There's a unit I have available to me for under $200 sans remote, but I have a Pronto remote control, and there appear to be DVR-810H configuration files available for it.

Can anyone tell me some of the details about this unit:

    Is $200 a good price?

Is the "free" TiVo service functional? (I am a ReplayTV owner, so I know something about DVR's). It uses broadband to "call in"?

How well does it burn DVD's (I am looking for a DVD burner to replace a dying sVHS recorder)? Does it burn dual layer or single? I mostly want to burn shows for my daughter who lives across the country. Does it handle editing/chapter menus well?

From other threads, it is hard-drive upgradable?

    Thanks,

    Joe

    $200 is a good price.
Basic service is OK. Guide info only 3 days in advance or so, compared w/ 2wks for full svc.
This makes a difference when setting up "season passes" for programs.
Can use broadband to call in. Needs a land line for initial setup though. ( Some workarounds for this may be available- need to search this site).
Burns in single layer w/ minimal fuss but no editing from unit. (chapters?) Sets up Tivo menus for DVDs which are fine.
    HD definitely upgradable.
Overall: simple convienient device. But for serious archivers/PQ enthusiasts may be dissappointing.
