The world will be watching as the Games of the XXX Olympiad – more commonly known as the 2012 Summer Olympic Games or just “London 2012” – officially begin with the Opening Ceremony celebration tonight. The “Isles of Wonder” ceremony, as envisioned by Artistic Director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire), will showcase the traditional pageantry and protocol of any opening ceremony, including the parade of nations introducing the athletes of the games. 90s Shows You Should Be Recording (Part 2)

Thu, 07/26/2012 - 12:54
Last week we shared with you 90s shows you should be watching – well the list isn’t over yet! Be sure to add these three shows to your 90s roundup to make your flashback complete! The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (TBS & ABC Family)  The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air helped as an excellent transition into the 1990s and marked the on-screen start of rapper turned superstar Will Smith. The sitcom followed a formula similar to “The Cosby Show” where everything would eventually circle back to the family in each episode. Continue Reading

TiVo held its first annual summer veterans luncheon at corporate headquarters in Alviso, CA yesterday to honor the contributions of their 10 TiVets; U.S. Military veterans who are completing TiVo’s first TiVo Summer Veterans Intern Program. The unique program gives recent vets a transition from military to corporate life. The TiVo Summer Veterans Program was created by a group of veteran TiVo employees in collaboration with Tom Wolzien, Lead Director on the TiVo Board of Directors and a Vietnam War veteran himself. The TiVo veterans developed the program to bridge Continue Reading

Cable Conversion

Wed, 07/25/2012 - 16:53
During the past few months there have been a host of new series debuting on cable.  From the TNT remake of Dallas to the much ballyhooed return of, coincidentally, the king of Bally’s, Charlie Sheen, in Anger Management.  I tally twenty new series in all. Of course, that total does not include every new cable series.  Let me apologize upfront to some niche cable networks: you debut series more often than American Idol announces judges.  For the purposes of this analysis, I’ve limited my scope to the top rated new Continue Reading

TV This Week! 7/23

Mon, 07/23/2012 - 17:46
Summertime is mistakenly one of the most underrated seasons in the TV year. Even though we know it’s coming, the summer hiatus from our favorite shows still hurts just as much every year. Our cure? Take the opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and start watching some great new shows! Since we know you’re busy relaxing on the beach, laying out by the pool, or thrusting yourself in and out of the backyard sprinkler,  we’ve taken your TV watching needs into our hands (or should we say remotes?!). Continue Reading

90s Shows You Should Be Recording! Part 1 of 2

Fri, 07/20/2012 - 18:45
The 90s – this was the era of television that was simultaneously so cheesy, so controversial, and so groundbreaking. It is an era of TV that will live on forever in our hearts. From sitcom episodes that involved main characters rebeling against some type of authority, tamagotchis, “Harold and Maude” like relationships, cartoons with innocent political undertones, and most of all, a kid that had his head shaped like a football whose couch came out of his wall with the push of a button, this decade had it all. Here Continue Reading

And the Emmy [Nomination] Goes to…

Thu, 07/19/2012 - 12:31
The nominations are in! Jimmy Kimmel and Kerry Washington announced the 2012 Primetime Emmy Award Nominees live from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in North Hollywood, CA, this morning, kicking off the race to the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards in September. HBO once again led the pack with 81 total nominations, followed by CBS (60 nominations) and PBS (58 nominations). This year’s list of nominees included newcomers and critical favorites, such as HBO’s GIRLS and Veep and Showtime’s Homeland, and saw Downton Abbey move from the miniseries Continue Reading

Breaking Bad – (Mostly) Spoiler Free Recap

Tue, 07/17/2012 - 14:50
The best show on TV returned with a bang and promises us more drama. AMC struck gold with the premiere of “Breaking Bad,” getting a record breaking 2.9 million viewers, which is the highest the show has ever received. Brilliantly using the narrative device of a “flash-forward,” Creator Vince Gilligan opens season five of “Breaking Bad” with a grizzly and Hipster looking Walter on his 52nd birthday at a Denny’s.  One of the most replayed moments on TiVo was when Walt opens the trunk of an old car and there Continue Reading

Breaking Bad – Season 5 Premiere Expectations

Fri, 07/13/2012 - 16:47
“I AM THE DANGER” – Walter White.  After a jaw dropping season finale of AMC’s hit show Breaking Bad last October, we’ve spent the past few months re-living the first three seasons on Netflix instant, trying to assuage our withdrawal (no pun intended). Breaking Bad is finally making its epic Season 5 comeback this Sunday, July 15th. Creator Vince Gilligan and actors have said that this is going to be the craziest season that they have delivered thus far. There are only 16 episodes left and with its fresh, witty Continue Reading

Anger Management

Tue, 07/10/2012 - 08:35
Charlie Sheen is at it again! After being kicked off of his own hit show Two and a Half Men, Charlie took his anger issues all across the country on his infamous Torpedo Tour.  Screaming profanities and munching on Twizzlers in front of a live audience could only hold its appeal for so long before Sheen fans began to crave something more… relatable. Charlie may be an angry, self-proclaimed “battling warlock,” but he sure knows how to turn his shortcomings into charm on the TV screen. His newest sitcom on FX, Anger Management, Continue Reading

Tue, 06/26/2012 - 16:52
The start of the summer has included the return of two fan favorites, HBO’s True Blood and TNT’s Falling Skies, and we could not be more excited for what’s in store.  **SPOILER ALERT** Waiting nine long months for the return of True Blood was painful, but the season opener and seeing Detective Stabler trade in his badge for fangs in episode 2 were well worth the wait. Christopher Meloni (Law & Order: SVU) and fellow newcomer Christopher Heyerdahl (Sanctuary, The Twilight Saga) took on the difficult task of joining an Continue Reading

Bunheads vs. Gilmore Girls

Tue, 06/19/2012 - 10:00
‘Gilmore Girls’ creator Amy Sherman-Palladino premiered her latest, ‘Bunheads,’ on ABC Family this month (6/11), but it’s not just the creator and the network (where GG lives on in syndication) that these shows have in common…set your TiVo and take a closer look: Only two-episodes into ‘Bunheads,’ Sherman-Palladino’s penchant for pop culture references and Sorkin-esque fast-talking scenes are already apparent. And in addition to repeat matriarch Kelly Bishop, we’ve also spotted Gregg Henry (Mitchum Huntzberger) as a surfer bartender and heard that Chris Eigeman (Jason Stiles) and Rose Abdoo (Gypsy) Continue Reading

Father’s Day Face-Off – We have a winner!

Fri, 06/15/2012 - 08:50
Drumroll please…and the winner of the “Father’s Day Face-Off” is… Mr. Phil Dunphy! We had an inkling when he blew all the other comedy Dads out of the water in the first round of the Father’s Day Face-Off, but who could predict that Mr. Dunphy would also leave cutthroat (literally) competitors Dexter Morgan and Eddard [...]

Cinema Predictions

Wed, 06/13/2012 - 22:39
During the past year TiVo has been studying box office performances in relation to the fast-forward rates of movie spots – and the correlation between the two is undeniable. Fast-forward rate is simply the percent a spot is skipped during live plus seven days of time-shifted viewing. On average the fast-forward rates for movie spots, [...]
