I am planning to drop off my 2 unused cable boxes and 2 x S3 cable cards back to Comcast today.

Can I perform a clear/restore on the S3 unit without the cable cards installed?

    Never heard of "clear/restore".

You can always do a "clear and delete everything". This does restore any Tivo to the "out of the box" state.

I believe you may just need to do a "Repeat Guided Setup". This would save any recordings made.

Yep, this is what I was thinking of. Need cable cards to do this? Never tried.

Nope, don't need the cable cards.

As stated above, unless you want to erase all your recordings and settings, you only need to redo guided setup if you want to keep using your Tivo.
