Do you spell the plural of TiVo as:
Inquiry minds what to know!
As a guy who frequently blogs about TiVo, this is something I wrestle with. TiVo's looks better, but I feel like TiVos is correct. So I usually just avoid the issue by writing "TiVo units" or *boxes, *DVRs, etc.
To your eyes, perhaps., but I don't think it's customary usage to pluralize with an apostrophe.
I'm with Phox on this one, only with a slight spelling change:
TiVos is plural, TiVo's is possessive. But I'll often use 'TiVo boxes' or 'TiVo units' or something that sounds better.
the TiVo inc. take on this is that it is actually a TiVo branded DVR. To be completely correct you should say TiVo DVRs or TiVo boxes, etc.. TiVo, inc. wants to be the adjective not the noun or verb
Intended formality of "DVR" behind the word "TiVo" notwithstanding, I'm going to go with TiVos for the plural form.
Everywhere I look these days I see apostrophes inappropriately used to make something plural.
I believe it is correct to say "1990s" instead of "1990's" even though the latter often seems to look right. Aren't acronyms also supposed to be pluralized without an apostrophe, too? SUVs, ATMs, HMOs.
If only we could teach most people how to properly use its/it's, you're/your, and they're/their/there. Honorable mention: seen/saw. Whew.
Well, "TiVo's" is right out. Apostrophes signal contractions or possessives. Never plurals.
I would say TiVo Boxen.
Or in my case:
Another honorable mention that drives me nuts....
should/could have--- not should/could of
you could of left this post out of the thread
Well I checked in with a TiVo PR contact to see if their style guide covers this... Neither TiVo's (obviously) or TiVos is correct. It's just and always "TiVo." So there you have it. I'll continue appending box, boxes, units, DVRs, etc for plural.
When did TiVo figure out how to articulate something?
I have 7 TiVo.
Um, let me check the style guide and reiterate. "My TiVo, Inc. PR contact"
