S3 only records suggestions sometimes

Here's a new one (I think): My HD S3 TiVo used to record suggestions all the time...just like every TiVo I've had back to Series 1.

Now, it's only recording them very rarely, and only for a day or two at a time.

I've tried purging (deleting) the old suggestions, confirming there's plenty of room on the drive, turning the suggestions recording function on and off, but nothing sems to fix this.

The last suggestions recorded were from July 31. Before that, it had recorded noe since July 9.

    Any ideas, oh TiVoheads?

Maybe your Tivo has figured you out. :p
Have you been rating shows all this time? Are the suggestions that are recording 100% to your liking? If so, then what's the problem? :D

Seriously, if you don't care about the thumb ratings and you want to test that theory, you can perform a 'Clear Thumb Ratings & Suggestions' from the restart menu.

If you care about your thumb ratings, I got nothing.

Do you have a tuning adapter ("TA") in your setup? If so, that's one of the downsides to them.

A J nailed it. The presence of the TA causes S3's and THD's to pretty much stop recording suggestions. If you unplug the TA overnight the suggestions list will repopulate and it will record them normally for a while but then it will grind to a halt again.

A J and SCSIRAID: I think you solved the mystery. It's TW's TA. Even after I cleared my ratings and started over, I got no suggestion recording.

It's a bummer, but I don't have any other decent alternatives for programming in this area. I guess I'll have to build that HTPC, after all.

Tivo has known about this issue for years but has refused to correct it. They'd rather you just buy a new Tivo...and let you enjoy that new version until they start removing features from it too.
