wasn't there a lengthy discussion here a while back where the general consensus was at the time, Tom Tom maps weren't as up to date as those from Garmin and Magellan?

Showing my age, when he said his name was Thomas Thomas, my mind was thinking some play on the old Thomas Guide map books.

Yep-- this was my take on it as well, but the 'you have arrived at your destination' was clearly more modern than the street-level Thomas guides. I just figured Thomas Guide had a GPS product these days. But I'd have had a better laugh had I known TomTom was a GPS name.

    Gettin' old...

Thomas Guide isn't a particularly well-known brand name outside the western U.S., though (although I guess Rand McNally has expanded its reach a bit since they took over the company).

Wow... I used to have an LA and Orange County Thomas Guide in my cars. It's been a long time since I remember having one.

I don't think I've seen one on store shelves in almost 10 years. Now I really feel old. :(

True. I never heard of Thomas Guide.

I seem to recall seeing them recently at Barnes & Noble -- and you can get them at Amazon (for example, here's the 2013 Los Angeles/Orange County edition) -- but, yeah, I don't see much need to have one in my car now that we live in the GPS era.

I know, I know, famous last words.

I just picked up Series Seven, Part Two at a local FYE. I'd heard it would be available soon, but was surprised to see it in the rack before the last two episodes had aired.

I haven't watched yet to ensure I didn't slip and reveal any spoilers, but it does contain all 8 episodes, including "Nightmare in Silver" and "The Name of the Doctor." It also contains the "Bells of St. John" prequel and "Clarence and the Whispermen" ... no "Snowmen," though.

Anyway, I don't know if it actually is available, or if someone screwed up and put it out accidentally, but I thought I would pass on that it might be available somewhere if anyone wants to look for it before the series finale airs.

Definitely seems like someone screwed up -- Amazon has its release date listed as May 28.

    Probably.

In any case, "Nightmare in Silver," the Neil Gaiman episode, will be airing later tonight, and "The Name of the Doctor" will run next week, so there won't be that long a wait.
