Is there at all a way to download a portion of a show specifically?

    Hey all...

So, using kmttg, is there at all a way to download a portion of a show only?

For example, say I have an episode of "Dallas" recorded but I only want to download the opening title sequence? I know you can click PAUSE on your TiVo and kmttg will start the recording from there but it will continue until the end of the recording. Any way to stop it earlier or is this a feature you just can't do?

If you have multiple TiVos and the recording isn't copy-protected, start transferring the show to the second TiVo and then stop it when the portion you want to save is transferred. Then you can use kmttg or your tool of choice to download that partial recording.

No, unfortunately, I just have the one premiere.
I understand with kmttg, I can pause a recording and have the download start from that point but what sucks is not being able to stop it at the point you want.

You basically have to click "cancel" when you "think" it has covered enough of the download as you wish. I wish it was in real time, as in 30 seconds of kmttg downloading = 30 seconds of the actual recording but it doesn't work that way.

I tried. I started a recording from a paused point and let it record for 30 seconds but it took 2 whole minutes of the program, not 30 seconds.

You don't really wish that ... at least, I prefer faster-than-realtime downloads. ;)

My only other suggestion would be to just edit the file (with something like Video ReDo) once its downloaded to trim out the portion you want.

I see your point regarding the faster-than-realtime downloading being a more preferable thing for most people.

And thank you for the idea about Video ReDo. I didn't think of that initially and though it would take some time, that would help achieve the end goal. :)

I prefer the two-Tivo method if available, but anytime I want a partial file I use pyTivo (shows the filesize and length of all the files on the Tivo) and monitor the progress of the download by periodically refreshing the file in explorer (actually, I use xplorer2). When the filesize is the proportion of the full length file I wish to get, I use the Stop Transfer button in the pyTivo listing, whereupon the transfer is halted and the file properly closed.
