I'm recording this. Sounds like it will be a "blast from the past" so to speak. Film noir is always interesting.

I saw that review. I usually don't read reviews for whether the "critic" is saying it's good, but rather if their description of the show tells me it's something I'll like. In this case, I think it will be.

I'm rather looking forward to this one. IIRC, it's just a 6-episode miniseries, or something like that. I probably wouldn't normally tune into a mob-type program (NTTAWWT), but I'm tuning in because of the actors.

I thought the pilot was excellent. A definite season pass. The film company must have rented every 1940's car in California.

We watched last night. It was actually back-to-back episodes. I'm on the fence so I'll watch the next few. But the film noir music makes it feel sooo clich├ęd.

I do like the intros of the young gangsters. But Ed Burns as Bugsy is not doing it for me.

We turned it off after the first hour. The dialog was just putting us to sleep.
Maybe I made a mistake but it just felt like it yelling hey I look like Boardwalk/Mad Men/...

Perhaps the disconnect in the opening scene and the subsequent scenes were too much.

I thought it was very good. My only problem is remembering who the bad guys are other than Mickey Cohen. The music was great. A Night In Tunisia and You Don't Know What Love Is. Those are some great songs.

Who was the lady in Teague's picture that he burned?
    Jasmine Fontaine?

I thought it was just a 3 week mini-series type deal.

However I noticed a gaffe in the 2nd hour, when they showed the shot of the Pacific Electric car and panned up it had a modern day pantograph, in the 40's it would have had a standard single pole (yes, I'm weird that I know this, but damn I know my noir)

Dead right on the spoiler, that's who the picture was of, and in retrospect their conversations in the show still fit knowing that.

It was filmed as 6 individual episodes, but TNT is running it as 3 2hr blocks, I'm ok with that :)

I liked it. I thought it was true to film noir, and the twists were fun. Not predictable but not out of left field either. Very well done and I'm in for the duration.

I know that the plan for this was a mini-series, but I'm already hearing rumblings that if the ratings warrant it, they'll do a series. When I hear stuff like that, the writers always ruin the story by making an ending that makes no sense, or change things around in order to allow for another season. I'm hoping that this is self contained and if they decide to bring back a part two, it's completely self contained as well.

Well, this one is in the can, so if they decide to go to series, they'll have to go from the existing conclusion of the miniseries. There's no changing the ending to open it up at this point.

Yeah. What models are those? I dig that they look like the cars in cartoons and what Superman #1 was lifting. The long body with streamlines fenders?

I watched it on VoD and set a SP?

"No. Ya got me all wrong!"
    "Am I in the clear?"

I'll leave to the car experts to identify the exact models. Here's a series of photos of many of the cars on location:

It's very close, but not exact, to a 1941 Pontiac Streamliner Torpedo Eight.

Don't think so. What I'm intrigued by are the sweeping front fenders. Those have squared off front fenders.

I know a Cord has those, but a Cord was a very rare and expensive car.
