kind of excited for this tonight

Graham Elliot has lost a lot of weight

but from the trailer here it looks like they might be going for more drama this season

hopefully it's just a few scenes
what I like about MasterChef is that its not Hells Kitchen
it focuses more on the cooking and less on the "reality" / contestant squabbles

No selection show? Do not like this format at all.

Who is that man named Graham Ellliot!

I was shocked to see Graham lose all that weight. That was awesome.

I hated we didn't see the standard selection show. That was always one of my favorite parts of MC.

And people, remember to salt your food!

I think the point they were making was to "TASTE" the food all through the process to see if it needs salt or anything else.

I hate the selection shows in all shows - this one is no exception.

I was quite happy to see they skipped it.

    Graham looks good.

I forgot this was starting up. I'm still behind three Hell's kitchen shows. I'll need to watch this MC episode later this week.

I was also stunned to see Graham's weight loss. I wonder if he had surgery because they're not mentioning it at all - kinda like Randy Jackson.

22 finalists and it's 'shocking' that next week's a double elimination? Don't think so.

As for the selection rounds, I guess Fox wanted less episodes so they changed the format. It's still nothing like the original British show which, if you haven't seen, you should if you can. The latest season has just finished. ;)

It's still about the drama much more than the cooking, which is a shame, but it does succeed in being probably the best of its kind on mainstream TV.

I couldn't believe they kept the lady that threw her waste all over the floor. That is pretty unacceptable and I can't believe she would cook like that at home.

but she thought they had people to clean up after her.

I thought she was a goner as well.

I'd have tossed her on the spot.
Both for being a pig and cooking with her hair down loose.
In fact I would eliminate anyone who didn't tie their hair back first thing, and that includes hair obscuring their eyes to the point of having to toss it back every other second.
I understand wanting to look nice on TV but this is a deal breaker for me.

Asian guy was hilarious. Came in cocky and bragging, then got thrown out right away.

I thought messy girl was gone, too. I am also hoping to see drama queen Malibu guy gone soon.

I thought the new format was ok, but I did enjoy the one at a time tryouts they've done up to now. At least they started with 30 with the expectation that a bunch of them were going to be cut right out of the gate.

Yeah, you can always tell when somebody who is really cocky (i.e. Asian guy) that they will be one of the first ones to go. See ya - wouldn't wanna be ya. :D

Anybody going on the MasterChef cruise they advertised in the beginning? ha! :D

Was it fair to give him the boot for not salting before he was even done cooking, though?

They either didn't like him for some reason, or he was a plant.

ah ... so there was no selection show.

Seeing Joe B. spit food into a trash can is always amusing :)

He actually used to be quite tubby as well. Find some old clips of him on his mother's PBS show and you'll see.

I thought I didn't like the selection shows, but I found that I missed it.

I, too, would have given messy trash girl the boot. What's worse, not salting before the dish was complete or throwing garbage all over the place? I know she got an apron, but her food must have been SPOT ON to keep her.

That guy with the crazy outfit who was doing the gastronomy stuff? Owen says "Why is he wearing his pajamas?" :)
