Been quite awhile since I used a TiVo on component output (S3) and was wondering if the the Roamio and Mini downscale protected channels or content to 720 like I have read the studios have been pressuring for. I haven't seen this mentioned so if it's been covered already I apologize in advance.
Due to a power outage at South Park Studios, Matt and Trey missed their deadline this week
, so the scheduled episode, "Goth Kids 3: Dawn of the Posers," didn't air.
It's supposed to air next Wednesday, 10/23, and you may need to set that manually, for the usual "your TiVo/DVR thinks it already got recorded" reason.
Roamio Plus, Charter Cable. Cisco cablecard is my third try. None of the previous Scientific Atlantic cards would automatically update the firmware to PKEY184.108.40.20601 as they are supposed to. Tivo said to try a different cablecard. I'm on the third try and it won't update. The current card has firmware that ends in 2401; all the previous one ended in 1601.
Tivo says they can't force an update. Charter is clueless, they say they can't update the firmware -- they actually advised me to try Weaknees! Good idea, but the next Charter technician said it would void something.
Any ideas on how to get the card to update firmware? I was missing 3 of 4 tuners before (Tivo advised me to restrict to 4 tuners for now). Now it's only missing Tuner 0.
We will be releasing an update later today for TiVo Roamio and TiVo Mini.
Here is a list of some of the changes:
- TiVo Mini now waits 4 hours (instead of 90 minutes) of no remote control activity before prompting the user and then timing out of live TV and showing a screen saver
- new RF Remote Pairing screen for TiVo Roamio (Settings > Remote)
- fixed audio delay of 10+ seconds when unpausing a Netflix video with Dolby Digital+
- fixed macro-blocking of Amazon downloads
- fixed the occasional loud burst of static
- fixed several issues related to HDMI and various TVs where the UI/video would not display when the TV was turned on, or the box frequently rebooted when the TV was off
- improved the behavior of the RF remote in areas with WiFi interference
- fixed a MoCA encryption incompatibility between Roamio and Mini
- fixed issues related to overlapping recordings causing missed recordings and A/V glitching
The update should probably be available sometime after 4pm PT.
Reading a few things from Dave Z and a few others clues, I am pretty sure planned updates to both the Roamio line and the Mini's are going to happen en mass and not staged as they have done and continue to do for other models.
If that is true, that means no more priority page registration, (and no more early clues of a pending release)
Do you think this is just because the install base is relatively small, or do you think this is a new distribution model they have in place?
I have a DirecTV Hughes SD-DVR80. I've had it for...I don't even know how long. But when we moved to this house several years ago, we got rid of DirecTV and this poor Tivo has been sitting in a closet holding all our old shows.
So, my question is (besides hooking it up to a TV), is there a way to get the recorded shows OFF of it? Like keep them? On a computer? Disc? Cloud? Something?
Or is this wishful thinking?
I tried to search to see if anyone had answered this question, but honestly, y'all are too smart for me. So, feel free to direct me to another conversation.
Thanks in advance for any replies! :)
I'm surprised to not see blacklist discussion this week! (or did I miss it somehow?)
The stewmaker felt to me like some weird hybrid of Dexter and Breaking bad. We've got rooms covered in plastic, and bodies dissolved in bathtubs.
I thought James Spader did a superb job of acting, with his speech prior to the stewmaker's demise.
I loved the scene where Ressler walks into the room with the mob boss, and Red immediately outs him as an FBI agent, and then Ressler expertly fabricates a cover story on the spot.
I'm liking this series more and more each week.
We were running low on hard drive space, so using the included Tivo transfer app that came with Toast Titanium 11 I was able to copy the shows from our Premier Tivo to my iMac. Then I deleted the shows on the Tivo to free up the space.
We are now ready to watch the shows, and I thought it would be pretty simple to copy the files back to the Tivo using the MactoTivo app that came with Toast 11, but that appears to not be the case.
I've found numerous articles talking about unlocking a feature in the Tivo to Desktop program for Mac that would allow you to transfer Mpeg-2 files over to your Tivo. But I wasn't sure if that would work with the encrypted .tivo files (I know that is just a Tivo protected container for mpeg-2 files).
Has anyone had any experience in copying original untouched .tivo files back to a Tivo using a Mac?
I'm curious....does anyone know the technology in how the Roamio is able to record 6 tuners at once? I'm assuming it isn't just splitting the signal internally right? Wouldn't that lead to a low quality signal? Or is it amping the signal internally?
I'm curious because of my issue where I am seeing some channels, not all, start to have a lower signal and SNR in the diagnostics, while the rest remain 100%.
Thanks for any info.
Very good episode.
Luke: "Mom, someone's at the door"
But I literally laughed out loud when Phil's suit split.
The remote for my new Roamio stopped working - new batteries, light goes on with button presses, but no response from the Tivo.
If I reset the remote by removing the batteries, it works again, but if I then use the iphone app to control the Roamio, the remote unpairs again. Any ideas?
I've done about 6 HD upgrades with my 5 tivos without a problem until now. I have two tivo series 3 on OTAs and decided to upgrade both to 2 TB. I have always split the signal on RCA to other TVs in house with the HDMI going to my main (60") TV in my living room. I now experience a momentary blackout on both tivos that occurs about 3-5 times during a half hour show. I lose both sound and video, but only on HDMI-all other TVs on the RCA cables work fine. I also have a premiere (no upgrade) that is unaffected. I tried several hdmi cables as well as switch the inputs at the tv with solving the issue.
Could this possibly be a problem with both of the new drives. Any other ideas? I went so far as to replace my hdmi cables with expensive cables from monoprice to no avail. Ironically I can watch the two series 3s in any room other than the living room but lose the hdmi. I am out of ideas---Help!!!
Any thoughts? Looks like it could be a pretty good season.
Candice must be a real b**** to live with. Why is she and others that hold a grudge realize it is a game. They take every vote against them as something personal. I'm now rooting for Brad Culpepper, just for his attitude about how Survivor should be played.
I've been a tivo owner since forever and one thing I've always used is the feature where when you were fast forwarding at 3x speed another click on the ff button put you back into play mode. That doesn't seem to work on the roamio. Is there anyway to do this anymore?
Are there any other companies out there that sell DVR units? And this is excluding cable companies that lease you a DVR unit.
I know when I did some research a few months ago, I couldn't find any except for one that I think Sony sold years ago and they no longer sell.
What else is out there besides Tivo?
I don't have a subscription with Time Warner but I can plug the cable wire in from the wall to my TV and get all the OTA channels with no problem. But once I plug it into my Tivo, I only get about 6 channels versus the 20+ that I get with plugging it into my TV.
One thing I was hoping Tivo would implement is a little better padding support.
Not as much of a problem with 6 tuners now, but with 4 tuners it was an issue.
What I would like to see is if 2 shows back to back on the same channel are set to record and you have a 1 minute pre and post show padding, it will use 2 tuners during the overlap period.
Tivo should be able to use one channel and save the pre/post overlap to both recordings.
This would mean the 2 minutes of show 1 would be the same as the first 2 minutes of show 2.
Then you only use 1 tuner.
Also, I would like to have an option to drop the padding from a recording if all tuners are used instead of using priority to handle overlap.
I would much rather record the entire time slot and not the padding than miss the first minute of a show due to priority when the padding isn't always necessary.
Another scenario is I add 1 hr padding to Amazing Race and Mentalist due to CBS football overruns when they show a game at 4pm (east coast).
On Sundays where there isn't a late game, I would like to remove/reduce the padding since it won't be necessary to record and waste space.
Is it possible to change individual record settings for a Season Pass?
I hope I was clear in my descriptions.
