I've been looking forward to this one. Kind of a GOT appetizer.
Did you watch it? Was it any good?
I saw a commercial for it before a movie yesterday. Had not heard about it before that.
I thought it was good. Typical first episode, they have to introduce everyone, give you an idea their nature and set up a mid-term issue.
I'm enjoying it. Not many TV shows I like. This looks like one. Wife is kinda hot.
Been following Katheryn Winnick ever since she did a guest spot on 'House' . With her martial arts background, definitely fit for the role of a Shield Maiden and plus she's smokin'.
I was expecting a documentary and found a drama. The first episode was ok, I'll keep the SP for now.
Remind me not to mess with a Viking woman.
Didn't even hear about this but the NY Post had this line in a review:
"the series is kind of like a Viking version of “Spartacus” without the boobs"
I might still check it out though.
and the three gallons of blood per episode.
Not even close to GOT IMO, but then nothing is. It was ok.
There must be GOT carryover interest. I can't figure out why Vikings got such high ratings, almost matched the premier of network show Red Widow.
I only watched the first episode but it looks like the first 2 are available on the History channel website
Opening was pretty violent and gory and I was worried the series was going to be that way throughout. But after the opening it wasn't too very bad. Well, the beheading and the wife defending herself pretty handily. The way they kept reffering to going to "the Thing" I kept thinking, Oh Geez, what awful thing is "the Thing" going to be.
Didn't expect it to be as great as GOT, just a similar vein. You know, a fighting with swords, violent, conquering other peoples kind of thing in a similar feeling time period. Without live dragons though.
First episode, a behind the scenes video and sneek peek of the series are all available in HD for free on Amazon Instant: (no prime required)
I like that they're more or less sticking with genuine medieval practice...dramatized and modernized, of course, but still in the neighborhood of the way things were done.
Nice primer on early medieval law, where the lord was judge, jury, and executioner...theoretically he was bound by the law, but he could manipulate it basically to the extent that he could get away with it, until people decided they couldn't take it any more and put an end to him. So the trick is if you're going to screw somebody, make sure you screw the right people.
I get the feeling it's not going to be long before Ragnar is the right people.
GOT = Game of Thrones (for the, like me, uninitiated LOL)
Vikings sunstone found
I find your obsession with sexy Viking six-packs disturbing...
These men have minds, you know! Stop objectifying them!
No idea how accurate this is: http://www.arild-hauge.com/elife.htm
When I watched, I heard it as "fing," which apparently was wrong.
