When i dropped service on my series 2 when i upgraded to series 3, I was able to watch recorded shows for a while, and then couldnt. Didnt really investigate too deeeply at the time cause there wasnt much left on it of value.

I am now considering upgrading to a roamio from my series 3. So same question.

Will I be able to deactivate the series 3 and still watch the recoreded show ?

As long as the TiVo is working, you should be able to watch playback of any show you recorded on it, whether it's still subscribed or not.

What you might want to do is lean on TiVo to give you a lifetime sub on the S3 for $99 while you have the leverage of "going to buy a Roamio but haven't spent the money yet".

Then when you've watched everything on it, you can keep it for a different room or sell it for more than you would have gotten for an unsubscribed unit.
