So, after re-arranging various entertainment devices at my parents' house, have come to one room with this arrangement: coax from wall connects to Tivo Series 2 (model TCD540040) RF in, coax from Tivo RF out connects to VCR RF in. I re-ran guided setup to tell Tivo it was to receive a cable signal w/out a cable box, if I look at the system info it confirms that the source is cable w/out box and rf/coax in. But, I have no signal. (black screen with bouncing "searching for signal" message). At this point I was curious if something was wrong with the particular cable outlet I was using, and was fixing to take the tv to another room where there was an outlet feeding an analog tuner tv just fine. When I put the Tivo into standby, the VCR received the analog cable signal just fine. Could change channels and everything. So, apparently, the pass thru was working okay. So, this perplexed me... how can the vcr see the signal fine, but the tivo can't? Where should I be looking? Thanks in advance.
