I loved how they jumped forward at the end. The segue between last season and this season was executed wonderfully. It was genius. That episode will probably get them an emmy nomination, it was done so well.

At the beginning of the show, there's a logo that pops in that says "AD", along with a sound effect that covers up the dialog. Does anyone else find that utterly frustrating!? What is that for? I've seen it on other shows, and I imagine it's something with the digital HD format, but don't know exactl what it stands for.

Adam Carolla was complaining about that on his podcast from Tuesday of this week. He saw it on a rerun of Modern Family from a couple of weeks ago. It was the episode where Haley was trying to fill out a college application and was trying to answer the question about the hardest thing she'd had to overcome. She said, "Didn't a counselor once say that I had 'AD?'" and it popped up right at the same time. That drove Carolla crazy, because the graphic seemed to ruin the joke and he went around at all the Emmy after parties asking the show's creator and cast about it, and none of them had any idea what he was talking about.

Anyway, bottom line, it stands for "Audio Descriptions" and it's something new ABC is testing for the visually impaired. I assume is analogous to Closed Captioning for the hearing impaired.

I've seen it on several shows and it is extremely annoying. It is very loud and drowns out the dialog.

I consistently laugh the most at Phil fawning over Gloria. Kills me everytime. :)

and the way they did it in seemingly one single shot.. That was confusing for an almost infinitesimal amount of time, then seemed brilliant.

I agree. I really enjoyed its return and the time skip was welcome.

Interesting. Perhaps it could describe the audio that it makes you miss.

I'd love to hear the description of the animals on top of the car.

Definitely some good parts, although I wasn't hysterical laughing like I usually am... Am I the only one grossed out by the idea of Jay and Gloria conceiving a child though? lol... I think the show is ignoring a huge piece of reality with that relationship... It absolutely happens, and the comedy that comes out of it is pretty authentic, but it's usually a "marriage of convenience"--older guy w/ money, hot woman who needs some stability, etc. I'm not saying it's IMPOSSIBLE, but when people like Gloria marry someone like Jay, it's for reasons other than genuine, authentic love (not to say there aren't feelings, but not as deep as to bear kids, etc).

I don't know, maybe I just want to thing about Al Bundy getting to do it with Gloria. It seems cosmically wrong. I did like the way they wrote Jay's reaction though... I was confused for a second after the time-jump because it looked like Gloria was at four or five months, but yet Manny was reading a poem he wrote at poetry camp (was he there for five months?) and Cam/Mitchell had just gotten back from two weeks in London (did they not go for five months?) ANyway I figured it out but for a minute I wasn't sure how much time had passed.

Julie Bowen's delivery on that was awesome... think it was something like "How does that cure your hangover?" and she was just like "...it doesn't..." LOL.

Hahaha, Cam's whisper delivery of, "I don't know, that's what makes it so weird" when Mitch asks who Larry is was great. Subtle things like that go a long way.

I think if there was a weak link on the show, I'd say it was Manny. The novelty of that character has worn off for me and he's quickly becoming someone who's scenes I want to FF through. The only thing saving him is the fact that Luke messing with him is usually hilarious--they remind me of Brian and Stewie. But aside from that, Manny can go to Poetry Boarding School.

Regardless of what might "usually" happen, I think they've made it pretty clear in the show that Jay and Gloria are truly in love.

In my experience, you are totally wrong. We have had two sets of friends where the husband was 20-30 years older than the wife, and in both cases the wife was a doctor. Both couples had kids.
