    Rockaway,...
I have a Tivo Series2 (serial starting with 540 software version 9.3.2a-01-2-540) that I've been using with a wireless usb adapter for quite some time.
I decided to switch to a wired connection so I picked up a netgear FA120 usb adapter (which is on the Tivo approved list) and hooked it up to my Tivo.
The power light lit but the link/act light did not and Tivo was unable to detect my network.
According the posts I saw, I'm doing everything right, but it's not working.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Did you restart the Tivo?

The FA-120 will work with the 540 S2. I suggest unplugging the adapter, then unplug the TiVo. After 10-30 seconds, plug in the TiVo. When the boot process completes and your at the menu, plug in the adapter.

    No dice on both suggestions.
It seems strange that I'm getting power, but no link.
    Any other suggestions?

Is your router set for MAC filtering?

It's also possible that you're using a bad Ethernet cable...

I checked the cable with my laptop - it's working fine.
I checked my router - no MAC filtering, but some IP filtering, always allowed (see below)

    Code:
    TCP 20-21
    TCP 80
    TCP 443
    UDP 53
    TCP 25
    TCP 110
    TCP 23
Since nothing being specifically blocked by the IP filters, I didn't think that was a problem.

Thanks for the suggestions - any other guesses?

Try the FA-120 with your laptop. See if you can confirm that it works. I have two of these adapters, and they have been very reliable.

BTW, mac filtering is usually under access control for computers inside on the LAN, while IP filtering is through the WAN. Just making sure you're looking at the right setup page on your router.

I think it's the FA120. I connected it to my laptop and got the same situation: power but no link after I installed the drivers.
I think I have another usb cable I might try with it before I try to get another adapter.
