Will a TivoHD image work for a Premiere?

The hard drive in my Tivo Premiere (TCD746320) died this morning and the largest hard drive I have laying around is the 750Gb drive from my old TivoHD (yes, I upgraded it).

My question is, can I just throw that disk in my Premiere and have it work or do I need to get a Premiere image from somewhere and install that on the disk first?

You can use the disk itself but you will have to install the correct software for a Premiere using DvrBARS, then expand it using jmfs. Go to the upgrade forum and check out those two threads.

I'll send you a PM to the 746320 image.

Thanks for such great help! I really appreciate it!

I've restored the image and expanded it and will put it in the Tivo tonight. Thanks again!

FYI, I installed the re-imaged drive in the Tivo and it worked fine (I thought).

I fully configured it, got all the updates and rebooted a few times and then I noticed a problem. It wouldn't record. I quickly googled the symptoms and found this page (http://goo.gl/qW9DXv) which described my issue exactly.

I did a "Clear and Delete Everything" and it has worked perfectly since then. Thanks again for the excellent help!

My TCD746320 drive is toasted too, could I please the disk image too?

Also, do you know if this messes with the lifetime subscription?

The Lifetime sub is tied to the TiVo Service Number, the official copy of which is on a chip on the motherboard.

Each individual TiVo has a unique TSN.

If you put a hard drive with an image on it that came from a different TiVo into your TiVo, then it'll have to do some stuff, proabably a clear and delete everything, followed by having to go through Guided Setup all over again, to wipe out everything on the drive that's tied to the old TSN and to get your machine's TSN written in all the right places.

You may or may not see some mention of error 51 before it finished straightening itself out.

However, once all that's taken care of, when it contacts the TiVo servers for guide data and such, it'll report itself via the TSN, and TiVo will check their database and discover that they have that TSN with a Product Lifetime Service classification.

I figured it had to be slightly more complicated than a mac address or software serial number. Thanks!

Hopefully someone can send me the image...

PM sent. As noted, you will have to run Clear & Delete Everything after putting the new disk in the TiVo to "marry" it to the motherboard.

Hi Folks, any thoughts on following? Premier XL TCD748000 w/ lifetime just out of warranty was getting green screen of death. I dropped in an older Tivo HD 320MB drive and the XL boots up okay. Yet I am testing the XL's 1TB WD drive and it passed both quick and now seems okay after 80% of the detail test, so the drive itself may be okay. Any suggestions?
Could it be that software on the 1TB is corrupt. Is installing tivo image on this 1TB the next logical step, before replacing it outright? If so, can some kind sole send me a link to the image?

    Thanks much!

It must be the month of the dying Premiere's...

Any chance you can send me the TCD746320 image as well?

I'm trying to salvage it using DvrBARS, but given how the drive is behaving, I don't have high hopes.

    Thanks!

Any chance I can trouble you for the same image (TCD746320)? I lost my saved original in a house fire..

    Thanks in advance!
