It's funny, they are dieing in the opposite order they were purchased.
First the Tivo HD died. I didn't feel too bad about this one as it was a 'cheap' retention purchase and I was paying the grandfather rates on it. I called Tivo and replaced it with a 2-tuner Premier with ATSC support.
Then the original 3 Lifetimed S3s all started dieing. #3 died when I moved. If I let it boot loop enough times it would come up and be stable. It eventually stopped coming up and got shelved. I'll fix it when i need it.
#2 just up and stopped outputting video all together. I replaced the power supply and couldn't get past the welcome screen. I swapped the 1TB upgrade HDD from #3 into it and it booted right up. Clear and delete - good to go.
#3 is just now starting flake out like #1 did. I suppose I should just order the power supply now and get it over with.
I suppose after 7 years of service I can't be too upset. I'm just curious if any others are starting to see the S3 hardware roll over.
I might have to break down and buy a base model Roamio with lifetime for some 4-tuner fun. I'm just not quite sure I'm ready to drop $700 for the privilege. Sadly this is less than I paid for each of my S3s before service .
The enter/last tivo remote function only seems to switch if watching live tv and does nothing (on my roamio - at least) when watching a recorded show.
Could kmttg be enhanced to test for currently playing a recorded show and remember a previous play (from the now playing list) and then have the enter remote key (on the remote tab), save the current show id and switch to the last saved playback show, if any, instead of just sending the enter key which doesn't do anything?
Then after having chosen play on any two shows, the enter key could flip back and forth between these two in one operation, continuing each where it left off previously.
I understand this can sort of be done now, but not in one click from the remote tab page.
Using WinMFS new HDD keeps recycling through "Almost There"
We recently re-subscribed to digital cable (and have a new Tuning Adapter with TW) after a few years of only having OTA channels. A few months after that my S3 HD TiVo (which had been solid as a rock) started acting up, claiming it didn't have all of its program info. So tonight, like an idiot, I re-ran guided setup while I researched the problem further.
And while guided setup took forever to complete, I read all about how the TA's keep the garbage collection from happening, and that all you have to do is leave the TA unplugged periodically to get everything working again, but you should never, ever run guided setup when you're in this state. Uh oh.
So, as you have probably guessed, guided setup failed with an S03 error. So now I think I'm hosed.
I tried all of the relevant kickstarts. 57, 54, 52. The last one I tried was 58, and after trying that one I am now stuck in a permanent GSOD reboot cycle. I am thinking I need to take some drastic action.
I did a bit of TiVo hacking with my old Series 1, but I was too lazy to do anything special with this HD. I even got the external WD expander drive when it came time to get more space, so I still have the stock drive in the unit. I have a lot of reading up to do on how the state of the TiVo hacking tools have changed over the past 8 years or so....
I don't think there is any way to save the recorded shows at this point, is there? From what I have read, my best bet may be to take a truncated backup of my current drive, wipe the drive, and then reapply the truncated backup. Then put my TA on a timer. :P
(I plan on checking for dodgy capacitors first, then doing some good scans of those drives, to make sure that they are still good.)
Any comments or suggestions on what to do next?
Was watching football this afternoon on the mini (connected to XL4 moca bridge) and it paused for a second and then the mini reset itself. When the mini came back up, it had the C130 issue and I have been unable to get it back on the MOCA network. Called TIVO and we power cycled everything (network, XL4, mini) and got nowhere.
The XL4 is able to make a service call and the internet connection (via ethernet) is very active. I'm not sure if the XL4 isn't doing its job creating the MOCA network or if the Mini isn't working. Anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions?
I have had a Roamio for about a month and twice in the last 2 or 3 weeks, I have turned on the TV/receiver and there is no sound coming from the speakers.
I tried restarting the receiver, switching back and forth between Dolby and PCM on the Tivo and still no sound.
The first time it happened I unplugged the Tivo and restarted it and that fixed it. This time I tried putting the Tivo in standby and the switching back to to live TV and the sound came back.
I don't want to have to keep doing that every few weeks. How can this be permanently fixed?
I'm referring to the categories I see when (on my Roamio Basic) I go to "TiVo Central->Find TV, Movies, & Videos->Browse TV & Movies->TV". I asked TiVo support about this and they said it wasn't possible with a stock TiVo, but that the members on the forums might have a solution.
I have Tivo Software 184.108.40.206a-01-2-746.
I can launch Netflix and see the titles but get the "This title is unavailable please try again later" message on every title I select.
Anyone seen this? Please help. I have never used netflix on this box before.
I got a new (second) Tivo RF remote for Christmas.
I have tried the procedures here:
I can not get the new (second) remote to pair to the Roamio. All button presses make red light on remote (IR mode).
I did a chat with TiVo support; they said only one RF pairing is possible per TiVo Roamio (I think this is incorrect).
BTW... When I try the CLEAR,ENTER,CLEAR,220,CLEAR in live TV mode, the first enter swaps channels. I never see or hear anything indicating pairing mode.
Is there a quality difference between streaming an Amazon show and downloading it to my Tivo Roamio Basic? For example, when I rent an Amazon movie I can either stream it immediately to my Blu-Ray player or I can choose to download it to my Tivo.
Is there any advantage to downloading a movie to my Tivo instead of just streaming it to my Blu-Ray player? The only advantage to downloading I can think of is that once its downloaded then I assume I don't need to worry about any Internet issues.
The downside to downloading is that it seems to introduce about a 20 minute delay before I can start watching vs watching immediately if I stream to my Blu-Ray player.
Downton Abbey is supposed to be starting up again on Jan. 5, but it's not showing up in my guide. It shows a special on Highclere Castle at 7:00, but at 8:00 instead of Masterpiece Classic, my guide is showing Doc Martin. Anyone else?
I have a Roamio Pro and have noticed several times where a suggestion is being recorded and when I return to my suggestions the recording is gone and didn't finish. It's not a signal issue, so unless TiVo has decided to stop recording because of a higher priority, I'm at a loss. With six tuners that has rarely been an issue. I checked the history log unfortunately suggestions are not included there...
Anyone else notice this?
I just got done watching the finale. Overall, I was satisfied with the way it ended. Amanda got what she deserved, and it was a relatively happy ending to an often dark show. I have to admit, they had me fooled. I was pretty darn shocked when they revealed that the whole thing was all a ruse to lure in Amanda.
I don't think the series ever lived up to the great start it had out of the gate the first season, but I still enjoyed it right up to the end. I'll definitely miss seeing hot little Alex running around kicking ass. :)
I have had numerous TiVo's for as many years as I can remember and never have I had problems like I do with my new Roamio. I constantly lose HD channels, with a message stating they are not authorized by my cable company. These are standard channels that I have always had and that work fine on my old Series 2 box. Comcast has been here and said that the problem is not theirs and I have spent hours on the phone with TiVo tech support and they say it's not on their end either.
At least three times a week I have to reboot the box and suddenly all my channels are working fine again. It also freezes up and reboots itself. Thanksgiving night alone it did it 4 times in a matter of an hour.
So, what do I need to do to fix this problem? Do I just have a faulty device?
Tivo owners are being held back by the lack of a built in UVVU streaming service. I thought it would come with the new hardware, but so far it it's a no show. I do almost all of my movie watching through UVVU streamers (mostly VUDU on my ps3). I'd love to watch my movies mor conveniently through my TiVo's. Thi is a big issue for my family's entertainment. With the improvements Roku has made with the Roku 3, I may switch to them if tivo doesn't add UVVU streaming soon. Please add UVVU streaming now!(or at least tell us if/when it is coming)
I'm looking to put home movies on my Tivo for my family to watch. PC -> DVR They're not tech savvy so it has to be transferred onto the Tivo (not streamed) and look like any other video. Videora does this but only supports SD, 720x480 max. I've been reading forums for hours and going cross eyed.
What I've done so far... 1) I converted some videos to MPEG2 (Avidemux/ffmpeg) and transferred them to the Tivo with Tivo Desktop but (I'm assuming) because they didn't have the proper Tivo formatting, I don't have the ability to fast forward or reverse them. 2) I used Videora Tivo Converter and gained the ability to FF and REV but lost quality.
I've heard that kmttg is good at pulling video off Tivo and pyTivo is good at putting them on Tivo but I read a description that pyTivo streams video which I don't want. And, of course, there is always Tivo Desktop Plus but I don't know if it supports HD (1280×720 is good enough) and don't want to pay $15 to see or find out some other limitation that's annoying.
I have TWC digital channel lineup for Austin and I don't know how to access my HBO on demand channel (I do have all the HBO channels).
Is there a secret to accessing this, or any, 'on demand' channels in the lineup?
I just received a Roamio after posting up a thread here earlier. I have the new box up but need to get service. I have lifetime on the series 3 box I purchased from Costco a few years ago and am trying to figure my best path towards Lifetime on the Roamio. Is it 399 for existing subscribers? Do I sign up for monthly then call back a couple months later to find a deal on lifetime?
Restart question for Tivo Series 2:
My Tivo is suddenly so fuzzy, I can barely see anything. (It's not the TV. The TV looks fine with the Xbox or the DVD player)
I'm trying to restart, but I can't even read the on-screen menus. I got to the part where I chose "restart" but I can't read the next screen. One site said that the next step is pressing the thumbs-down button three times, then enter, but that isn't working.
It looks like 2 lines of text, and the first word seems to be "Warning."
I want to get a Tivo Roamio, but I am curious if there is a way to get the cable card at a Verizon store or if they still require a truck to roll. Anyone have any experiences with what they had to do?
