I am in the process of cutting the cable (actually satellite) and going to OTA signals. I have a Chromecast which works fine plugged into the TV. I am thinking about getting a Roamio so I can record the OTA signals to watch later. I know that I will be able to record Hulu+, etc shows on the Roamio, but wonder about things from the net that the Roamio does not support with an app.
If I plug the Chromecast into the Roamio will I be able to record signals from the Chromecast? For example, I can watch Fox Sports Go on my tablet now, and would like to be able to send it to the Chromecast, then record it on the Roamio for later viewing.
Hi - I have a TiVoHD DVR on a wired network. Signal strength is fine (99/100). I'm on FiOS, and never any network issues (we run a business at home so would notice if network was down).
On 1/30 (2 days before the event) I used the web interface to schedule a recording of the superbowl. I received the two Emails (request received, recording confirmed), but in fact nothing was ever scheduled on my TiVo. At 6:40 on Sunday, neither tuner was recording, and nothing was mentioned in the ToDo list or recording history, and there was nothing in the Messages list. In the previous week I had scheduled 2 other recordings in the same manner successfully (i.e., they WE'RE on the Todo list and there WAS a message).
I contacted TiVo by chat, and all they could do is scratch their head, and suggest that if I tried it again and it worked, then it was fixed. Oddly, they had no way (or no interest in) tracing the request through their servers.
Point is, if you can't trust the confirmation Email, what good is the online interface?
I was wondering if others had experienced this - or if there was a resolution/workaround?
On my Samsung TVs, the input button scrolls you through a transparent menu and you have to hit a seperate select button to clear the menu. With the Roamio remote, the input button scrolls me through the input options fine, but I can not find any button to clear the menu. It takes over a minute for the menu to finally clear on it's own, and it's annoying. I now have to keep my TV remote next to the TiVo remote, but I would really like to use only one remote.
Any options with the current remote, or is the Slide Pro Remote with more learning buttons an option?
When I noticed the % hardrive space indicator on the Roamio main screen, I remember how excited I was when I loaded that hack on my Series 1. It made me think about how many of those S1 hacks are now standard in the TiVo software. I don't know if TiVo listened to the hackers, or if it was a natural progression of increased functionaility.
I still do miss the days of hacking though. That was so much fun!
I know you can hook other devices to the ethernet port of a roamio (connected via moca) to give them access to your network.
Is the same true for a tivo mini?
I was having random channel tuning issues with a Series 3 HD unit (model #TCD652160) in a basement bedroom. I tried another identical Series 3 unit in this room and had the same problem. I called Comcast to have the cable card repaired (both units), but still had the issues. Since they are older Series 3s, I thought it was the TiVos themselves and even at one point thought it was the cable card firmware.
I saw some post here about cable card firmware and how getting the firmware updated fixed the problem, but these were issues mainly in FL & I am in GA. I called and tried to get Comcast to "upgrade" the firmware, but they told me this was not available for me & their engineers said it wasn't the problem.
Recently, I got a discounted 2-tuner Premiere and stuck it in this bedroom instead thinking these random tuning issues would go away. Nope and still had them. Another thing too is the old Series 3 TiVos were moved to the basement rec room and work fine on another outlet so it made me then think there is an issue with that room and its outlet.
The only thing I can think of is there is a Comcast installed amplifier in this room that is needed for the entire house and our Comcast internet. Its the only factor that is different from the other 4 perfectly working TiVos (Series 3 and 4s). Here is a picture of the Comcast installed amplifier.
As you can see from the pics, one coax end goes to the TiVo Premiere in that room. The other end of the splitter then essentially goes back outside to the Comcast coax distributor for the other TiVos (and is amplified this way)
Does this sound like its probably the issue? If so, I have to figure out where Comcast can maybe install this AND not affect other TiVos in my house (currently 3 other live TiVo outlets)
So how would Plex fit into the TivoDesktop software? A re-write obviously, we would no longer allow you to send video taking valuable space but would Stream not only Video but the entire Plex package (Photos, Videos and Music), also assuming we were granted full access it would also open the channels live as well. How much would this new enhanced Tivo add-on costs? For the value it would bring to both sides, I'm sure a compromise would be made, for a first time would cause a overwhelming desire to own.For what little research that would need to be done to make the conversion possible, Tivo would save millions in R&D plus they would gather a huge fanbase of support like never before.
Before we had the upgrade there was no way of hope in seeing such a day as close as now. I'll be honest nobody thought we could get this close to a timeline.
We are still missing a few apps to come at a later point.
*Plex* (No Longer necessary if we have Tivo Plus with Plex!)
I'm not enjoying series 3 of Sherlock as much as series 1 and 2. The episodes seemed more confusing in spots, and more jerky/jumping around in their presentation.
I like where the characters arrived at, but didn't enjoy watching the journey. I know this is vague, and may not make much sense, but I can't quite put it into words.
If I remember correctly, even the wedding episode (which I liked) had something off-putting in its makeup, something I don't remember from episodes in series 1 or 2.
What's the opinion of the Sherlock fans here?
When I click info and go to the tuners list I see that all of them are tuned to different channels. Besides the one I am viewing and any recordings I scheduled why are the remaining tuners in use? They seem to be tuned to random stations. Does the TiVo require all tuners to always be tuned to something? This really confuses me.
Hey guys. Recently upgraded my setup at home to a new 6 tuner Roamio and a mini. As such, I have the following units available:
1 dual tuner Premiere with remote and power cord and lifetime service
1 TiVo HD (whatever the smallest capacity was, honestly don't remember) with power cord and remote and lifetime service.
Make me an offer. I have no idea what these are going for on eBay, but I'd like to avoid going to eBay if possible.
After converting saved DVR files using tivo2go on my PC, the original *.tivo files on the PC are deleted.
My questions are, can these files be recovered and why aren't they listed in the Recycle Bin?
I am looking at getting a new router for my in home network. I wanted to see what successful setups people on here had. I have searched and found people having problems with certain models, but I would really like to see whose setup is working great and what hardware they are running.
I am trying to play an MKV file with Streambaby which I've used for years now.
Streambaby plays video fine but no audio. How can I troubleshoot this?
Back in December we migrated from a pair of TivoHD to a Roamio+Mini. We also had Terk volume levelers installed, which required that we use analog component video and analog stereo audio. The Terk device has analog RCA I/O.
The new Mini lacks analog IO. This has me asking what other people do to overcome issues volume? We routinely find that when watching movies dialogue is too low, but the music & effects are much too loud.
It's not clear what we can do to overcome this trouble. In the case of the Roamio it was easy enough to put on of the Terk devices back into service.
I will be connecting roamio pro to network via moca. Can I connect my 5 port switch to the roamios Ethernet connection? Is it as simple as that? Do I need to tweak any settings?
I have been trying to pair a cable card for a couple of days here. Comcast sent out a tech today even who was unable to fully pair it. The issue may be due to the TiVo box, a premiere elite, having been paired previously with a different cablecard. We finally managed to get the two settings on the conditional access screen to read:
Con: Yes EBCP: Yes. Val: ? 0x00
I called Comcast and attempted four different times to get it paired. No luck. They sent out a tech who went through two additional cards. But no matter what they tried on the a Comcast side they could not get the "Val" to read as "V".
I now get most channels, but no premium ones.
Can anyone tell me what the "Val" setting is and what controls it on the comcast database side? The comcast tech pushing the data seemed to suggest the problem was with the TiVo box...which had previously worked flawlessly.
I guess I have to now have the supervisor bring out another handful of cards to try them...but I know it's just really a matter of Comcast not caring/wanting to support TiVo devices enough to train their people on how to fix these situations.
I can't believe that TiVo hasn't coordinated the installation and configuration of cablecards better with Comcast. It really creates a really horrible customer experience.
My Tivo Premiere started changing screen resolution about 6 weeks ago. I compare it to my old Windows XP screen when the resoultion decreases causing all of the characters to look larger than they normally would. Like 600 x 800, etc.
Only about half of the normal high def image is view-able. I have to reset the box to correct the problem. If I didn't know to press the thumbs down 3x, then press the enter button to reset, I would be stuck. As I cant see that part of the instructions on the low resolution screen.
I have had to reset 2x tonight watching the superbowl. The screen only shows the left half of the field. The right half of the field is out of the picture.
Thanks for suggestions.
Pirates use condom!!! :D
Metlife, Schroeder playing 'The Star Spangled Banner" in the center of MetLife Stadium. How powerful an anthem can be when it's played by only one instrument.
I have an old series 2 unit that I'm selling. Does TiVo still support dial-in lines for schedule updates or is a network connection required these days?
