Poll coming... stemmed from the update thread.
Some comments in the update thread got me to wondering how widespread the use of KUID is.
I think KUID use is in the minority, but I'm willing to concede if I am wrong, hence the poll.
Anybody else still watching Vikings? This has become one of my favorite shows now.
It'll be interesting to see how the Ragnar-Horik-Jarl Borg drama plays out.
So I figured a speculation thread might be fun so we wouldn't need to worry about cluttering up individual episode threads.
Past episode spoilers and the upcoming episode year spoilers are cool. I'd like to keep spoilers from other sites off limits, though. Still, I figure we can use this thread all season, so there will be ongoing spoilers as the season progresses.
So, through the fourth episode so far, we have three known resurrected/clones with a possible fourth one. I think the doctor's mom is alive and living with the guy she had an affair with. Otherwise his response to the doc seemed really odd. However the writers seem to be holding off on that storyline for a while.
I think there is something much bigger happening. I think that each of the resurrected have a part to play, but also have their own desires that they can't tamp down. The letter in Caleb's pocket seems to indicate that they were closed or copied somehow. It can't be time travel because the letter was added at his funeral, not his death. However, he had to have been copied before he was cremated.
I wonder if the increased metabolism and eating is the body's attempt to age itself to its chronological age.
I'm contemplating getting a Roamio Plus and as many as two Minis. We have three adult viewers in the house. Each has quite different viewing tastes. Is it possible to arrange recorded shows in a manner so that each person's recorded programs fall under a unique heading for convenience?

If you were expecting your TiVo to record the next to last Rake episode tonight, Friday, April 4th, 2014, and the last one next Friday, it may think it did record tonight's episode.
Except what Fox ran, and what had already made it into the update guide data, was a Kichen Nightmares re-run.
My S2 DT has recording it has labeled as Rake that it just finished making.
But during the recording the guide had KN listed and hitting the info button brought up an overlay that said KN and offered me the option of stopping recording.
But in the NPL it's calling it Rake.
So, your season pass may think it's already recorded episode 112, Remembrance of Taxis Past, which is really RoTP, pt 1, with part 2 originally scheduled for a week from tonight.
Instead, they're going to run both parts tomorrow night, Saturday, April 5th, 2014, in a 2 hour block, which the TiVo guide data also sees as episode 112.
So don't count on your season pass to get this one right.
So can we say that Cox ondemand via Tivo is not going to be released? anyone hear any info?
I've got a few. I just saw a rerun of one of my favorites.
From Criminal Minds, Prentiss is taking about her cat, Sergio, whom she passed off as her new boyfriend, when talking to her therapist. She says to Hotch, "He is the perfect man. He doesn't hog the covers, and he poops in a box."
There are too many from Firefly for me to just them all.
So what are your favorite lines?
I'm certain this has been asked numerous times before. I'm a long time TIVO user (when I rejoined last night it seems 2003 was my last log-in) going back to S-Video days and left with the advent of COX upgrades. My bill went up $12 this month so my son called (same name as mine) to get information. It seems that they gave us a discount last fall and next month it's ending; next month our bill will go up another $30. We've gone through the bill with a fine tooth comb and all we can pull off is long distance so I'm coming back to see what advantage there is with the new TIVO set up.
I realize this probably has been asked before so all I need is a pointer to where I can see an explanation how TIVO fits in with COX. I assume the crux of this is the DVRs being replaced with a TIVO and some sort of cable card; any other hardware..costs? Cox seems to have all sorts of piddling charges in that part of the bill...sort of like the real estate industry which adds all sorts of charges when you buy a house....turns out you can't get out from any of the charges. I'd appreciate any explanation of what I can and can't do to move to Roamio (or whatever) and away from this money sink.
I should explain. I'm a fairly experienced HT user with an Integra DTR 40.3 receiver, three HD digital Cisco boxes, 104" projection screen in the family room, OPPO DVD player, Mac Mini HTC, ROKU and 1x4 splitters feeding the entire house. I've been doing this for over 25 years now moving from RG6 cabling and Radio Shack gizmos to HDMI. I also use iRule on my Android tablets and Samsung Galaxy phone to control everything through wireless and a network device which send out ir signals to the head units. Lots of fun to keep a 72 year old geezer from slowing down.
Josh Groban playing a jingle writer cracks me up.
edit: yep, need at least one lower case leter to avoid the auto conversion to lowercase.
Hi all, I'm new to these forums so I'm hoping someone with expertise can give me a solution....
I bought a Tivo Prem HD off ebay with lifetime sub. Units looks fine (virtually mint), came with everything and had obviously been cared for.
I got a new card from TWC socal. Went through setup, called tech, card would not pair, and I was getting the dreaded Acquiring Channel Data 75% hang.
I went through everything I could with tech support on the phone, card wouldn't pair.
Waited 10 days for a truck roll for a M card specialist and he tried 5 cards. Only two of them would pair but none would validate. These cards were from at least 2 batches and one of them he had working earlier in the day at another call.
After nearly two hours, the engineer and the tech he was on the phone to decided to give up as they'd exhausted all options.
As he's packing up, bang! We suddenly get channels, and no more hang on the aquiring channel data
Here's where it get's really strange:
The card is not validated - I have ?x083 next to the V:
They told me that's not possible; no validation, no channels.
....but one problem remains: the guide is wrong for about 40% of the channels which completely negates the main function of the Tivo.
Can anyone think of other possible solutions? I am using this with a TA, but I've also tried going direct and it didn't make a difference.
I've been a long-time TiVo user - my first TiVo was a Series 1, and I've had several Series 2 boxes, and most recently, a TiVoHD. Just finally bit the bullet and bought a Roamio Plus. Got it set up and have been exploring. Looks like it might have a lot of neat features. For example, I discovered in the Opera store I could play "on demand" a bunch of the 1960's Speed Racer cartoons - really cool to a kid who grew up in the 80's... I found out while researching the Roamio that I could activate an MLB.tv subscription on it so I could watch the Chicago Cubs everyday - a great thing for this native of Chicago who now lives in Ohio.
What other features should I know about?
Is it possible to use any of the "on-demand" free channels that Time Warner offers (and show up in my list of channels) or do I need a "true" cablebox from them to be able to see those?
Any help in using our new Roamio to its full potential is appreciated!
So I got a new Romeo Plus and set everything up with streaming and it worked perfectly inside and outside of the home. After a week the Tivo died (no lights or anything) I got a replacement from Tivo but now I am having trouble getting streaming outside of the home to work.
I have gone through everything I can think of. Nothing has changed from a network perspective. It allows me to setup streaming via the app and it says it was successful. Inside the home it works great but outside it says "There was a problem connecting to your streaming device"
Rebooted it. Looked at the Stream status page <ip adress>:49152/sysinfo and restarted that. Clicking on "Reset Clients" but won't do anything (it says 2/12). Proxy is enabled and GLIDE Tunnel status is "Not Initalized"
The only thing that might be causing the issue is the fact that both the old dead tivo and the new tivo are still listed as a streaming source in the App. It's not however listed at tivo.com so I'm not sure how to get rid of it. I did a reset on the application.
I'm not sure what else I can check. Does anyone have any ideas?
I will sometimes watch a baseball game from the recorded shows while it is still recording. I then pause, go out of recorded shows and come back to the game later. Many times it will lose the paused point--there will be no "resume" option. This never happened on my XL4.
Are these still in use out there? I am currently using one, I got it on ebay a couple ofyears ago,and I like it just fine.... but I have a question- recently some of my OTA channels 'shrank'- with grey sides boxing in the picture.... it wasn't the tv settings (aspect ratio) so I checked in the tivo settings, and by choosing 'full screen' it was made larger again ( I have a small tv) Is this a sign of something bad happening to my older, but much loved Tivo series 2?

Sheldon [running to bathroom]: Here come the waterworks!
Leonard: Aren't you gonna ask?
Penny: What is this, my first day?
I feel like soon after the spontaneous reboot issue was fixed (which had been affecting me) that this one came along. In the last few weeks there have been two occasions where signal on the cable cards just craps out and I have to reboot to get all channels back. As soon as I reboot all is fine again. All shows recorded during the affected time are mostly black screen with some blockiness and basically stop after 75% of garbage recording (like the tivo gives up or something). I had a similar problem back in September and I ended up replacing my years-old cable card and it fixed the issue until now. One major difference is that, with that prior problem, the tivo would delete the garbage recording after trying to record it rather than keep the 75% garbage around so it was a bit easier to notice a problem. I don't use a tuning adapter or anything like that.
I've been a loyal tivo owner for over 10 years and I seriously love my tivo but I've had 3 problems with my premiere xl4 that I've owned for only one year so it's shaking my confidence in the brand, I have to admit. My previous boxes had ZERO issues over the years. I feel like I have to check my live tv once a day now to make sure the thing is still working. I never lost a recording before my premiere box and now I've lost several and that makes me extremely disappointed. I would have rather kept the spontaneous reboot issue, to be honest.
I don't watch a ton of tv, but the things I do watch don't tend to have a lot of re-runs or if they do, I don't catch it in time because I don't watch tv every day. I'm just not sure what to do now. I could maybe replace the cards yet again, but without a root cause I'm not confident it wouldn't just crop up again and cause the tivo to let me down in the future.
Anyone have ideas as to what the issue could be or diagnostics I could perform?
Can someone please explain why TiVo is so slow? Takes more time to do anything on TiVo. I have experience with most TiVos from the first HD TiVo with the single stream cards up to the latest Pace 6 tuner DCT running TiVo firmware. To my surprise it too is slow. I have never used TiVo Roamio.
Minis are even slower! That is if I can get them to work without getting the V70 error message.
