I've seen a few new user threads so I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring - hope I'm not breaking any protocols. Anyway, I've found answers to most of my questions, but more generally, it sounds like when signing up for service you can choose between monthly and lifetime.
My question is can you switch from monthly over to a lifetime later on if you want? I'm a cord cutter, going to OTA only, and I want to try it out for awhile first. But I'm pretty sure I'll like it and want to get a lifetime. Just wondering if that's allowed?
Also, I'm not sure if there's an active code for lifetime out there that works right now, but if there is does it make a difference if you try to use it as a new customer versus an existing one switching to lifetime?
Visted my local Staples today, picked up two 2tb Western Digital My Book Essential external drives for $71 each. According to what I can find online they have They have WD green 64mb cache drives in them, I believe the drive model is WD20EARS but I haven't torn mine apart yet as I'm using them for their intended purpose as external drives to do PC data backup.
$71 appears to good esp considering you are getting a USB 3.0 external drive interface, note that the shelf price was higher and it wasn't until they pulled the drive from the back room, brought to the cash register and scanned it did it ring up at $71. This might be a fluke as I can't find this listed on Staples website for this cheap. I wasn't using any discount card or anything, I was tempted to buy the 3tb external but 2tb was all I need right now.
Btw they also have 4tb drives but they may not have WD drives in them, the 3tb versions are reported to have WD drives.
Note, the external drive has WD encryption, it may need to be low level formatted before using in your Tivo esp if you use it externally first, per online reports it appears no one can access data after installing it in their normal desktop PC using SATA.
Every time I try to log in to Tivo.com to view my account, find shows, etc. the site is terribly SLOW. I'm on a high-speed connection and just tried to log in - 5 minutes so far and still not logged in.
It has been this way for as long as I can remember, so much so that I rarely even bother to go to the site any more as it is worthless.
NO excuse with technology today that Tivo cannot upgrade to faster servers or FIX these issues!!
Tonight I see that my Roamio Pro will be using all tuners to record 6 intentional shows at once (no padding in the picture). Previously with such busy recording nights I would have to do juggle things around between 2 or 3 TiVos to get rid of conflicts. It's so nice now not to have to worry about it anymore. I'm sure the day will come when there will be 7 recordings at a time in which case I can employ my series 4 units if needed, but so far I haven't reached that point.
I currently have 2 Premiere's each with a TWC cable card and tuning adapter. I'm replacing them with a Roamio and a mini. I'm curious what my best bet is for moving the cable card. Should I put it in the Roamio, run the guided setup and then call TWC support?
From TiVo's lastest earnings press release
"We are also pleased that Comcast has committed to expanding our
successful integration of Xfinity On Demand to their entire
footprint. This integration on the Roamio and Premiere platforms has
been an important one for us, as the robust Xfinity library,
along-side traditional TV channels and web content delivers a
one-stop shop for home entertainment. Market-by-market rollouts are
occurring now, with full scale deployment in all U.S. markets --
including Chicago, Atlanta and Houston -- expected to be complete by
June 30, 2014."
While it's not "Must See TV" for me, I do like to watch this show.
Anyway, The premier episode for this season was very entertaining. I won't spoil it right out of the gate just in case there are those that still want to watch it (unspoiled).
The new co-host is nice too.
I need to get if possible a longer AC Adapter for my Tivo Mini. The position of my TV is about 15 feet away from an outlet (older home) where the Tivo can be installed.
Anyone know of a place to locate a longer AC Adapter?
I've upgraded to a new TiVo Roamio and have two TiVo HD units for sale. Both have been upgraded with 1TB hard drives (giving around 160 hours of HD recording) and both have lifetime TiVo service contracts. They are six years old and are in great condition. The original remotes were never used (I use a Harmony remote) so they are essentially in new condition, and I will include the original 160GB hard drives.
Asking $225 each. Send me a note via PM if you are interested.
If you have a Tivo under a service contract, can you exchange it for a similer or different model?
For example I have a 2 tuner Premiere with a few months remaining in a 2 year contract, if I buy a used 4 tuner Premiere or Roamio, will Tivo let me change the upgraded model to finish up the term of the service commitment? Key being the newer Tivo will used not new, I understand a new unsubscribed Tivo requires a new commitment or lifetime service?
Since I'm tied into the commitment, I figure I might as well use the full capacity with a Tivo with more tuners if all possible since I'm paying a monthly fee for it and the cable card. Once it's contract is done, it will be replaced with a mini.
It has been slow on the forum lately so I thought I would find the most first world problem possible to complain about!!!!
I keep my TiVo in a cabinet and the RF remote has allowed me to move away from the finicky RF repeater setup I was using. And that is awesome!
The bad? I keep accidentally hitting buttons! :) You could put the old IR remote next to you in the chair and if you bump up against it or even sit on it - the TiVo wouldn't register the key press. The RF signal has no problem making it's way from under my butt!
Why can't TiVo develop a butt press protocol to determine when my fat backside is inadvertently trying to change the channel!
(For those who may be unfamiliar, This is sarcasm)
I have a Premier Q and a Mini. Both are behind walls and require RF. I have one Slide Pro on order and want to use my Harmony 900 RF for the other Tivo. Right now any button pressed on my Harmony will be received by both Tivos. When my Slide Pro arrives and I pair it with my Mini, will that Mini no longer receive commands from the Harmony? Will the Slide Pro also not affect the Premier Q that I want to only receive instructions from the Harmony? In other words, will the pairing of the Slide Pro with the Mini make the Slide Pro and the Mini EXCLUSIVE?
On Sunday, 2/16, I searched for "Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon", but I couldn't find it using the normal "Search". So I then did a "Find by Channel". There, I found TSSJF, with the first episode Monday 2/17 at midnight (well, actually Tuesday 2/18 since it was midnight) and created a season pass. I'm pretty sure I then checked and saw it on the ToDo list. Tuesday evening, I couldn't find the first episode. There was nothing in the History about it at all. The ToDo list showed upcoming episodes, as expected.
Last evening, 2/25, I did a search for the new "Mind Games", but I couldn't find it via "Search". So again, I did a "Find by Channel" and created a season pass. Again, I think it was on the ToDo list for last night. Today, it's not there and there's nothing about it in History. The 3/4 episode is on the ToDo list.
I've never had issues like this with any of my previous Tivos.
Been reading all the info about Tivo, and just purchased the Roamio Plus, and two mini's.The help that Ive seen for others on here, has been outstanding. So far, we are really enjoying it. I do have a question-
One of the Mini's is being connected to a HDTV that does not have HDMI. I had to order the breakout cable from Tivo. The green, blue, and red outputs from the TV, gets connected to the breakout cable, and then to the component jack on the mini? Do I need to hook the red/white cables into the A/V jack as well?
Sorry if this a real basic question, but Im not that tech savvy.
I replaced my DTV TiVo yesterday with a new Genie (HR44) and being new to it, I had a few questions.
1. Should I leave the Genie on or off when not in use?
2. Is there a way to bring up the scrub bar w/o hitting the "play-pause" button? When I press it, it pauses the program and I just want to see how far I'm into the recording w/o pausing it.
3. I have a Harmony One and was wondering if I can use it to turn the Genie on and off, or can I program the Genie's remote to turn on and off my Sony AV Receiver, my Samsung TV and the Genie at the same time?
4. When I set up my Series recordings, I used "First Run" only, but I'm getting recordings of shows that clearly show the dates as 2010, 2011, 2012, etc. What am I doing wrong?
That's all I can think of right now. I really like the unit so far. Just got to get used to it. Thanks in advance. Cheers!!
I have been seeing and hearing a lot about these new TV sets and was curious if the Tivo units will work with them. I assume the cable providers need to supply the signal and will Tivo just pass it through or will we have to get a different TiVo unit down the road?
Boys still fighting. Yay.
I felt so bad for Linda Tran. Held like that for a year? Really? Now are we going to find out why or are the boys just going to continue to be new BFF with Crowley? I'm betting not if Sam has any say in it.
Kevin being the ghost we all probably saw coming but I did get a bit misty at the end when he said "my mom's taking home a ghost, you two, you're both still here." but I was annoyed that Sam promised and then 30 seconds later stomped off to his room. Ugh. Don't get me wrong, I think Sam is fully entitled to being upset but we know it can't last so have them do whatever they need to do to get over it. I think maybe he's STILL waiting on Dean to apologize and accept that he was wrong. Except Dean isn't going to do that because he's not sorry and doesn't think he was wrong. Round and round we go.
The angel storyline is going somewhere finally. I was surprised to see Bartholomew kick it that easily. I thought for sure he'd be around until the end. So now Cas is the new angel faction leader huh? Now to find Metatron and fix heaven so poor Kev can go have his.
TW is about to change their lineup in my area on Sat. March 1st. I'm new to Tivo and just got my Roamio with 2 minis installed on Monday. Will the Tivo recognize the change and adjust my season passes or will I have to do that manually??
Thx in advance.
While the newer boxes support NETFLIX can I suggest adding UltraViolet (aka: VUDU / CinemaNow / Flixster / Target Ticket) app to the system to stream these cloud based movies??
