Tivo Suggestion Not Working

    I am pleased to hear the investigation is still ongoing and appears to have now received some level of priority by Tivo Inc.

    Regarding the UK boxes whilst I note the theory of the extended TMS Series IDs having prevented the Suggestions software from going on recording Suggestions previously put forward by Tivo what about all those many older series still being shown with older shorter TMS ID numbers that the UK version 2.5.5 Suggestions software surely ought to still be able to interface with? So we ought to still be getting some Suggestions but just rather less of them instead of absolutely zero unless people have set some new thumbs that day (before the next database reindex after a daily call wipes them out). Or are you maintaining that all the old Series IDs also had their TMSIDs extended?

    Whilst it would be an embarrassing about turn by Tivo Inc to admit that its previous theory as to why Suggestions on UK Tivos had stopped recording was entirely wrong and that Suggestions functionality could now be brought back on UK Tivos I am sure that Tivo would in fact gain far more credibility for solving the problem than it would suffer criticism for possibly having inadvertently misled UK customers about the cause of the loss of Suggestions and the ability of Tivo to fix the problem.

    Depends. Maybe 14-digit TMSIDs in the data crash the Suggestions algorithm, making it useless for all TMSID lengths.

    One of my Series 2 dual tuners has a similar issue also. Suggestions stopped recording a couple of months ago and earlier regular recordings are being deleted for "lack of space". My season passes are recording but earlier recordings are being deleted to "make room". This is a 275 hour unit with most recordings on medium quality. I know I have more then enough disk space left. Recordings I've had since this summer started being deleted because the Tivo thinks it's running low on disk space.

    Just an update from the BBB side of things...here's TiVo's initial response:

    Seriously? They lead with a lie (which is irrelevant in any case, because I'm not in the UK) and then don't address the actual issue. I am, of course, following up.

    Really pathetic customer service. Pony, can't you somehow transport this information from your head to the employees who actually interact with the public? No matter how we try to interact with TiVo, they always have the wrong info.

    For ALL S2/S3/HD users - PLEASE try the reboot trick first, before posting about this problem.
    Most S2/S3/HD users have fixed the problem (at least temporarily?) with this solution. Only S1 users seem to have the problem persist.

    TivoPony: thanks for posting an update. It's good to hear that we are potentially getting somewhere! I was starting to get really annoyed, but that post certainly has decreased my pressure-level and has bought Tivo some more time. :)

    F. Jones: Exactly what I am used to seeing from the BBB... no real initiative, and they will not look at any of the references/documentation that I provided them, and then just believe what the vendor says off one phone call. I just got tired of dealing with them in that sense.

    kingkong316: Just for list-accuracy, are you an S3 or an HD?

    I think the BBB only works if the company is interested in providing decent customer service and cares about its reputation. I've had success before with both large companies (who were unaware of the problem) and small companies (who cared about their reputation).

    I note that TiVo has been given a C- by the BBB, so it looks like they are quite familiar with telling their customers to screw off.

    I tried the gentle nudge route first. The next step is to move on to tivosucks.com or something like that. Anyone have any suggestions? (My TiVo is fresh out!)

    Just to clarify, my TiVo is BSM as well. I briefly had a suggestion after the reboot trick but it quickly went away.

    I've also noticed a problem with some season passes. Many are recording just fine but the TiVo refuses to record some of them. Example: Holmes on Homes. I set it to record ALL, there are 10+ upcoming episodes and there are NO scheduling conflicts with other season passes. TiVo will not select ANY of the upcoming episodes to record. If I manually select them to record, they do. Drive space is not a problem. I currently have maybe 6 items recorded. TiVo reports 45 hour capacity at best quality.

    Edit: figured out the season pass problem. The show switched from TLC to Discovery. Recreating the SP picked up the shows.

    please add me to the group of users with the suggestions list being blank and suggestions being recorded rarely (BSM+NRS). I have an S1 modified with tivonet.

    Well, OK, the BBB thing was pointless, except that we can see the depths of TiVo's horrible customer service:

    Sorry I did not reply sooner... the reset did work for my machine as suggested. I am still very interested to see how TiVo resolves this issue froma customer service standpoint.

    Hang in there. I am sorry you all are still dealing with this.

    Having read through the whole thread I am adding myself to the list.

    MY issue started about 3-4 weeks ago, I have since deleted all my old suggestions, so I dont know the exact date. I have suggestions to record (although if you look at them in the to do list, they are oddly out of order, In other words i see dates like 11/25, 11/25, 11/26, 11/26, 11/27, 11/25, 11/26, 11/25, etc..)

    No suggestions being recorded.

    Anyway, I have tried the reboot trick, and it didnt seem to solve anything.

    FYI: I have a Tivo Series 3 (actually S3, not a Tivo HD).

    I'm waiting for something to happen here, but I wanted to bump the correlation with "can't cancel season pass" subthread.

    On my series 2, I have the complete problem, no joy. As far as I know there was nothing new going on at the time it started. However, I've also been unable to cancel a season pass, as was mentioned a few times before. This is clearly another serious bug with the service.

    Doesn't this seem quite a coincidence, Pony, schwinn, et.al.?

    Also, check for correlation with swivel search and data collection opt-outs?

    My series three - i can cancel season passes, but nothing (including new thumbs up) gets me any suggestions, which is rather annoying, because ive spent so much time training my tivo.

    Im going to give it a few months, and if it doesnt get fixed... i dont know. I have been using tivo since i guess around 2000, and i have always pushed for it. (half my family owns tivos either bought by me as presents or suggestions), but still, suggestions are one of the top three reasons to have it, as far as im concerned.

    *really bummed*

    My series 2 suggestions started up again with the soft-ratings-reset: turned off suggestions; did a clear-ratings-reset; turned on suggestions, and re-rated.

    There's still something fishy with my tivo, though, and I don't know if it's related. There's tons of free space, but every time I ask it to record a specific single show, it tells me that something from a season pass won't be recorded because there's no space. It makes me wonder if the suggestion problem is it really deciding that there's no space.

    Also, BTW, deleting season passes from the manager works; but deleting it from a recorded program didn't (though it said it did).
