It is re-airing in 2 weeks as part of the 2 hour launch of season 2.

If you want to run it right after the game to get those viewers--which is the only reason I can think of to run it that late at night in the first place--why schedule the OT and confuse the issue. Duh.

(of course you wouldn't want to miss the rant by that Seattle player. :D)

They should have edited the S1 retrospective into something that would have fit into the 15 minute segment. If I was them, I'd have had a 10 to 15-minute edit of it canned and ready to go in case something like this happened.

The OT is only there as a buffer. It's designed to be anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes just to fill the timeslot so that FOX won't be like CBS and constantly causing their regular prime time schedule to run late. I don't think FOX anticipated that the game would end so early. They probably hoped it would go until there was only about five minutes left in the OT's timeslot, and then they could talk briefly about the game and start The Following on schedule.

Looks like FOX made a good decision. The ratings for this episode were a 4.4 (adults 18-49) which is up from a 3.2 for the S1 premiere and a 2.7 for the S1 finale. If a good chunk of those stick around and watch the second episode next week, it will be a huge win for FOX.

It started exactly on time on KTVU.. (err, I had a 1 minute pre/post pad, and paid attention IN CASE I needed to post-pad it more, but I didn't).
