So my kids and I were having a conversation about Modern Family the other day. They sometime watch with me, but haven't in a while.

The Phil/Claire story line was something I went through last year when I bought my 2 seat convertible. (While I did buy it without my wife, I did drive her to the dealership the night before I got it and showed her the car I was going to get)

Anyway, I was talking about the show and Claire's reactions and my son told me Claire has to act that way - it's part of the script. She's not real.

    I was crushed.

    :(

I really hope he's wrong. I hope there are women like Claire out there somewhere.

I'm surprised by all the Claire love. With the exception of this episode I have found her to be nothing more than a shrill harpy this season. Cam has been poorly written this year too.

I'm reading this thread and honestly cannot believe all the Claire love. It's almost as if I'm reading first time viewer comments. If this had been the first time I'd seen the show, I could understand and agree but holy hell that woman is a disaster of a mess on pretty much every other episode. She's bitchy and bossy and oh so neurotic. Add in the fact that I want to hand her a sammich every time I see her and yeah... baffled.

I really like Claire. She and Phil remind me of my wife and me. They are just extreme caricatures, but same basic relationship.

It's funny, because Claire is very much like my wife. I love my wife to death, but the Claire character is my least favorite on the show.

I wonder if that was really Ty Burrell doing back handsprings at the end. I know the Phil character was a college cheerleader, but I'd be interested to know if Ty can actually do that.

I've watched every episode of the show.

She'd still be a huge improvement. Bitchy and bossy, but always supportive.

That was a callback to a recent previous episode where they were talking about her poor English.

Exactly. She couldn't remember the word, so she just made the sound and the actions. I'm fairly certain that the writers saw this, thought it was hilarious, and intentionally wrote a helicopter into this episode so she could have reason to do it again.

Also, the actors probably wouldn't even be allowed to do it, even if they had the skill. It would be considered a 'stunt' and both the cast insurance and producers very likely wouldn't allow it. A cast injury would slow down or stop production.

I have to agree. He's become a tool and he never used to be. He used to be a kid who was smart and wise beyond his years but still was very boy like and had the same anxieties around girls as most boys would at his age. Now? They've made him seem more like one of those entitled 20 somethings who expects everything to come his way, even though he's supposed to be what 12? He's not as endearing.

I have to agree, Phil and Luke are my favs. I also like the younger Dunphy sister a lot.

This was hilarious! And done somewhat quietly so you might have missed it if you weren't paying attention.
