I got the feeling that they had already eaten it. :)

Oh, there had definitely been "sandwich" consumption in that flashback. But they're usually pretty explicit about it and show the "sandwich" in those scenes, so I wanted to see it.

I also forgot to mention all the newspapers they showed in the fantasy segments, with Al Gore, Howard Dean, and Dennis Kucinich being president in 2003, 2006, and 2009 respectively. I didn't notice if there was one in the 2012 fantasy segment.

It wasn't their greatest episode, but I was entertained. I liked looking at all the newspaper headlines in their flash-forwards. Ted is definitely a democrat! There was at least 1 flash-forward where I couldn't read the headline, it was always blocked by a character.

Yes, it said something like: "Country regrets giving Bush surprise 3rd term"

The Dean was something like "President Dean Calmly Addresses Nation"... basically making fun of the speech that derailed his campaign.

Ever week I like this show and every week I come into this thread and see people say it is the worst show ever.

That's what it was. I couldn't read the word that started with C but I knew it was a jab at "The Scream."

It hasn't been tremendous this season, but this one was fun.

It was also nice to have a concrete point not too far off in the future that we know he has a child.

Did they ever say that it was Ted's child? I know it was suggested, but for all we know it's Marshal's or Barnie's.

Well, Barnie was upset at Ted for bringing a girl, so it can't be his. And Marshal told Barnie to give Ted a break, not defending "his" girl. I know they didn't outright say it, but I think it's safe to assume it's Ted's.

Also, the whole story is told in 2030 with a girl who is about 15 years old; so it makes sense in every way.

When they said they hadn't studied for the Econ final and there was only one thing to do ... I thought they were going to pull out the big sandwiches.

I've deleted the episode so I can't go back to check, but I thought that in one of the earlier years of the flashback, there was a big honkin' sandwich on the desk or table while Ted and Marshall were talking.

There was, but not in the first one, in 2000.

Yes, the big "sandwich" was on the coffee table in the 2003 flash-forward fantasy sequence. I don't think there was a "sandwich" in the actual 2003 segment.

It was just "OK" for me. Definitely some good gags, including naked and then fully-clothed Barney and the newspapers.

In general, I'm not a fan of "flashback" episodes but for some reason they are don't usually bother me in HIMYM. Or LOST. ;)
