The Leftovers

Fri, 09/05/2014 - 12:41
Sundays are the perfect time to do those things that you’ve been meaning to do. A productive person uses this free time to do chores, such as laundry or gardening. I, on the other hand, decided that last Sunday was a good time to binge-watch HBO’s The Leftovers. The general premise of the series is that two percent of the world’s population disappeared three years ago. So when we’re introduced to all the characters, they’re still coping with the disappearances of their loved ones and trying to figure out what Continue Reading

Watching TV with Someone Smart is the Worst

Thu, 09/04/2014 - 15:42
Most people don’t know this, but when you start watching a new TV show, you enter into an implicit agreement. For the show’s part, it is agreeing to provide entertainment. This includes interesting characters and a compelling story. For your part, you are agreeing to accept the world created in the series. So in a series, if 2+2=5, then so be it. I accept that. And by accepting a show’s logic, I open myself up to enjoying that show. Most people abide by this unspoken agreement, but I’ve noticed a Continue Reading

Macy, and “Game of Thrones” creator George R.R. Martin. Yep, it was awesome.  Check out @TiVo on Twitter and Instagram to see all of the folks we managed to corral for a moment or two in the madness.   So, Continue Reading

Seven Deadly Sins

Thu, 08/21/2014 - 02:08
Showtime recently premiered a new series about the seven deadly sins. For those of you not in the know, these include lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride. As evidenced by the show’s first episode on gluttony, these sins can get pretty heavy (pun intended). And I for one do not have it in me to worry about one more serious issue. So I’ve decided that when it comes to this whole eternal damnation thing, I’ll just keep a positive attitude. As David Bowie sings in Labyrinth…“It’s only forever, not Continue Reading

Instead, we put together a list of our 40 favorite episodes of the iconic show, including these all-time classics: “Colonel Homer” (Season 3, Episode Continue Reading

Robin Williams – Happy Thoughts

Tue, 08/12/2014 - 11:43
Robin Williams made me laugh. It’s really as simple as that. Which is why the news of his passing seems like so much of a punch in the gut. In Hook, it took happy thoughts for Robin’s Peter Pan to remember why he’d come back to Neverland in the first place. So even though it’s hard to look back on such a vast career and pick out the lessons that mean the most, I think it’s best we focus on the happy thoughts that Robin Williams gave us: Sometimes it’s best to keep Continue Reading
