The current Time Warner promotion in my area is a $150 Best Buy gift card for switching to their bundled package. Around Christmas the promotion was the same gift card plus a Microsoft XBox.

I've decided to switch from my local cable co to TWC but figure I should time the switch such to maximize my promotion. Anyone watch their promotions close enough to know if the current $150 is typical/good/bad??

    Thank you.

Is your local really THAT bad to drive you to TWC?

Or do you just not have any previous experience as a TWC victim?

In the Los Angeles area I have no other choice but TWC. We don't have competing cable companies in one area. So far I have been lucky, no major problems. When I have had a problem and call, I do get routed to the Philippines. After their "scripted" problem resolution doesn't work, I ask for a supervisor.

Of course I could go satellite...

Local cable, Buckeye Cable, has gotten much better in recent years but I can save $20 a month with TWC, get the $150, and actually pickup a few channels I can't get now. No contract other than a 90 day obligation to get the gift card.

Not so sure about the "actually". I bet this requires a tuning adapter. Good luck with TWC properly provisioning (authorizing, balancing, ... whatever) your account and the TA being reliable. I wish I had another choice other than TWC -- would gladly give up a "few channels".

You are aware that promotions run for one year and then they can do whatever they want with your rate? I'm on a TWC promotion and they just raised my rate $6/mo with no advance notice. When I asked they said they never give advance notice of rate increases on promotional rates. I might be able to threaten to cancel, get transfered to a "retention specialist" and get a lower rate -- but for $6/mo (and no certainty of any reward for the effort -- other than being embarassed if they call my bluff about cancelling), it just isn't worth the hassle
