I just replaced the hard disk on my Tivo due to a disk failure. It would be nice to have all my season pass, channel preferences, Netflix & Amazon logins, etc information backup up somewhere like Tivo.com or anywhere else they deem appropriate. It would have saved me quite a few hours worth of work.

If you have more than one TiVo another way is to transfer them to another box and then transfer them back after the new hard drive is in.

Wow, I had no clue this functionality was available! I manually recreated the SPs I could remember moving from S3 to my new XL4,
but missed several identified by Season Pass Manager. Outstanding!

Big thanks TiVo, and bshrock for the link!

I have been saying that for many years and asking TiVo for that on every survey. As you can see, nothing has been done. Every TiVo is going to fail... it is just a matter of time. My first Premiere died at 90 days, for example. In the past, I have had two other, older model TiVoes fail.

Nothing is more annoying than having to spend HOURS going back through every channel setting and other setting. And then you are left with a TiVo that has lost all your ratings. Certainly they could use the "cloud" for backup, and if not, why not store the settings on a local SD card?

It is a good feature, but it is totally inadequate. (This can also be done locally with kmttg)

    1) This feature still doesn't backup any settings, channels, or ratings.
    2) You can only use it if your box still works.
    3) You have to remember to do it regularly, or none of your changes will be stored.
    4) It cannot be initiated from the TiVo, itself.
    5) Last time I checked, it would not restore season passes for things that did not have any current airings (this could be wrong or changed)

Unfortunately this will not work. Tried and it did not work.
It would be nice to have Tivo add the option of back up.
It would be such a small thing really. Even if it would only allow us to back up to our own computers and re upload if it was a concerne of space on the servers.

I can't imagine space would be an issue. I would estimate that the average set of full settings probably consumes no more than several hundred kilobytes.

It works for shows that have no current airings. When I used the online SP manager for my second ELite, I had several SPs that had no shows coming on anytime soon but the SPs still transferred to it.

This really makes it a good feature since if you have to recreate the SP manually, you can't do it for shows without an airing over teh next couple of weeks. You would have to create a wishlist instead.

Yes and it only works if you are transfering to another Tivo from a working Tivo. Most of us are only a one TIvo Family.

Yes the online season pass manager seems like it's mainly for multiple TiVo use. At least that is what I've mostly used it with.

I would guess that probably much more 75% of TiVo customers have only one TiVo.

Wow! That is a very high percentage of one TiVo users. I've always had at least three TiVos and all the people I know with TiVos have at least two.

Well, it is just a guess. BTW- all the TiVo users I personally know (including myself) have only one...

I would agree with you there. Due to the service cost. Mind you I wonder if Tivo could say bundle the service for example charging a flate rate for up to 3 tivo per houshold this would be reasonable I think. Who knows, the bottom line is they have to make a profitable business.
