Simultaneous Composite A/V and HDMI, on a Roamio PRO?

Thu, 11/28/2013 - 17:47
Anyone tested composite video and audio on a roamio PRO, at the same time your're using HDMI?

Mine doesn't seem to be doing that, but debugging is very difficult in my setup. I have a huge rat's nest of wires and very, very poor access. (A rack with rear access would be SO much nicer)

Upgrade Advice

I have been looking at the Roamio Pro.

I currently have a S2 (2006, monthly, cable box) and a HD (2009, annual, cableCARD & Tuning adapter) connected to a living room HDTV. There is a SDTV in our bedroom without any TiVo connected as that TV is rarely used.

I was thinking of consolidating down to one device...Roamio Pro, probably w/lifetime service.

I have recordings to transfer, so my plan was to get the Roamio, transfer the recordings from the S2, once done, deactivate service for the S2 and then use the CC/TA from the HD to actively use the Roamio. I am under the impression that the HD should still get analog cable and still be able to transfer recordings until it's service is deactivated (Feb 2014).

However, I am reluctant to just box up TiVos that still seem to be in good working order. However, due to age, I figure I would not get anything for them as they do not have the lifetime service and many would just go for a newer device rather than these old ones.

As I type this, I'm not really sure what my question is...I know I'd like to get the Roamio and I know I'd like to go down to one device. I guess I am wondering the best course of action for the HD and the remainder of it's year of service and the capabilities without CC/TA and what to do with the SD & HD once I've upgraded.

Connect Mini to a laptop?

Thu, 11/28/2013 - 16:42
Hello all,

Just bought a Roamio and a Mini as an early Christmas gift (for myself!)... while I'm waiting for them to arrive, wanted to see if it is possible to hook up the Mini to Macbook Pro? I have the laptop connected to a 27" monitor, and would love to use that as a second screen, if possible!

Base Roamio VS Elite

Which one would you use as Main Tivo? Which is better minus the hard drive space, MOCA and THX????

File Sizes

Thu, 11/28/2013 - 12:38
What is a typical file size for an hour long 1080P HD recording once downloaded to an iPad mini? Is a 16GB iPad Mini going to be large enough to download a few shows? Should be fine if the average size is around 1GB...but if it's like 3-4GB for an hour I'd be in trouble.

Cheapest alternative to record one channel OTA

Thu, 11/28/2013 - 12:03
I currently have a Premiere XL4 plus Mini with Comcast digital cable. This serves 90% of my TV watching. The remaining 10% is satisfied with net options (Netflix, Hulu, Playon, etc). However, there is one channel that Comcast doesn't carry that I am very interested in - Cozi TV. Looking at my choices I've found that Cozi TV is not streamed via the net (that I can find). It is, however, broadcast OTA by my local NBC affiliate.

I currently have nothing in my house receiving OTA nor any way to record such if I were to get an antenna. I do have an HDHomerun (that I used to use before getting my TiVo) but it only receives channels in the clear from my cable feed. So, my question is what is the cheapest and easiest alternative to be able to receive AND record this one OTA channel? Should I look at a two tuner Premiere unit or a Roamio basic? Each of these will then cost me some kind of subscription (lifetime or monthly). Should I look at some direct antenna feed to my PC? It would be nice to ultimately watch the recorded shows via my TiVo but I do have media players (Roku and WDTVLive) that I could use as well.

All input greatly appreciated!

Error: Streaming not Permitted

Thu, 11/28/2013 - 11:35
My tivo stream was working great until recently.
Now, I'm getting the following error inside the Tivo App: Streaming Not Permitted:Your Tivo DVR is not set up to allow streaming.

The stream apparently can see my DVR Premier on the network, because it will list all channels and shows downloaded onto the DVR. However, it will no longer stream or download. In fact the download icon is grayed out. When I access the settings menu inside tivo app, and press setup under streaming, I receive the following message: Streaming Not Permitted:Your Tivo DVR is not set up to allow streaming.

Here are the resolution steps that I have performed thus far.
Unplug power from Cable modem, router and stream then return power in the following order.
  • Cable modem - wait until all green lights
  • Router - wait 30 sec
  • Stream - I do currently have a solid white light

For the DVR - I have peformed two more steps.Entered the menu for settings, network, connect to tivo service and allowed the dvr to cycle through these connection settings.
Afterwards, restarted the Tivo DVR and I still receive the same error as above and still cannot download from DVR to Stream.

Tivo APP - I have deleted the app and reinstalled - still does same thing

Now, I'm frustrated so I place two calls to , Tivo and Grande Communications(my ISP provider)
Tivo rep basically told me the error that I'm receiving is new and not within the troubleshooting database. The rep had me perform a few troubleshooting steps, but the error remains.

I then called Grande and the rep on the phone explained that my tivo device should be working and there is nothing on their end that would prohibit my stream from streaming or downloading.

Personally, I think the recent update to the Tivo App could be the culprit OR my tivo stream has simply gone out. I purchased the stream back in 2011 and already had to take one back for being defective.

At this point , I'm really frustrated and sick and tired of trying to troubleshoot this stream. Does anyone out there have any advice you could throw my way?

Survivor - Gloves Come Off - OAD 11-27-13

Thu, 11/28/2013 - 11:07
Surprised I'm the first post. I can't understand why people forgo the immunity challenge for food, especially Tyson. He blew a chance at winning immunity, and ended up giving up his immunity idol away when he thought he was vulnerable. Ciera is the only one I could understand opting for food, as she stood no chance of winning.

The stream on roamio

Thu, 11/28/2013 - 09:29
Just found a neat webpage on the stream side of my Roamio Plus. http://<stream's IP address>:49152/sysinfo

I get a system temp along with some other info
Code: System Time:        Thu Nov 28 2013 09:27:38 GMT-0600 (CST)
Software Version:        19.1.3b-USB-6
Build Date:        Oct 1 2013-11:17:53
Network Address:
Hardware Address:        00:11:D9:XX:XX:XX
Serial Number:        848XXXXXXXXXXXX
Streaming State:        Ready
Transcode Status:        Idle (611636s)
System Power:        Standby (611030s)
System Temp:        43 C I'm curious if anyone might have found other nifty little seemingly undocumented features on the Roamio.

Lifetime SVR-2000 Series 1 with wired ethernet

Thu, 11/28/2013 - 08:34
Comes with lifetime service, wired ethernet card, upgraded hard drive. No remote included. Lifetime was purchased around 2005?

Does anyone want it? I don't see much of a market on ebay for them and don't want to deal with unhappy buyers who didn't understand the limitations of the Series 1. I'd be willing to let it go to anyone who will pay for shipping or pick it up in Manhattan, NYC.

Roamio as alternative to Plex / XBMC for movies?

Thu, 11/28/2013 - 08:30
I've been out of the loop for a while and am thinking about coming back to Plex. Right now I have a Windows Media Center PC w/XBox 360 as an extender. I also have Plex running on that WMC machine and use a nettop PC in the other room (running XBMC w/PleXBMC) for playing back high-bitrate Blu-ray rips, etc., that are stored on the main server.

I think the answer is "no" based on the searching I've done here, but I'm wondering if it's possible to have an all-in-one solution with a Roamio playing back my high-bitrate movies. What, if any, options are there and what are the pros/cons involved?

Is Netflix and Youtube better on Romeo?

Thu, 11/28/2013 - 08:07
I have a Tivo Premier and YouTube and Netflix is slow and unresponsive, is it better on the Romeo? If so I'll upgrade, just curious if it is better with new hardware.

TiVo Roamio remote finder

Thu, 11/28/2013 - 04:08
So, I'm trying to decide which Roamio to buy and I couldn't help but notice something on the TiVo website I hadn't noticed before. At https://tivo.com/shop/roamio it's saying that the base model Roamio includes the remote finder feature(there's a green dot in the comparison chart under DVR Features).

I'm confused though because everything else I've read on the internet(and even some stuff on these forums) seems to say that the only the Plus and Pro models feature the remote finder. In addition, TiVo's own pictures of the devices seem to show that the Plus and Pro have a little remote icon on the front and the base model only shows a circle without a remote icon.

Which one is right? Does the TiVo Roamio have the remote finder feature like the chart says? Or was that green circle on the chart put there in error?

going from premiere to roamio....

Help With Pixelation Issues

Wed, 11/27/2013 - 20:57
I have brand new roamio basic. It replaced a premier and was installed in same place, same connections, same cable card. Occasionally I have bad pixellation on all channels but after awhile it stops and can be fine for hours another time. Then it comes back for awhile. Did not have this problem with premiere. The fact that I don't have it all the time has me puzzled. Also I don't see people posting pixellation problems anymore except the Verizon thread and I have Comcast. Do I have a bad roamio that I should return or is there a fix?

Person of Interest - S3E10 - "The Devil's Share" - 11/26/2013

Wed, 11/27/2013 - 20:40
Really surprised that there's no thread yet as I thought that this episode was an A+ effort.
They really hit a grand slam with this episode.

Every note was perfect, from the opening with Bear at Reese's bedside, to Finch and Shaw at Carter's funeral (with Johnny Cash's Hurt playing), to the end with Elias' henchman strangling Simmons.

Gunnyman was right that unhinged Reese is very scary and I thought that most of the episode would be about Reese trying to get revenge.
Instead it turned out to be an excellent "team" show, with every cast member getting a chance to strut their acting chops and getting to contribute to the story.

As I hinted in the previous episode thread, I had suspected that it would be Fusco though that would actually pull the trigger on Simmons, especially after seeing the flashback of him in the Department Psychiatrist's office but the writers surprised me with Fusco declining to do so and bringing Simmons in instead.

And then they have Elias administer the coup de grace which I suppose was necessary because I suspect it was unlikely that the NY DA's office could successfully prosecute Simmons for Carter's murder.

The direction and cinematography were also outstanding this episode.
I especially like how the sequences at the funeral and the motel were shot.

It seriously baffles me as to why this show doesn't get more buzz and praise.
The last three episodes have been some of the best television I've seen in a while.

TiVoHD (w/Comcast) to Mini - What $$ changes?

Wed, 11/27/2013 - 20:30
I've looked at the similar threads, but as we all know, Comcast billing varies quite a bit from area to area. Since getting a Roamio (and selling one TiVoHD) I'm now really looking forward to getting rid of the second TiVoHD to get the performance and options available with a Roamio/Mini combination.

I'm trying to make sure I understand what fees from Comcast will change. I currently have one Roamio with CableCard, and one TiVoHD with CableCard. I have no other TV's.

I have the Comcast Xfinity HD Preferred XF bundle.

Fees that I think are in play include:

- Digital Add'l outlet Svc $9.25
- TiVo $1.00
- Cable Card Additional $0.00

Customer owned equipment adjustment - $2.50
Customer owned equipment adjustment - $2.50

So looking at that, what I -think- should happen is that I will return one CableCard, and the $9.25 fee will go away, and one of the $2.50 refunds will go away, for a net change of $6.25 in my favor.

I have no idea what the TiVo fee is - I haven't seen that before...

Thoughts? Is it worth it to try to walk through this with online chat with someone from Comcast?

Tivo premier XL Remote trouble

Wed, 11/27/2013 - 19:15
The remote on my tivo premier xl is very unreliable. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not do anything. The batteries are new. I have rebooted the tivo. Rebooting does help temporarily. I can control my tivo using the ipad app. That seems to always work, even when the remote does not. Any ideas?

channel accuracy?

Wed, 11/27/2013 - 17:23
Am I the only one, sometimes have to enter a channel several times to get there?
Example I press 623 it takes me to 104. Happens all the time channel numbers vary. Why is this, update fix possible?
I have 2 minis it happens on both.
