I tested out the new youtube app today. It is nice having an updated interface and HD but I still cant access many videos. Vevo videos the ones I tested. For example, I searched "Foster the people - Call it what you want" on both tivo and google tv. The youtube apps are very similar. The google tv one plays perfectly fine. The tivo one says "cannot play video - trying next video" or something similar.

Does anyone know if this will ever work? I would love if I could play vevo videos so I could finally get rid of my google tv (revue). Im hoping its not a licensing issue.

You may want to shoot margret an email per your post in the 20.2.1 update thread she started. I would suggest you include links to the videos on youtube so they know the exact ones you are looking for that don't work.

Of course it is up to youtube to fix it.

I did. She got back to me pretty quickly. Shes seeing the same issues and passing the info onto her contact at YouTube.
I'm still betting its a licencing issue since its all of Vevo, but I really hope its not :(

Welcome to the world of Youtube. This is the case on Boxee, Google tv, Xbox, etc. It is a license issue. When a publisher uploads a video, they are allowed to restrict videos so it doesn't work on big screens. There's nothing TiVo can do about this.

    Google owns YouTube.

Yes I know googles owns YouTube.
I got a response from marget: "It turns out that there can be differences between the videos available on TiVo and those available on other devices because the YouTube app provided to us does not support Ads."

So I guess the videos that has ads will not work. Damn

Ah, that makes sense. The Vevo(?) videos always play ads on the computer.

Otherwise I'm happy with the new Youtube app. It is so glorious to not be limited to 360p video anymore. I was about to plonk down some cash for an AppleTV or Roku box to stream better, but this will hold me over for now.

    Hi All,

Anyone know if there have been any published updates for the Youtube App for Tivo?

I watched a BBC4 documentary posted to Youtube on our Tivo Premiere a couple of nights ago which I'd added to my Youtube Favourites and rather than signing in with my username/passwd I got a sync screen similar to Hulu Plus, so thats not as I remember it. Playback was pretty smooth and Picture Quality seemed decent too, though again that might be par for the course as most of the Youtube stuff I'd seen to date on Tivo is old VHS or cell phone cam uploads.

I was also able to watch a couple of Vevo music videos on Youtube that previously would not play on Tivo, Britney Spears/World Ends and Lady Gaga/Paparazzi, also from my Favourites not sure if this indicates that Vevo has lifted the block on Tivo, there was a transient glitch in the blocking mechanism, they only block recent releases or I was hallucinating :)
