Just the chances that it is a non-elimination.

I don't think the goat herders are going to make Abbie and Ryan stay there for possibly hours... I think they'll tell them it's ok to go without them.

I don't know what their strategy is anyway... if they are banking that it's non-elimination and that someone won't get eliminated even if they hit the mat at the same time, then they have nothing to lose, well, other than 4 hours, by giving up and taking the penalty. They could keep trying at it for hours more and still not get it and end up having to take the penalty on top of that.

I don't recall there being any kind of precedent in the show, but if they decide both will hit the mat at the same time, is there any guarantee that they BOTH won't be eliminated if it's an elimination leg?

I hope they both are eliminated.
If they are too stupid to compete against one another they all deserve to be eliminated.
They seem to be only worried about staying even with the other team in last place. They should also be worrying about how far they have fallen behind the rest of the pack.

Haven't read the whole thread yet.

    Revised Reality Show Rules:
    Survivor
    1) Learn to start a fire
    2) Learn to swim

    Amazing Race:
    1) Learn to drive stick
    2) DON'T LEAVE ANYTHING IN THE CAB, EVER

Judging by the goat herder's performance and earlier season swimming issues from Keisha, this is probably a good strategy for either show. ;)

I don't think they can literally hit the mat at the same time.

I can sort of understand teams NOT in the end working together, even for most/all of an episode (multiple tasks).. But not the last 2.. that makes on sense, unless one team is just going to start sprinting at the end and screw over the other team.. HMM..

Plan for when I'm on the Amazing Race in last place:
Work with the team next to me in place, and sprint at the very end.

    Won't work, since I'm slow..

Nah...they do pick up shots afterwards to exaggerate those points.

After waiting six weeks to start watching this season, we catch up and finish with a "to be continued" episode. Are you kidding me!?!?

I really feel back for the Rockers. Running the race with a bad knee can't be fun. Then to lose your bags in a cab. At least they have a few hours to figure that out before the last two teams arrive.

In TAR, the passport basically has to be attached to you in some way (fanny pack, etc.) AND you can't leave that behind.

If I were in their shoes, I'd call every taxi dispatching company I could find.

But A) there are probably hundreds in Moscow, and B) I'm not altogether sure I'd count on honesty in this case, and C) they'd likely need translation help with the dispatchers.

Can't they call the American Embassy?

I keep forgetting that there IS an American Embassy in Moscow in these times. When I was growing up, there was an "American interests" section in some other country's embassy.

Yes. They are on no real danger of losing their passports. The cab driver knew they were filming a show since he was driving around two hairy Americans and one guy with a big camera. There was probably lots of producers and crew scattered near by and the cabbie will eventually return their stuff on his own. It's not like the rockers are two individuals all alone in a foreign country.

Which brings up the whole Producer Intervention thing again. Even if the producers talk to the cabbie and make sure the rockers' passports are safe, is this intervention to change the course of the competition?

My guess: they make sure the stuff doesn't get far, but the rockers only get it after being Philiminated...unless they find things on their own beforehand.

I knew this because I remember the story about our new embassy building in Moscow. The old one had to be replaced because it was filled with listening devices.

    Story here at SFGate:

The web page the rockers need is this one -- passports lost or stolen: http://moscow.usembassy.gov/lost.html

Getting the passport replaced likely isn't an option for them, keep in mind, they're going to need a number of specialized visa's to travel to some of these countries. (Even for countries where we might not normally need one, I'd guess that being on the show technically counts as being in the country for business, so they'd likely need business visas.)

That said, to me, having this be a to be continued is almost certainly an indication that they manage to get ahold of their passports again. There'd be absolutely no reason to do it this way otherwise.
