I have a 6 tuner roamio that i use for all my recording. I have an xl4 that i use in the kitchen until i decide if i want to sell it or not. Can i put a mini in the bedroom and use one of the tuners from the xl4 and if so will i still be able to watch stuff recorded on the roamio? I'd rather not tie up one of the roamio tuners as i don't record anything in kitchen now and don't need 4 tuners.

A better option would be to sell the XL4 for the $400+ that you will get for it, and put that money towards TWO Minis with lifetime.

Mini is so fast it puts the XL4 to shame.

Bought one mini and not impressed with channel changing speeds. I was going to sell the xl4 but decided against it as this way if something happens to the roamio I am not with out TV. Have had no trouble with the xl4 since i bought it and that influenced my decision to do the whole house thing with them. Setting this up has been a nightmare so far.

Well then....to answer your earlier question, yes, you can put a Mini in the bedroom and point it to EITHER the XL4 or the Roamio and it will have the ability to tune live TV as well as stream recordings from either of the two main TiVos.

Personally I did not observe the channel changing speed of the Mini to be that big of a deal, but then again I usually use the guide to pick a channel if I'm watching live TV rather than clicking the channel up/down buttons.

The Mini channel changing speed is noticeably slower than channel changing on the Roamio. But whether the mini was linked to my Roamio or my Elite, I did not see any speed difference in changing channels
