Carmelita Jeter anchored the USA’s final leg, securing gold in world record pace of 40.82s and nailing the Top Moment of the evening in an event where the gold medal had eluded the Americans since 1996.   Not every Top Moment was happy for Team USA: Morgan Uceny broke down uncontrollably on the track as she tripped down Continue Reading

Women’s beach volleyball and track & field shared the spotlight for TiVo’s Top Moments of last night’s Olympics coverage on NBC. The most watched moment was the last few seconds of the women’s beach volleyball final between two USA teams: Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings vs. April Ross and Jennifer Kessy.  Ross and Kessy were strong contenders for the gold medal, casting doubt on the historic May-Treanor/Walsh Jennings duo’s claim to winning their third gold medal in London.  Suspense heightened after a shaky first half for May-Treanor/Walsh Jennings, but their Continue Reading

Who Shot J.R.?

Wed, 08/08/2012 - 13:49
Fans of the original Dallas series will never forget that line and TV historians will never forget what that scene did for television. It’s been said that the final scene of the season in 1980, where Larry Hagman’s character J.R. Ewing was shot by an unknown assailant, is one of the most unforgettable cliffhangers in prime time dramatic television. Dallas is also commonly credited with helping to popularize the trend in the US to end a television season with a cliffhanger. With the first season of the Dallas TNT reboot Continue Reading

In the women’s balance beam finals, the bronze medal came down to a tie between Raisman and Romania’s Catalina Ponor, in which the winner was decided by who had the higher execution score. Raisman’s higher score allowed her to top Ponor for bronze on the beam, but the two continued their competition in the next televised event. In the women’s vault final, Team USA learned there is no such thing as a “sure thing.” McKayla Maroney of USA, who earlier in these Olympics stuck an amazing vault, was highly expected to come away with gold; however, her failed second vault – which became TiVo’s Top Moment for Day 9 – proved that there are no sure things: Romania’s Sandra Izbasa needed to two perfect vaults to best Maroney and did just that, scoring a 15.196 and taking the gold. Track and field events dominated the rest of Continue Reading

NBC commentators and American audiences cried out as Raisman flailed and lost her balance along with her claim to a medal. Another nail biting moment: Gabby Douglas’s unsuccessful challenge to the title of Aliya Mustafina, Russian gymnast Continue Reading
