot, was pretty good introduced the characters (all likable) well.
Is there a way to go from watching something live on TV to select a future recurrence of the show easily?
With my TivoHD I don't remember the exact wording, but you could see all upcoming playings of the same show. Then pick which you want to record. I use this all the time when I stumble on a movie that is already in progress. Am I missing something?
Never mind. I figured it out.
Recording options -> Get this movie -> Record this movie -> Options -> Time & Channel -> If there are future showings available, pressing right will flip through the available ones.
I must have picked a few that had no future showings when I was testing this out.
And I completely missed a slightly faster way that also nicely lists them like the TivoHD did.
Recording options -> Get this movie -> View other showings -> Select from the list
I have an older (2008) Tivo HD (160 GB) with and expansion 1 TB external drive that has been running fine for years.
Over the past two weeks it has been hanging frequently. It will become unresponsive to the remote and only display a black or gray screen. A hard reboot will bring it back to normal for a random amount of time. Sometimes it hangs on reboot, sometimes it reboots fine and goes for hours before it hangs again, but I haven't gotten to to last more than 12 hours or so before it hangs.
My first thought is a hard drive issue, so I booted it into kickstart 54 and ran the S.M.A.R.T tests, and the initial quick ones pass but when it goes into the longer deeper tests, i get the freeze again (unresponsive to remote, only displaying black screen). I tried to individually test the internal drive and the external expansion drive and the same thing. It hangs before it finishes the test.
I am under the impression that the S.M.A.R.T. tests are run from the bios, not from the hard drive itself, so would the fact that the unit fails when trying to run those tests indicate an issue other than hard drive?
I would like to preserve what I have recorded, so would attempt to clone the drive and replace it, if that is the issue, but was wondering if anyone else has seen this?
Does Netflix output Dolby or DTS audio when streaming? If so, will a basic Roamio detect and output it to an A/V receiver?
I have two THR22. One of them has a 2TB internal drive that I had installed (swapped the original) almost 2 years ago.
It just started freezing and crashing. It's usually fine for about 30 minutes after a power cycle.
I'm thinking of replacing the 2TB drive and hope it's not the motherboard that's dying.
Here's my question:
Is it true that I can use Gparted to copy the content of my old 2TB drive to the new one?
I saw the instructions on another forum but it might be for HRxx DVR's only.
can i simply stream music from my itunes on mac through tivo or not? why is this so complicated?
I'm finding this difficult to believe. I cannot access "Manage Programs" from the Mini interface, only from the Roamio interface.
I have the Roamio located in the media room equipment closet and the Mini located in the living room. We do 90% of our TV watching in the living room. I can trigger a new recording or seasons pass from the Mini, but can't see upcoming recordings or manage recordings?
The Roamio is in the media room because that's where my home A/V equipment is housed. Isn't the purpose of a "whole house" DVR to make DVR capabilities available around the whole house? Why would the Mini be throttled in this way? The only rationale I can think of is, "Oh man. We can't have everyone with access to a Mini messing with the recording schedule." Ok, fine, but let me control that on a per-Mini basis.
Anyone know if Manage Recording access is coming to the Mini? Soon?
Okay, I have pytivo running. All my movies are stored on a 3tb external. I currently have 3 folders on the root of the hard drive. Is there a way to have pytivo show up only one folder in my now playing list that when i click on it, then I have access to all the other folders? I don't want a share for each folder on my now playing list if possible. Also, is there a way to have my pytivo shares be sorted by name alphabetically, and my tivo recordings sorted by date? I am not new to tivos, or networking and the like, but pytivo is a little confusing sometimes. So please explain as simple as possible :)
Edit: Actually, I figured out that if i tell it to show groups and sort alphabetically in my pytivo shares, it does NOT affect my now playing list. Also, I figured out That with groups on, It shows me all my sub folders.
So now, my question would be, how do I get it to show only ONE shared item in my now playing list?
I think so.
I used to be resentful of the short and erratic seasons that are handed to us currently in contrast to the structured, dependable, long television seasons I enjoyed the first half of my life. But, I realize (thru discussions with my children) that the writing, not to mention, production costs are in a different realm than the television of years' past. Also, the immense amount of content produced for television that is available across all media is mind-boggling. And I believe there was discussion not that long ago if television could survive the internet. Well, television (IMO) is thriving to be sure. And I believe in great part, it is (ironically)due to the internet. There is no way to accurately measure how many people actually view television content. However, thru social media,
different delivery systems, etc; it is clear, the numbers are staggering. And to me it feels like the choices are endless. To be sure, there is plenty of mediocrity on television. But, I do think, at least in the 50 years or so of my life - television has never been better.
My husband is wanting a way to record shows he's watching via Roku streaming or Chromecast streaming to our TV. Will the basic Roamio do this?
I've been reading the other threads and I'm just trying to make sense of this. I purchased a new roamio and now i have noisy channels, well just about every channel. I see everything is within range except my SNR is at 41-42dB
I called up frontier fios and was told their STB's are at a much lower rate (my 100 signal strength is fine)
I saw the tivo range of 30-35dB, I do have a splitter for internet/TV. so I'm just trying to determine if i just need a simple 10dB attenuator to resolve this out
has anyone figured out how many kilowatt hours a Premiere uses per-month?
