Thanks! Very informative. It removed any lingering doubts that I had about sticking to my guns and refusing to buy the 1st generation Premiere. If the next-gen Premiere offers features like those I'm currently getting with my DISH 722 ViP/Slingbox, and finally takes the plunge into video over IP as a bona fide and equal delivery path, there may be hope for them yet. OTOH if they become nothing more than an OEM for cable and telco monopolies...again I'll be glad I didn't throw good money after bad.

It'll be interesting to see how this shakes out.

As an aside, every time I see those promos for SB&C's U-verse (the ones with all the expensive CGI effects), I think:

    1. Cool! I want to be able to do that!
    2. Hold it, I don't have a TV in every room, and don't want a TV in every room.
    3. How much do all those STBs cost to rent, anyway?
    4. Cripes, this isn't FiOS; this is IPTV over DSL! Something seems off...
    5. Can't stop watching even while getting pizza delivered? Seems like addictive behavior.
    6. Hey, I can use my front door to go out and spend time with my neighbors, friends and family!

I think much of what is being talked about is this. (Link is Engadget.) I just ordered my Premiere with Lifetime so without sounding selfish I hope they hold out a year or two before upgrading the device. :p

The Elite just came out with the same basic hardware and is an S4 series design.

Any S5 model isn't even on the horizon.... That is what's nice about this streaming transcoder being designed as a stand alone device.

But when Jason talks about Zapper boxes, I think he is more referencing the Preview - he also talks about it being "with and without" a tuner.

He also talked about stand alone apps built using the new SDK. The question is, what will be available retail vs MSO.

Typical TiVo. Big on talk low on results. We will have warp drive before we have anything TiVo promises.

OK, I give. What's a Tivo Network Transcoder? I googled it and could only find the reference on engadget but it has no description of what it is.

It was demoed at CES this year and is still considered a prototype - but I love the idea and hope it comes to the market quickly... As mature as the app and product appear - it seems they have already expended a lot of effort.

Is that really necessary? Do I come into your threads and troll?

I thought that his comment was OK. TiVo has under-delivered for years. I certainly don't trust them to deliver anything in the future. In fact I didn't watch the video because I'm sure they're blowing smoke, I don't believe a word they're saying. Fool me once, ...
