Is there anyway to limit season passes to certain seasons with syndicated shows? For example, my local CW airs Modern Family twice a day. The 6:30 slot is currently the first season, while the 7:30 slot is currently the fourth season. I don't want the fourth season/7:30 airings, but I also DETEST manual timers for a few reasons. Is there anyway to automatically make the Tivo only record the season 1 airing (And season 2, 3, etc when it naturally gets to those) without it recording the other airings, and without me having to manually go in and telling it to not record the airings I don't want?

No, it's not built as a highly customized software program that allows for complicated things like that. It's built as a mass market machine. You'll just have to manually manage your to do list to delete out the unwanted recordings.

If you "detest" the only real way to do it and don't want to manually manage the TDL, then no.

I would think you could set up a wishlist to do this with the right parameters.

That would be tricky. Unlike the old Daily Show problem there isn't a clear consistent difference in guide data between the reruns he wants and the reruns he doesn't. (The Tupper method of using wishlists to avoid Daily Show repeats relied on the fact that all the repeats had the same generic description). Another trick is if a show changed cast (and the guide data reliably reflects it) then by either including, or excluding, the relevant cast member you can limit matches to after, or before, they joined the show.

unfortunately the best pieces of guide data, the season number and the original air date, aren't accessible to wishlists. (Well the "movie year" field in part of keyword searched; but it only exists for movies. So you can search for all movies released in 1990, but not episodes of a show that aired in 2004)

Now you could go through the episode list for Modern Family and create a separate wishlist for each and every episode of the season you're interested in. But that's a painful tedious workaround.
