So it's obvious with a TA new restrictions were put into place blocking channels we could record before. I ran a test and determined this

This image shows you two recordings. One was recorded with the TA on.
The other was recorded with the TA off, not unplugged.

NOTE: Channels that require the TA to function will not load without it.

What this means, if there is something you wish to use TD or Pytivo you will need to time it and power down the TA before the show starts. Otherwise you will have to use a TV card to do your own editing.

It's Christmas: An early gift for everyone at TC, your welcome.

You can and did record both time successfully. The difference most likely is that with the TA on, you are getting the digital version of the channel which has the CCI byte set so that it cannot be transferred. The second recording was the analog channel, which has no CCI protection due to it being analog. I am sure if look there is a definite difference in picture quality.
The issue is most likely that your provider has a default policy of blocking the transfer of everything they can. Policies disallow them from affecting local channels and analogs.
If this is an issue for you, might I suggest you pick up a cheap S2 lifetimed unit to record things available in analog.

socrplyr is exactly right. If you try and repeat the experiment with an HD channel for example that doesn't have an analog simulcast you will find unplugging TA will result in either:
    1. No difference in copy protection byte if channel is not SDV
    2. Unable to tune/record it with TA disconnected if it is SDV

Before the TA is on ,channels from 100 and below (analog) are encrypted with extra CCI layers except for Broadcast CBS, Fox, NBC, ABC, CW. Granted there are select few channels that just outright will not share, Sprout, Nickjr and DisneyJr only allow 1 recording to Tivo. It may not seem a lot but so many channels became locked on us that we had rights to record from. Nick and Disney were open through the cablecard but once again with TA it just encrypted and locked it out.

Now some HD PBS station are also auto-locked with the TA on. But for us 617 WUSF Kids becomes open to transfers with TA powered off. To bad the power on/off can not be controlled with the TiVo remote. oh well.

In case I forgot mention it, I use Brighthouse Cable

As we are trying to explain when you have TA unplugged all your channels below 100 are analog so there is no CCI byte to deal with. With TA plugged in those channels are no longer analog since they are mapped to their digital counterpart frequencies which are subject to CCI byte.
