roamio / iphone5s on ios 7 here (wont go to ios8 until its out a while)
my questions pertains to being out of the home network
it wont stream over a cell connection is this correct, i thought i saw other posts where it does? can i maybe use my cell as a hotspot and have an ipad tether to it? would this fool it into thinking its a wifi connection?
overall i find this app so buggy out of the home network even over a fast optimum connection, constant unexpected problem / restart etc and bad image quality etc, massively dissapointing overall for a great idea executed very badly
any and all help appreciated especially by the Tivo folks themselves
Placeholder thread in a desperate attempt to avoid a season thread. :-)
I've got an extremely slow wi-fi connection where I live. However, it is provided free of charge by the home owner's association. Currently I do have my TiVo connected to it. It downloads data without an issue. However, when accessing Netflix, I dare only view shows in SD...and even then, the shows freeze up several times.
Can I use my iPhone's personal hotspot as my TiVo's wi-fi connection for faster Internet speeds and possible viewing of HD Netflix shows?
Nice to have this program back. Finally caught up on episode 1 of the season. Forgot that Jake had gone undercover at the end of last season.
Some good laughs from Jake and his deadpan boss :)
Well, I think I've got most everyone beat. I finally upgraded to a Tivo Roamio from my Series 1 after the modem...I repeat, the MODEM failed. The HD is still spinning like a champ! I swear it needs to go into some kind of longevity hall of fame! I will most likely remove it from the unit and frame the thing. I think in all those years it was "off" for less than a few months all told.
I got my money's worth out of that lifetime sub for sure. I doubt it will happen again as the new HDs spin way too fast to last longer than a few years. (I think, right?). Does the Roamio even have a mechanical HD? I'm out of the loop on SA Tivos. Can't wait to have fun setting up the new box!
Oh and what's the deal with only the lowest version having OTA capability? These cable ******bags aren't even trying to be sneaky anymore...getting cocky.
Well, I was a tad disappointed that this wasn't an episode about nuclear submarines but Nautilus delivered by moving more story elements into place and opening some interesting plot points.
What started out as a fairly routine number turns into something much more.
I had initially thought that Claire might be recruited by the Machine by the end of the episode due to her skill set, but I didn't initially see the Samaritan angle.
Once Harold stated that the contest emails seemed to come out of nowhere, my mind went racing with the thought, "Did The Machine create this contest or did Samaritan?".
This episode again pointed out that Samaritan is also eliminating anyone who may come up with a competing AI so this may be a war that only our crew can battle.
I suspect that we haven't seen the last of Claire though.
Not sure if she'll become Greer's right hand or Samaritan's analog interface.
I was ready to buy a new Tivo, but was wondering what the normal cycle of new models was. Seems like the Roamio has been out a while and a newer model might be coming soon.
Any ideas? Is it about 2 years between new models?
I bought a Tivo HD about a month before the Premiere came out, so I know what it is like to get burned by an new model.
I have 3 Premiere's in my home on a wired network.
If I purchase one Stream box and connect to the network, will I be able to stream content from any of the 3 Premiere boxes? Or just one?
Please help. Thanks.
I know this was a problem on the S3HD units but hadn't heard of it as a problem on Premieres. My XL4 box suddenly lost the HDMI output completely. No storms, everything on surge protector, etc. Component and composite outputs work fine. Tried other cables, TV inputs, etc. The firmware update was about a week ago but I didn't have a problem until yesterday so I'm discounting that as the cause. Anyone else seen this issue?
I'm don't usually watch romantic comedy, but I'm a fan of both Karen and John.
Overall, I liked it, especially with the very modern techie vocabulary.
They do need to tone it down a little, like the on-the-lips kiss with the boss in front of everyone. I can understand Eliza can be over-the-top, but the boss of a major company?
Yesterday, XFinity had an area-wide outage. After service came back, our Tivo Series 3 started showing "Lost Signal".
The XFinity cable box was receiving signal just fine, so I pulled it off of its coax and stuck it onto the one the Tivo is on. It (the XFinity box) received signal fine there as well.
The Tivo runs off a splitter that also goes to the phone/internet router, so I took the splitter out of the sequence (temporarily removing our phone/internet access), and the Tivo ran fine that way.
The Tivo was working fine before the outage/restoration. So it seems to me that the restoration may have resulted in our getting a less strong signal than before the outage, such that half the signal (i.e. post-splitter) is not enough for the Tivo.
Questions I'm hoping someone here can answer:
- Am I understanding things correctly?
- How much signal does the Series 3 need?
- I might be able to move the phone/internet router to another coax outlet, taking that splitter out of the mix, but if not, what can I do to boost the signal the Tivo is receiving?
Could this be next on the roadmap ?
What can i do to get my Tivo Roamio and Tivo Desktop Plus to transfer video from my PC to my Tivo? It works very sporadically, and I can't seem to find the key to making it work automatically. Some files transfer, while some go undetected no matter what I do. It's one of my favorite Tivo features, but it doesn't do me any good if I can't make it work. ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED!!
I haven't watched yet, but thought I'd get the party started. Please carry on without me and I'll be back after I've viewed.
Hi All, I just purchased a Roamio Pro from Amazon for $498 but have not activated yet. This is my first Tivo. I also want to buy 3 minis that hopefully will work with the Cat 5 cable running to every cable outlet in the house.
My need now is how to get best price for Lifetime Subscription? If savings are significant I can return the Pro back to Amazon as I have Prime and buy a Pro with Lifetime included somewhere else that is very reliable.
As for the Minis, I am hearing there are some changes coming which will be introduced at the CES in January but I'm not sure what they are. Does anyone have knowledge of the changes?
If changes are not needed by me, where would be best place to buy the Minis now?
Thanks in advance
After the Fall Update I chose the Season Pass option to record all shows. However, the Tivo chooses the SD version when there isn't an HD channel available (I live between two markets where one market only has a SD version). Is there a way to ignore the SD channel?
Also, when I set up a Season Pass and I choose the option to 'Keep until I delete' the Tivo still schedules to delete them. When I select the show it allows me to extend the length of time to keep it, but it only allows me to extend it for two weeks even when I delete a lot of old shows. Is there a way to change it back to 'Keep until I delete'? Thanks.
Wow, I'm confused about a lot with this show. If Coulson is the director now, what is Nick Fury? And where?
What's the deal with Coulson having to carve the alien symbols? Can't he just use chalk?
What's the deal with Talbot? He's got his panties all in a twist, when he should just realize that Coulson and his kids are the good guys.
There's more, but it can wait.
Whoa, did not see that coming! I can't believe they would do that.
Anyone else having the following issue on unrooted devices?
If i connect to wifi and run streaming setup (In Home and Out of Home) it completes successfully, and i am able to stream shows.
if i then turn off wifi and enable cellular streaming, then try to watch a show on the phone, i get this error:
If i run setup again it fails with this error:
This happened on my phone (A 2013 Moto X Unrooted, Unlocked Bootloader) and my wife's phone (Samsung Galaxy S4 Stock)
