    No thread yet?

    I enjoyed the cold opening...

"If I'm such a loser, why do I have health insurance?" :p

    I loved Aaron Paul's appearances...

Obama: Here's Jesse from New Mexico:
"I had a friend who had lung cancer and didn't have good health insurance, so he did what any of us would do...he started cooking meth...then it wasn't just meth, it was murder...."
    Obama: Um...that's enough...
Jesse: Don't you want to know how it ends?
    Everyone: NOOOOO!!!!!! :D:D:D

Then he was "Drunk Uncle's" "Meth Nephew" ;)

    "Meth-Seth-Meth-Seth"

Tina Fey's "pep talk" to Cecily Strong on "WU" was pretty darn funny...and creepy...she walks that line so well...

The Meth e-cigarette was hilarious-"I can smoke in my favorite restaurant"
"You are in my house and you're butt-nekked!"

Good featuring of the new cast-some good-looking dudes in there! ;)

    Other thoughts?

I turned it on right when Arcade Fire was playing, and I thought Oh they are featuring the new cast members in a skit. Thought they were pretty funny, till I realized that was for real. Really? Can't say much more than that.

For a season opener, I thought it was pretty weak. I mean they had weeks or months to get this one right, and I don't think they did.

They NEVER have a great season opener, though, do they? I thought this one was better than recent years. Obviously time will tell how the new kids shake out, but Noel had a nice debut with her Lena Dunham impression.

Whoever it was that did the stand-up comic character on WU should go back to the drawing board.

Absolutely love Vanessa and Cecily's "Not Porn Stars Anymore" characters.

If you started the show during Arcade Fire's (AF) performance, then you missed the game show skit they did with Tina Fey (and Lorne Michaels) whereby they try to differentiate between the new cast members and AF.

LIke usual, the sound during the musical guest was awful. Arcade Fire is a great group, but you couldn't tell because you couldn't hear them.

Plus they didn't use any old-timey instruments.

Good to see Cecily is still doing sketches in addition to being a Weekend Update anchor.

Having the new cast members featured in both the monologue and then in a sketch not too much later -- that seemed like a bit too much.

I think the airplane-boarding sketch was my favorite. I wonder if one of the writers discovered FlyerTalk.com during the summer.

We did not need five new young skinny white guys. I've just now gotten to the point where I can recognize Taran.

YES! That was hee-larious! I LOVE Aaron Paul-he should host!

The Girls satire was funny too-Blerta should become a new cast member-"I am so hungry-can I please eat the donut off your head?" :p;)

One of the new cast members is Beck Bennett, who is the guy who interviews the kids in the ATT "It's not complicated" series.

I'm thinking they are holding on-air tryouts and only two will make the the cut. The new female cast member is pretty cute.

I enjoyed the episode quite a bit. Better than what I watched last year, for sure. The writing in some sketches had just enough zing to make them enjoyable. Last year I doubt they would have done quite as well with the airport boarding sketch. It wasn't amazing or anything but there were a couple of good lines that broke character to a degree yet made it funnier.

I like the new Weekend Update vibe.

Arcade Fire's sound mixing was really off - vocals too muted and Win ended up getting his face too close to the mic to compensate.

Our local affiliate did not show the Arcade Fire video after the event. I saw it online and couldn't figure it out - seemed like it was pre-taped based on some of the content, but not if looking at the rest of it.

It's a good thing I know who they are and have heard Reflektor (the song) before... that would not have convinced me that they are worthy of their Grammy. Listening "between the lines" I was able to discern that the new album is going to be outstanding... and Rolling Stone seems to agree.

I laughed out loud when he came in with the huge carry on during the airport sketch. :)

If the cast were people in a night club, that would be a bad ratio.

    :D
