I have read not to use the Tuning Adapter pass through and instead split the cable beforehand and run a line both to the Roamio and Tuning Adapter, but my searches do not turn up a layman's explanation as to why. Does this only apply to MoCA or is it always a bad idea? What negative impact is it having?
MoCA is the biggest problem with it, as the TA will often block the MoCA signals. The tuning adapters are very cheaply made, and their internal splitter used to create the passthrough can cause other signal problems besides just MoCA. That's why it is recommended to always use a good quality splitter before the tuning adapter rather than relying on the tuning adapter's internal splitter.
