Hi Gents, hoping someone clever can help me figure out a creative solution. At my weekend place that's 75 miles from Chicago up in Michigan, I watch a blend of OTA and cable TV so that I can see Chicago local affiliates instead of the Indiana ones that cable (and DirecTV for that matter) provide up here. I currently have a Tivo Premiere XL that has 2 coax ins, one for cable and one for OTA. I was planning on upgrading that house to Roamio, along with adding a Tivo Mini in another room. Lo and behold, Tivo Roamio (base version) is Cable OR OTA, NOT both. Any ideas? I saw someone suggest cross-streaming between the Premiere (which has OTA) and a Roamio in the other room. Or, change to a Premiere XL 4 with a Mini in the other room, but I do think the Roamio platform is so much more robust and would like to implement it if possible. How good is the cross-device streaming between a Roamio and Premiere? Wondering your thoughts. Thank you.

The streaming is just like with a mini.

thanks roo. Do you think we would be able to watch live tv on the Roamio streaming from the Premiere XL4, or only access recordings?

As far as live tv goes, a full tivo box can't seamlessly grab a tuner the way the minis can...

You'd have to start a recording on the other box , then browse the other box from your local box and play (stream) the program.

(The iOS app can make this less painful, if that's an option)

    It's not very slick tho...

you could set up season pass(es) for the news, tell it to only keep say 2 copies max. That way you'd already have the news recording each day... The just watch it when you want to. You'd also get the advantages of being able to skip commercials.
