I'm looking to get as much low level information as possible about the old junk satellite boxes I've got like how to drive them to a certain frequency and detect what they receive, even just a signal strength indication. Being able to actually demodulate something would be a plus.

I'm interested in using the boxes and dishes in building small radio telescopes. Why? Mostly because they receive at higher frequencies than anything else I've got and for most purposes shorter wavelengths are better.

There are some examples of doing this here:

I'm new here so I can't post links, but that's what this is all about. My post makes no sense without examples. Trying to fool the checker so I put some spaces in (3 of them).

Unfortunately he's got newer junk than I've got so his specifics don't help me much.

    What I've got handy are:
    RCA drd420re
    Dish dp301
    Samsung SIR-S300w (have 2 or 3)
4 or 5 small dishes, a few feeds.

I don't care anything about actually watching TV on them.

This is a Tivo forum. Maybe you should post on a ham radio forum.
