I have an OTA waiting for me at BestBuy, because Tivo support told me they are compatible. Margret Schmidt ( Tivo VP ) tweeted that they are not.
I have replied to both CS and Margret asking for clarification.
Has anyone actually tried a Mini with an OTA? I would rather not make two trips to BestBuy!
My series 2 Tivo is on its way out I am told. It keeps freezing while watching TV. So, I ordered the Roamio at Amazon...got it, loved the easy set up...and then the TV would not find it...All inputs kept saying that there is no signal and to check that the external device is plugged in. I tried everything...switching cables, even bought a new hdmi cable to see if it was that...same issue...removed the splitter and everything else, so it was just the new device and the tv and wi-fi...nothing. I called Tivo and the guy seemed uncertain. When he found out that I bought it a Amazon, he said, I should call them and return it as it's probably faulty.
Any idea what I am missing...the TV is only 2 years old...HD Plasma, and everything else works on it...It can find the DVD player, the regular cable when hooked up, the old Tivo, and also chromecast...just can't find the new TIVO. :(
Please advise before I send back the new Tivo...thanks.

Are there any Toshiba RS-TX20 Tivo units that Do NOT have lifetime basic service? I bought my Toshiba single tuner unit a few years ago (used, via ebay) and I have been using it for the past year or more with the basic service: three day max program listing; Recording any program during the three day window, etc.
I read about the tivo desktop and installed it on my PC, but I couldn't get it to work. After a couple days searching, I spent a while talking to Tivo customer support (two people on the phone and one chat) and they claim that my unit does NOT have lifetime basic service and the previous owner had paid monthly until he discontinued service (and sold the unit). The Tivo website and the CS rep. both insist that I must pay $12 something a month to activate my Toshiba, but it seems pretty activated to me--at least for basic service.
So, is it possible that my Toshiba is a "non lifetime basic service" unit that somehow has been receiving what looks like basic service, or is this a problem with the Tivo database, or just a misunderstanding?
Oh, my System Information screen on the Toshiba says it is "Series 2" but the CS rep insisted it was a "series 1"
Does anyone know how the cablecard negotiates with the motorola server and delivers content? My question arises with trouble pairing a cablecard and was wondering how this works.
I have a Tivo 24004A with a blown power supply.
Any idea where I can get a replacement?
Weaknees wants a fortune for this(approx $69). I am hoping to pay $25 delivered to Dallas.
I subscribe to a survey group here in Dallas. They send emails with surveys that are coming up, and list things they are looking for to see if you qualify. I've never qualified, or never got a email back if I did.
A few weeks ago I get one in the mail with 3 different groups they are doing
1- men over 18 who wash/wax their own cars
2- men over 18 who shampoo ( ?)
3- men something about lawn care.
I answered back for all 3 groups.
last week I get a call saying I was possibly in group for the Car wash.
They asked me more questions, like Have I ever heard of Meguiers, Armorall turtle wax etc... Said yes of course..
Also asked how important a named brand was. Told them Very! I'm not going to put something I haven't read about on car.
So she said I was accepted, and to expect some samples in the mail, and they want me to use the samples, then come to the meeting and discuss with others who also used them ( they pay $200.00).
So these are the samples,4-5 each of Car Wash, Car Wax, Car Detail, and Tire Dressing. All just letters and numbers so I don't know what brand they are. but they want me to:
Use Wash 1A on hood
use wash 2a on left panel
use wash 3a on right panel
use tire dressing 1a on left front
use tire dressing 2a on left rear
So yes all samples all at same time. And to bring in car because group is going to go out and see everyone's car. ( 5 samples of car wash at same time gonna be a PITA)
Also has 2 pages of questions on each for me to fill out before meeting.
I'm thinking do I want to do this to my car? ( 13 Optima)They wouldn't send like dish detergent for the car wash.. etc. But it is $200.00 and I could always put that toward a professional detail ( grin)
I hope they tell us afterwards what brands they were, in case some are really great, or not so great and stay away from....
Would you do it to your car?
I purchased a new roamio and tried to pair an exisitng cablecard to the roamio. I kept getting the activation screen occasionally and NO on demand features working.
Here is the sequence of events.
1. Try activation and pairing a couple times by calling activation line at comcast. After a couple tries, pairing successful, BUT still no on demand and activation screen popping up on occasion.
2. went to get new cablecard. Tried pairing and pairing successful. still get activation screen on occasion and on demand will work for 5 SECONDS and then freeze.
3. call activation line and repeat activation. Pairing then lost on card.
4. get another card, same deal, now NO on demand.
5. after trying to activate a second time, activation person at comcast sets up appt with a tech.
6. try to get another card at store and same result.
7. Let tech come out and everything working within 5 minutes. The problem was that the billing code and outlet assigned to the card was wrong. After fixing this on their motorola server, everything works great.
MORAL of the story,
Don't trust that a card that you pick up from the store is coded correctly to work. The customer service reps in the store have no training with cablecards nor how they operate. If you have activation issues, don't waste time like I did. HAVE activation line set up a trouble appt for a tech to come out and they can then talk with a knowledgeable dispatcher on their end to straighten it out. I had customer service reps tell me that the problem was with TIVO and I did not fall for this, nor should you.
In ending, if you have trouble with activation or freezing on demand, have a tech come out and fix it.
Somebody's Gotta Do It
In each episode, Rowe visits unique individuals: innovators, do-gooders, entrepreneurs and collectors who simply have to do it. This show is about passion, purpose and, occasionally, hobbies that get a little out of hand. Premieres on Wednesday 10/8 at 9PM ET/PT on CNN, CH: 202.
Hi. I logged into my account on Tivo.com and I see a lot about the Fall season. I have Roamio OTA. Is there a way to auto record "all" new shows premiering this season from the major networks OTA?
Hello all. I researched a bit and fortunately found this place before placing my order for a Roamio and a Mini using a code from eBay. Saved a bunch and pulled the trigger on the lifetime subscription! I currently have Fios and making this move I will break even in just under 2 years.
My question is a simple one. Suppose at the end of my contract with Fios, I decide to switch over to Comcast. Will I still have access to my recorded material or is it married to the cable card? I'm hoping it's still accessible, as this will allow me to more easily pit Comcast vs Verizon for the best deal!
Thanks in advance!
It has only 1 jack for video and 1 jack for audio(not the normal RCA jacks)
Are any users having problems with Tapatalk currently? I had caught wind of something like this, but tested it today on my iPad and had no issues at all.
Please let me know, and if so, the device model and version of OS it's running will be helpful for us!
SHORT VERSION: We thought we had an issue with our tuning adapter (TA), as we lost some channels after Charter in our area went 100% digital. During a visit from Charter, the channels came in (along with all our other channels) when the TA was either not locked in or completely disconnected from the Tivo, but we lost them when connected and locked in. I'm speculating that with a new software update from Tivo and a 100% digital signal from Charter, we don't need the tuning adapter anymore! One less thing to worry about! :D
LONG VERSION: We have been victims of a number of tuning adapter (and some cable card) nightmares with Charter over the last few years. The most recent one was generated when Charter went 100% digital in our area. The letter we got saying that they were going all digital and that we would need cable boxes for our other TVs (great.) indicated that the switch would happen the week before we went on vacation.
The digital conversion happened and while our TA stayed locked in, we lost a bunch of channels. We repeated the guided set up to get all the channels in the right place, since some moved, but even after doing that, we were missing about 16 channels, including some key ones (Bravo! Food Network!). Since Charter is unable to schedule tech visits more than 10 days in advance (really?) we had to wait until after vacation to schedule a visit.
So the guy comes today and he's a 3rd party contractor, not one of the three techs in our area who we are on a first name basis with. Great. He does the usual stuff - checks the line outside, the splitters, etc. He announces that the channels are now coming in after he replaced some splitters and shortened a cable. I check the channels and they aren't coming in.
He resets the tuning adapter, and while the TA is trying to lock in (going from blinking to solid green light on the front), the channels are coming in. The TA locks in, and channels stop coming in. He tries a new TA. Same thing happens. We bypass the TA and channels are coming in fine. He calls his dispatch/central support and they know nothing about not needing a TA any more. I get on chat with Tivo and they don't know anything, but say "if the channels are working without a TA, then you should be fine." I'm able to record and play back and all is good!
While trying to search why this might be, I come across an article about "TiVo Crafts 'Embedded' Switched Digital Video Tech" (I am new to the forum, so I can't post a link, but search for the article title to find it) which makes me wonder if our Tivo Premiere has software that basically replaces the TA, but it didn't matter until the signal changed to 100% digital, or if the 100% digital signal is responsible for eliminating the need for the TA.
Either way, I'm happy, since we have our channels and we don't have the &*%$ tuning adapter any more. It just seems that no one knows why.
Only a couple of episodes left this season. Not the greatest episode here but solid performances from the leads...
Apparently they did this live show this weekend in LA at the Hollywood Bowl. A bunch of the voice actors performing songs and such. I just hope they recorded it for release later.
Here is a link to HuffPo which has some videos and such...including Conan O'Brien singing the Monorail song.
I've been having trouble streaming TV from my Roamio Plus to my mini's. Every few minutes I get an error saying my network speed is too slow.
I called TiVo and went through a few diagnostics. They are telling me my signal strength (100%) and SNR (40-41dB) are too high. They suggested using a splitter to get my signal strength down to 99% and my SNR to 35dB.
Does that sound right? Is there a better way to knock down my signal strength and SNR? A splitter seems very imprecise and will just end up adding another cable behind my TV. Any other ways to knock down the SNR and signal strength?
While up-grading the hard drive in my TiVo HD, I noticed a wafer battery on the mother board near the cable card slots. (Picture attached below)
What does it power?
Should it ever require replacement?
This battery is original to this TiVo; wouldn't it be dead already?
As it stands, my HD is running great so I have no intention of messing with it, but I'd sure like to know what it's for.
This problem started just after software update 20.4.4 was installed on my Roamio Pro:
Every few minutes the TV screen goes black for a second or so. There is no interruption in the audio. This occurs both in viewing live and recorded material.
I believe that this is an issue that relates to playback on the Roamio Pro. Since I also have a Premiere XL (also updated to 20.4.4), I have also streamed the same recordings from my Roamio Pro to my Premiere. I see no abnormal behavior there nor on material recorded and played back on the Premiere.
Does anyone get (understand) this show? I've been watching, but it's not connecting. Are they dead? Alive? Space aliens? Is it me? Lol
