Does anyone have a definitive list of the neutered Tivo functionality in the new D*Tivo HD DVR as compared to standard Tivo HD DVR service w/ digital cable? The "info" page on the D* site (http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/content/technology/tivo_receiver) just compares the new D*Tivo HD DVR with the other D* DVRs (and in a way that makes their crappy DVRs seem better).

As someone who's been a D* customer FOR SIXTEEN YEARS and went through the FIRST D*/Tivo crap from D* (10-250), I stuck with D* because they announced they would again have a "partnership" with Tivo and offer a D*Tivo HD DVR - only to be SEVERLY disappointed with the neutered Tivo functionality D* is allowing on the new box (which I have to lease from D* AND pay an addition subscription fee for - WTF?).

I'm now VERY interested in switching to digital cable especially since I already have to pay the cable company for internet broadband separately anyway) and buying my own Tivo HD DVR and using it with a cable card.

If I can get the features I want AND lower my monthly bill you can guess which one I'll do!

But it's easy to describe in a nutshell ....
The THR22 is essentially an HD version of the HR10-250 DirecTivo, with the ability to support internet connection for CinemaPlus downloads. Unless DirecTV sells a bunch of these, it's unlikely that we'll see any of the newer Tivo features added.

Sorry, I should have been more clear...

I am not looking for a comparison of what the THR22 does and doesn't do compared to the DirecTV DVRs. I'm interested in knowing what the THR22 doesn't do that the current STANDALONE Tivo HD DVRs (series 3?) DO do (when connected via cable cardrd to a HD digital cable service). I haven't kept up with Tivo functionality since I've been using the DirecTV HD DVR (HR22-100) for the past few years.

In other words, if I switch from DirecTV to my cable provider and buy a standalone Tivo HD DVR what additional functionality do I get over the THR22/satellite setup (NetFlix?, hack-ability?, etc.?)

Just trying to figure out if I should switch to cable or pay the additional monthly subscription fee to stay with DirecTV and buy the THR22. If it helps, I only have 1 TV and 1 DVR (HR22-100 w/ the new UI) right now with the grandfathered "Total Choice" package plus the HD package and DVR service from DirecTV.

If you choose the Real TiVo Series3 THX certified and want one with Lifetime, PM me.

The DTV box with semi TiVo interface is not nearly the product the Series3 is.

The THR22 is essentially a Series 2 Tivo with the ability to receive/record DirecTV's HD MPEG4 channels, and internet connectivity to download their OnDemand stuff. It's nowhere near a Series3 Tivo in functionality.

If the THR22 is just a series 2 + DirecTV OnDemand downloads then I guess what I'm looking for is just a definitive listing of the series 3 functionality.

I'll check the Tivo site for that.

    Thanks all

It is in no way as capable as a Series 2 DirecTiVo with all the functionality available with software 6.2.a and a bit of linux work.

I didn't say anything about comparing with an "enhanced" Series 2 DirecTivo, now did I? And the OP didn't ask about that either.

It's really more like a Series 3 with most of the networking functionality disabled.
