Roamio Netflix throttles based on video settings?

    I have Comcast Blast at 50Mbps down. Both Tivos (Basic and Plus) hardwired via ethernet (one on a 100 Mbit link, the other on GigE).

    Looks like on the Roamio, the Tivo will max out the Netflix bandwidth based on the Video settings you have.

    For example, on my Roamio Basic, it's hooked up to a 720p TV.....so in video settings I only have 720p selected. Netflix on this box will top out at 3000 kbps (1280x720). However, depending on the time of day, sometimes it has a hard time getting to 3000.

    However, on my Plus...that's hooked up to a 1080p TV that supports the 1080p24. In settings I have 1080p and passthrough selected. On that box Netflix will top out at 3850 kbps (1920x1080). I then switched my video settings on that TV to just 720p and Netflix tops out at the 3000 kbps.

    What's interesting is, I have two Apple TVs (3rd gen), one hooked up wireless and one hardwired. Both of these will go all the way to 5800 (1920x1080) on BOTH TVs.

    I'm testing using the Example Short (http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Example_Short_23.976/70136810?trkid=13462100)

    Is anyone else able to get their Tivos to go higher than 3850?

    Yes, no problems. I have the same video you linked to above in "My List" and just played it and it started at 1080p/24 resolution and 5800 kbps right away and stayed there (this on my Roamio Pro). Note that you need to enable 1080p/24 as a video output, not just 1080p (which is 1080p/60).

    That's weird.....wonder why I can't seem to get my Tivo to go above 3850 but the ATV hits the 5800 right away.

    Do you have 1080p/24 enabled as a TiVo output as well (in addition to 1080p)?

    Yes, on the Plus I have both 1080p and 1080p Pass through enabled.

    [shrug] Perhaps as a last resort reboot 1 of the TiVos. It's a long shot but always worth a try when nothing else helps.

    FYI I checked my series 4 units today and looks like they have Opera Store & New Netflix App now. I had to sign in to Netflix on each and then ran the 1080p/24 test and got 5800 Kbps right away for them as well.

    Thanks. Well at least I know it's possible.....now I just have to figure out why it's not happening.

    I even took the cat6 cable from the Tivo and plugged into the ATV to check the line and the ATV went right to 5800.

    Could it be that for some reason the TiVo App is using different Netflix servers than ATV? Perhaps check your router to see if you can figure out Netflix IP #s being used and if they are different between TiVo and ATV?

    I have mine set for just 1080P60 output. It still will stream the SuperHD encodes.

    Yeah, did a reboot and still it tops out at 3850.

    It's one of those issues that makes you shake your head and wonder WTH is going on.

    Granted, 3850 will push it into 1080p......so I can't complain too much.
