Don't worry about that, then. Most of us started out with the Eccleston episodes (from 2005). Those episodes were written with the understanding that most viewers would not have seen the earlier episodes, anyway, so you'll have no trouble following what's going on.

And I agree, the show gets even better over the next few seasons.

I started with 2005 a month or so ago and I can't watch them fast enough! I just started S5 this morning... I am not a Matt Smith fan but I still love the show!

I have a certain soft spot for the Tom Baker years myself......although the 5th Doctor (whose name escapes me) was pretty good........

I must admit, I don't even have any idea of which generation the doctor is on now....

One thing you can say for the production values of the classic show -- it didn't overwhelm you with non-stop background music.

I watched a few of the movies. I never saw it anywhere on TV until it started on BBCA so that is when I started and I didn't really need to look up backstory or anything.

I can't wait for this years Christmas Special. We started with the 2005 reboot this year on Nexflix and caught up to the current season. Now we are going though withdrawls.

Both my boys, 10 and 13, dressed as the current Doctor for Halloween.

"A few of the movies?" There's only been one movie, which actually was an aborted pilot for a collaborative show for BBC (UK) and FOX (US).

One of them should have claimed the other was a Ganger.

Perhaps she saw some of the serials that were stitched together into singular super-length episodes.

One might consider the Year of Specials to be several movies, although they were only slightly longer than most regular episodes, and not any longer than a few regular episodes...

D'oh! I even own one of those movies on DVD and didn't even consider them.

By the way, those are not good places to start with Doctor Who. Seriously. Don't. :)

I have watched old movies (probably episodes stitched together) many years ago with a man in a frock coat and a hat. I watched or tried to watch (cable failed or VCR was not set correctly) a who called the 5 or 7 doctors. I didn't start watching it as a series until it was on BBCA.

It was on different days...so, we are good. I didn't want the space time continuum to rip a whole in the universe. duh. :)
