    New guy here... i have a very old hughes version directv tivo unit. i want to replace it with a only old philips dvr 7000. before i jump into the replace/contact provider mode, is there any way to bench test the unit i have to confirm it works?

    You might want to ask in the DirecTiVo forum


    where it might catch more sat TiVo users eyes.

    And a more specific and descriptive title wouldn't hurt.

    Hook it up to your TV and power it up. Connect it to your satellite dish and pop in an access card if you have one handy. You won't be able to watch live TV or do any recording but you should be able to click through the menus and possibly watch one of the barker channels.
