That's not true. The first paragraph of the article is - I quote:
"Complaints of the problem first surfaced in early December, but DirecTV spokesman Robert Mercer said Friday he didn't know the exact cause of the glitch. The company "is aware of the problem and should have it fixed by this evening," Mercer said. "

The complete article is linked below. Robert Mercer had nothing further to say in that article.

One poster was told by some other DTV person that this Friday fix was temporary until a permanent solution can be developed and that is being repeated as fact. But, it's hard to know how credible this is given how much bad info DTV provided all of us during this fiasco. I believe that is probably true, but, I am just speculating.

This morning my To Do History was showing some shows not scheduled to record on one of my DVRs, when they were there yesterday. I recommend everyone do one more restart to force an indexing... Per my System Info page, the date of my last indexing was Friday, when it should have showed a more recent date/time. I restarted all of my DVRs just to play it safe ... everything looks current again.

The article is incomplete ... as you should trust the other poster (Earl), who has inside contacts at DirecTV. A fix was put in place Friday/Saturday, but it is only a partial fix. What they did was temporarily change the data stream back to what it was in early December, but they want to use the new stream again, which requires TiVo to send software updates to make sure the new stream can be processed.

Everything was fine last week, and even last night, but at 3 am this morning my Tivo did a service download, and now has lost almost all the guide data again...

I noticed this afternoon that the "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" had no scheduled episodes on my SP and thought the problem was back. Upon closer examination it appears they changed the show name to "NBC Nightly News" and now my new season pass picks up the show for all 7 days per week. Could NBC be smart enough to rename the show so that weekday and weekend versions will be captured by one SP? It would be nice to think that TiVo is getting some respect from the folks who title/describe shows!

Well, it happened again. Desperate Housewives was scheduled to record yesterday, but when I looked at the TiVo at 8:15 my friendly red light was NOT on.

I just got off the phone with a second tier person who told me blah blah blah* to which I told her that blah blah blah did NOT work. I asked to speak to someone else and she said they would tell me the same thing. I then asked to speak to her supervisor. When the supervisor came on the line, I told him that the "blah blah blah" that she was using as a resolution was not a resolution at all and I had a problem with her arguing with me. I also asked him if all the customer service reps really didn't like each other and never spoke to one another. He assured me that they did and they were searching for a resolution and he apologized for the answers I received from the previous representative.

He did mention that I will have to have my phone plugged in when the fix does occur because that is how it tells the update to happen.

    * blah1 = reboot your system (my system is rebooting on its own and causing this problem, so I don't find that to be a "fix")

blah2 = delete and replace your season passes (if my program data is missing, this is impossible to do... thus not a "fix")

blah3 = do the 5-6 hour reboot process (to me this sounds like, "get off my back and leave us alone for a day or two" which is not a "fix" at all)

did you try these steps hopping on one leg? If not they recommend you go back and do it that way before calling for support again

Heh! I'm a couch potato... that would be more exercise than I get in a year.

Won't happen! However, they could send a hot tech out to do that for me if they wish.

Well, don't get your hopes up. Mine worked fine for 9 days and then starting acting up again tonight.

Just realized Grease was not recording tonight (apparently a major loss to my wife) and saw the "Someone in your household..." Tivo lying to me messages. I hate it when Tivo lies :)

Called DTV, never heard of it. Suggested reboot otherwise no help.

Also have been noticing several random unexplained hard reboots over the last few weeks... and more curiously a really old recorded folder suddenly changed names (from Equestrian to 76ers vs. Somebody) and then back again after a couple of days.

    Anyone heard _anything_ recently?

I have a series 1 dsr6000 that exhibits this same problem. Is directv going to send a software update for that unit? I think not. The bottom line is that they can't use the new data stream unless they find a way to do it without affecting all of these older receivers that they are not going to update.

I received another phone call tonight from a different customer rep.
He said that they were aware of the problem, they were actively working to fix it with Tivo. They were having a really hard time trying to fix it with Tivo. The only thing that I could do was to carry on rebooting the system when the 'to do' list unpopulated itself and for really important problems I should do a manual record to detour the season pass problem.
He was very nice, he did not treat me like a total idiot, he did not shout angrily at me..
He also apologized profusely regarding the horrible Betty woman whom phone me the other night. He stated that there was no way she should have shouted at me like that and that she has been reprimanded for doing so.
To show good faith he gave me $5 off my account for the next 6 months.

The money credit on my account was only a bonus. The money didnt really come into it that much. It was more the apology on behalf of the Betty person and the fact that everything he said tied in with what I already knew after reading this forum.
The Betty woman said I should not read forums and nobody on here knew what they were talking about.

The apology and the acceptance of the problem went a long way in mollifying my state of mind concerning Directv.

I will take precautionary measures as far as my season passes are concerned and sit patiently awaited the promised fix......sometime.

Well, for what it's worth, add me to this problem. I have an unhacked RCA DVR40. I just tried to force a phone call but couldn't because the box is "processing" its last download from 7:30 p.m. Sunday. I'll try again later in the morning, if I can. Meanwhile, I am starting to set manual records for the most important SPs. Grrrrrrrr.

You'll have to do a re-boot before you can force the phone call if you get that message.

Well, well, well. Nine hours later, I awoke wide-eyed and bushy-tailed and ran downstairs to check on things. No reboot and no forced call necessary. My SPs now see upcoming shows again, my "to do" list is fleshed out and I can even search by title again.

I have software version 6.2. Last service data download was on 1/12 at 3:05 a.m., next attempt 1/15 at 4:59 a.m., last GC on 1/15 at 4:46 a.m., last indexing on 1/15 at 7:36 a.m.

Not very optimistic that this is a fix but I will keep my fingers crossed.

    Not good....
My logs appear normal... after Friday night.

I have only had a few problems of "someone modified...."

Now HIMYM came up that it was not going to record in the to-do list, yet when I went to season pass it showed the double check mark like it was going to record.
Just had to go into the to-do list and tell it to record. and now it is in the list with a single check mark
So I would say it is STILL somewhat hosed up

I have had problems lately with my Philips DSR6000. I spoke to DirecTV and they advised me that they were aware of the problem and they expected a software update would be available soon. This conversation occurred approx. 2-weeks ago. The problems, too numerous to mention continued and I found the only temporary fix was to re-boot. I am pleased to report that I just checked my unit & found that a service data download occurred last night. The software version I have is 3.5-01-1-001 and while it is the same as before everything appears to be normal now, so I'm hoping the problem is solved. Incidently the DirecTV rep I spoke too couldn't have been nicer.
