I was excited for it and watched the premiere, but it just fell flat immediately. It didn't die to any single huge flaw, the problem was that every aspect of it was mediocre. The casting, the acting, the writing, none of it had that spark that grabbed my attention. It gave me the immediate feeling of a show that was destined to be soon canceled. I didn't even bother to Tivo the second or third episode.

I don't mean the time slot was crowded for me personally. I meant that the time slot is horrible for ABC. They've been trying to launch shows there for several years with no success. With BBT and Idol in that slot taking all the viewers, it's going to be nearly impossible for another show to succeed there. I knew Zero Hour would suffer because of that and figured it wouldn't last long.

So wait - is it a feedback loop, or a toxic loop?

I like to keep my loops straight. :)

Outside of The Following, I don't think there is a new series that has launched this year (2013) that has received ratings greater than a 2.0. Both ABC and NBC have debuted shows to record low ratings. I would not want to be a network TV exec right now.

I bet this show would still be on if it had vampires in it.

I said the same thing about The Last Resort early on. If they moved it, it might have succeeded. Then of course the show went off the rails and it might have failed anyway.

I guess I can delete episode 3 off my recorder. I enjoyed the first two episodes for what they were.

The plot and all questions were supposed to be tied up at the end of the first season. They would start a new story with season 2.

    Maybe it does.

The lesson: Reveal your vampires in the pilot.

Well, we did get some sort of undead (or however they explained it) baby with freaky eyes...

What they really needed was a vampire who is a detective. Those shows have legs.

    Angel
    Blade: The Series
    Blood Ties
    Forever Knight
    Moonlight
    Nightwalker

All of them went more than three episodes.

    No. No. No.

They should have gone with zombies instead. Zombies > Vampires. 100% of the time.

There was a pretty cool comic book mini-series, now out in trade paperback, called New Deadwardians. It's set in an Edwardian era where a zombie plague has broken out, and to defend themselves the nobility has (mostly) allowed themselves to be transformed into vampires. The main character is a vampire cop. It is, of course, as with all stories set in the Edwardian period, a parable about class distinctions, but it's quite interesting.

(Hey, you brought up vampires vs. zombies!)

Take the cast of Twilight and drop them into The Walking Dead.

How many would survive? Probably none.

Now take the cast of The Walking Dead and drop them into the latest Twilight movie.

You're gonna have a whole lot of dismembered, decapitated, and hopelessly mutilated vampires.

High enough that I never have to see or hear anything about Kristen Stewart or Robert Pattinson again, yet not so high that Ashley Greene will be injured. How high is that?

The cast of Twilight I'd like to drop from a very great height.

I have to say I feel the general KStew hate is a bit over the top, she's been ok in better pictures, I liked her in Adventureland and The Runaways, and the clips I've seen of her in On The Road haven't been awful. Snow White and the Huntsman was meh, but not awful. Pattinson I can do without :)
