Description and picture on recordings? Can you do it on pushed files?

I finally figured out how to push movies/shows to my tivo, now the next question on my list would be...When the tivo records something from cable...it has a little picture of the show and a short description about it when you highlight it...is there a way to do that for the shows and movies that I push to the tivo? Would that be metadata?

Yes, metadata. Not sure if you can add that with desktop, but you can certainly add it if using pytivo.

Description yes, picture no. A push, even via pyTivo, gets a very limited set of metadata sent to the TiVo.

There are a number of tools available to create metadata, more of which is sent on a "Pull" using pyTivo. What model TiVo do you (the OP) have?

For a Premiere, if you create the metadata file, at least for series shows, you will get the graphic if you pull the recording to the TiVo (using pyTivo), since that is acquired by a Premiere from the net based on the seriesId, which is one of the fields in the metadata.

So I should use pyTivo to do all my file pushing if I want metadata? Not edit it myself and push using Tivo Desktop?

TiVo Desktop doesn't recognize the text metadata file. And as I said before, very little of the metadata is transferred when you push, even if you use pyTiVo.

It's not that big of a deal..I usually only push the movies, watch them...and then delete them...rare that I keep them for more then a few days..Just was curious how to do it...
