    Good Afternoon,
TiVo and this forum are new to me. Some people think I'm a computer geek, other's think I'm illiterate. So, here goes a question.

First: I have a Humax DVD Recorder using TiVo service.

Second: Why would I want my TiVo wireless? I have a desktop, laptop and they are wireless. BUT what benefits would there be if my TiVo was wireless?

I was hoping to be able to record 2 programs and watch a 3rd, but I now understand I can't do this unless I have a DVR service. OR attach a VCR to the system! I was hoping to get rid of my VCR's.

    Thanks

    Jane

First of all, this is totally off-topic for this thread.

To answer your question, though, you can enable 30-second skip on your Humax by following these instructions:

If you can and are willing to run an ethernet cable to the TiVo, do it in favor of wireless. Wireless is simply a convenient way for people who don't want to or can't run wires.

Your Humax can't record two programs at once, no matter what. But you can often hook it up so that you can at least watch live TV while the Humax is recording something.

They changed the wireless compatible list? Granted its been along time since I checked.

I thought I would be a good son and buy a Tivo2 for my parents for Christmas.
Checking the compatible list I notice only the Linksys WUSB12 is listed. I've could have sworn the WUSB11 was there, as I have 2 of them, and got one for my sisters Tivo as well.

Since I'm shopping online for these adapters...

[rant on] Why oh why can't Tivo update the boxes with updated USB drivers, as you can't find ANY of these adapters in a B&M store!! Wireless USB is mature enough now, even for Unix, for this problem to still be around. [/rant off]

Should I try to get an WUSB11 or try another adapter? I liked that the WUSB11 was connected to a cable so you could move it from behind to Tivo for better reception.

You need to click on the link below the recommended list for the complete list, which includes several revisions of the WUSB11.

I'm planning on setting up tivo to go with a netgear wireless router mr814v2, and a netgear usb 2.0 wg111 adapter as suggested by tivo. I was about to download the tivo desktop and saw that tiger 10.4 was not compatable. Does that mean I can't use the home network feature. That would bum me out. I have two series 2 boxes. Thanks

I have a working network adapter. When I use the phone line and TIVO site Online Scheduling I have no problems. When I use the approved network adapter, the TIVO is happy but when I use TIVO site online scheduling I get this message. Oops! We are unable to determine your channel lineup for this DVR. Make sure you have completed Guided Setup. Please choose another DVR or call Customer Support at 1-877-367-8486.
When I call TIVO support they say that since I upgraded my TIVO that's the problem. But it isn't since the phone line works fine.
Any suggestions on get TIVO site online scheduling working while using the network adapter?

This may have already been mentioned.

I had some trouble getting the Tivo box to hook up to my wireless network (D-Link dl-624, netgear wg111) and inadvertantly fixed the problem by plugging the wireless adaptor into my desktop computer, configuring the adapter with the desktop (including inputting the WEP key) and then plugging the adaptor into the Tivo. Prior to using the desktop, I tried to configure the adaptor using the tivo box and it just would not connect.

I'll have to try that. My DWL-122, which is on the approved list, works fine as long as I have no security on, but when I use WEP then it can't find a DHCP server.

Just got a second TiVo for xmas. Can't find a suitable USB adapter in the stores. I printed the list, and went to Fry's, Best Buy. Circuit City and MicroCenter and I could only find ONE [an SMC 2862W-G] on the list for sale. It did not work - not recognized, even thought reported as "Tested and Certified by TiVo." Couldn't find a ver# on it or the box.

None of the stores had older 802.11b units and they make up more than half the list. Most of the dozens that I looked at are later models [802.11g] or brands like AirLink, US Robotics, Hawking that are not represented at all. I bought 3 of these and took them home and tried them on my original 240 running 7.2.1 - none were recognized.

TIVO, YOU NEED TO TEST AND CERTIFY THE AVAILABLE UNITS!

I'll hate it but I may have to order the adapter from Tivo for $50 [more than the cost of the TiVo] and wait for it to arrive.. Why does it have to be so hard? Why can't Tivo qualify more current USB adapters? I paid $100 for HMO only to see it offered free, and now this. And I'm a Mac user with no TTG support. I'm really pissed.

I had the same problem when I started looking for a wireless adapter. Out of desperation I took all of the NetGear stock off the shelf at CompUSA and found 2 "802.11G" units that support Tivo burried in the back.

None of the stores seem to seperate the adapters that work with Tivo from those that won't - so don't be afraid to dig.

Yeah whats up with Tivo not supporting any of the wireless units on the stores shelf today? If they are just forcing people to buy the the Tivo branded unit that would SUCK. Shame on them..... I have been to 6 major stores and not a single unit on the list from any vendor. It can't be rocket science to create a driver that would allow the current version of these adapters to function. Get on it Tivo!

I have to say that I am pretty peeved to hear of these difficulties. I have just started looking at the certified adapters as I have no phone or wired ethernet near the TiVo location and reading up on this does not make me too happy. My TiVo experience has definitely started out on the wrong foot.

Slightly good news. I visited another Best Buy, and they did have the D-Link "G" adapter on the shelf. It even has a little Tivo symbol on it. Still, all that driving around was a major pain. For others, start at Best Buy, and then I would suggest Craigs List and Ebay.

I've read that people seem to have a lot of problems getting wireless adapters to work on Tivo. And I must say that I too went through the fruitless hunt for a compatible adapter at all of the local stores, to no availe.

I finally bought a Netgear WG111NA on Ebay. I plugged it into my Series2 and worked like a charm. The unit recognized the adapter, got a new "message" that network adapter was found and asked if I wanted to setup network. It saw my network (after I re-enabled SSID broadcast), I put in my WEP key and worked great.

I have since bought a 2nd tivo and am waiting on the 2nd WG111NA that I bought on ebay!

I have successfully connected my new TiVo to my wireless network, however, it still only updates once a day. I programmed a show to record on-line with 2 hours to go, but the TiVo did not get the request in time. I tried calling Customer Support but gave up when I found out I would be on hold for 30 minutes. Can anyone help me?

    hey everyone,
i just got the tivo series2 and i'm really impressed.
i'm trying to hook it up to my linksys wireless-G.
it says to connect the tivo's usb port to my router's usb port. but mine doesn't have one.
is there some way to bypass this so i can get my music/pictures on there?
what else is the router connection good for?

    thanks so much!!!
